I have to say, as soon as I saw the MX43's I knew the Vigilante was in trouble.. those tires/wheels have destroyed more diffs than the Colonel sold buckets of chicken!! LOL I mean, the Vigilante is a fine effort by Redcat, but it's still a Redcat, with chinesium gears, just like a TRX 8s..chewin em up and spitting them (gears) out.. great vidya though, loved it!!👍🍻

@@rcguygarage Me too! I'm not knocking Redcat or the Vigilante. I'd buy a Vigilante or 2 in a second if I had the scratch, but I'm weary of adding a big can or heavy tires to one. At least until/if someone puts out some machined steel gears for it.. heck, my Kaiju is 3+ years old now and still one of my favorite rc's!!🤘🍻

Correct me if I’m wrong but that truck slides around like a fireteam but has better air control. I think Redcat really delivered competition to Arrma and Traxxas considering the price point to. I want one!

@boduke9428
@boduke9428 7 ай бұрын
I have both and disagree. You gotta really try to roll the Fireteam. It's rock steady sliding. I think the Vigilante handles like my 8s Outcast exb with a Max 5 760kv when I run it on 6s. I have a set of the Outcast v2 tires to put on my Vigilante to see if they improve the handling. I think the Outcast is better because of that thick heavy chassis being so low to the ground. The Vigilante is definitely better than my Xmaxx handling wise. I'm gonna put a Max 5 and big can motor in it but seeing this makes me think it's better to wait until Vitavon or someone makes an aluminum center diff for it. If the Max 6 and little motor are doing this then way more power and geared to the moon definitely wouldn't be good. Somewhat off topic but I think the Fireteam is the best all around basher there is of any size. It does everything well and is even fairly powerful stock. Air control is pretty good once you move the battery tray back and ear plug the center diff. I've ran stock electronics with the speed pinion over a year and half without a single issue. I do plan to donate the Vigliante electronics to the Fireteam when I upgrade them.

From just watching, the Vigilante sure seems to handle exceptionally for it's size. My use is very similar to what you're doing here, ripping a track and just general shenanigans. For which I think the Vigilante is perfect for. Shame about the diff, though not suprising, those MX43'S will stress any rc's drivetrain. Besides costing as much as tires for my DD(Scion xB), they're just too heavy for me to bother with. Nice vid brother!!👍🍻

I've always been under the impression that the looser the diff oil the hotter it gets, so maybe running just ear plugs without oil will solve the heat issue, I was just reading a write up on a rc forum dedicated to differential tuning and the concensus is lighter weight oil can "cook" the diff causing clicking and thermal expansion. Maybe its worth a shot to stuff a few silicone ear plugs in their and see if that helps keep it cooler. I'm not very savvy when it comes to diff tuning but it could be worth it just to try and then you can eliminate that being the issue. Anyways keep up the great content and hope you get it sorted because they truck is so close to being just the best 5th scale.

I saw Walmart had two brands , one was 3in 1 labeled for RV care and the other Blaster silicone lubricant which I got . Worked great . I had used wd 40 but noticed dirt build up .

Such an awesome truck man!🔥 I'm wondering if the heat is because the rear dif might be putting extra work on the center if it is low or has too much friction for some reason. It could be those heavy pro lines too. I think I'd stick with stock tires until an aluminum dif case is available but it does seem to run OK with them other than the heat. Of course the servo is probably taking a hit from the heavy tires too.. Great video brother! 💯 🤜 🤛

just finished the video i think the heat is caused by the diff "diffing" too much. i would try shimming it up a little tighter and pack it completly full of ear plugs so its almost like a spool. see if that helps untill someone comes out with a aluminum diff cup. maybe M2c or scorched or someone is already working on it.

Hopefully you will get it sorted out. I would guess that cleaning it out and only earplugging it would reduce the friction inside and maybe less heat would build up? Just a guess though. It doesn't seem like any fresh air can get to it the way its buried deep inside all the plactic housings. Maybe a few breathing holes could be drilled in the housing to let some of the heat escape? The truck looks like a ton of fun to drive. But I can't speak from experience. Keep up the great work Guy!!

I'm only a little bit into the video so far but I just wanted to add that when you backed into that tree your truck changed directions very abruptly from going backwards to forward as you tried to save it. That, on 8s, could definitely calls issues in a diff gear. Now if you would put like 20 million or 5 million somewhere around that oil in there you probably would not have had the issue but that ear plug can get broken up inside of the diff. I stopped using earplugs a long time ago and there's better ways to lock a diff up that isn't truly locking it up and allowing it to move as it needs to to help save you from instances like that.

From what I can see it looks like there was way to much in the diff and was causing it to expand from heat and then made the gears slip because if you look at the big gear on the right the outer edge is not normal looking! But you should only be filling that up to the top cross bar of you’re gears don’t fill it up so much and it should be fine but check you shims if there is any and make sure they are fine first before putting back together

When you see the diff oil black chunky it overheated , you may need a new diff cup , definitely skipping without chewing the gear ⚙️, are the WOV Gears ⚙️ the same , I know they used a aluminum diff cup
@rcguygarage

Yeah but the black chunkiness isn't diffluid that was a single ear plug that got cooked by overheating which caused thermal expansion of the plastic

You didn’t do anything wrong, they know what we are going to do to these things. The diffs are just the weak point on that truck. I saw Exocaged on you tube break the rear diff on his second run. Chipped the teeth off of the ring gear. I will buy one of those, but I am waiting until Vitavon comes out with their diffs and other upgrades. I drive harder than Exocaged and I definitely bash harder than you. That’s not a dig on you or Exocaged, I’m just not happy unless I’m doing close to 80+ and sending it 100 feet in the air. That’s what RC is to me.
