I had to smile when you mentioned feeding wingless fruit flies, as that thought had popped into my head just moments before you said it. Drosophila are a sentimental favorite here, as our son did his doctoral research on a genetic variation in that animal, working in a place known as “The Fly Lab!” 😊 I am a huge fan of your work, including your careful cultivation of different fish species, the simple yet artful planting of your aquaria, and your calm, low-key verbal style. Thank you. 🙏

Thanks for your feedback, Christopher. Yes those Drosophila are a great food for a lot of aquarium fish, and cool that you have that sentimental connection to The Fly Lab. 🙂I think I will have to get hold of a culture of those flies again. With winter coming her in Scandinavia ants are hard to come by. Cheers, Michael 🙂

Hello, I haven't left a comment in a while but I always enjoy your videos very much. These Killifish are amazing! Thank you for the information in the description as well. 1'm getting some Platinum Halfbeaks tomorrow. They should be fun. Never kept them before.

Hi Jeff. If memory serves me, we had a chat about Colombian Tetras years ago. Is that correct? Halfbeaks sounds interesting... another cool surface micro predator. Cheers, Michael 🙂
@jjxtwo12 ай бұрын
@@MichaelJensensAquarium That is correct! 😊 Great memory. If fact we just added more Colombian Tetra to our school last week. They are enjoying the extra space after being in quarantine. It's fun watching them race across the 75 gallon tank. We haven't been successful with spawning them yet. We'll keep trying though.

Hi Michael, thank you for sharing killifish content! Do you have live food cultures or do you collect? If you have cultures, you could share how to keep them. :)

Thanks for your feedback, Pedro. Both actually. I have so many options near my home, where I can catch Daphnia, copepods, glass worms and mosquito larvae... most of the year. But I do coltivate moina, infusoria, microworms, vinegar eels etc. I have a couple of videos on my channel om this already, and more will come. Cheers, Michael. Feeding these and most other killifish with fruit flies is a lot of fun, Robert. They are so well adapted to surface feeding. Cheers, Michael :0)

In which section of the tank do they stay the most time? Rather close to the surface?

They stay close to the surface most of the time. 🙂

How long do they live ? I take it they are good jumpers?
@MichaelJensensAquarium2 ай бұрын
Hi Emma. They live for 3-4 years like most small aquarium fish. And yes, they are fabulous jumpers, so a tight fitting lid is a must. Cheers, Michael :0)
