An extended clip from a 1978 episode of "The Redd Foxx Comedy Hour" featuring Foxx as the leader of Dr. Sauage and His Pork Chops. Among those appearing in the sketch are Bill Saluga (as Raymond J. Johnson), Billy Barty, Slappy White, John Twomey, and The Unknown Comic (aka Murray Langston).

Love this clip. Thanks for posting it! My husband, Joe Clayton, is on the drums. He's an actual percussionist (conga player) but for this Redd Foxx Show he & the other band members in "Dr. Sausage's Band, the Porkchops" only pretended to play instruments.

I think it's pretty obvious they weren't actually playing instruments.

This is a real classic. I remember watching the Redd Foxx Comedy Hour....yeah, I WAS THE ONE... This was my favorite part, and Mr. Johnson, I mean Bill Saluga, was a big part of what made it work! Thanks for posting it.

If you put this much entertainment on TV today it would fall off the wall and break. Amazing performances from all involved.

Redd Foxx was one of the funniest comics of his time. I mean when parents make sure the kids are in bed before pulling out the Redd Foxx album to liven up the party you know he was something different. He also showed he could be very funny without having to use foul language as his constant punch line. The mark of a truly great comedian.

Redd Foxx not use foul language? Have you ever listened to his albums? :)

I took my girlfriend and parents to see a Redd Foxx show in Houston about 1975. I had no idea that Redd Foxx had X-rated albums. His act was laced in profanity but we all loved it. Redd Foxx’s friend, Slappy White, was on tour with Redd. There were a lot of small venues then so getting great seats was always easy. The last concert I went to see was Queen in 2019 in a 60,000 stadium in Houston and I could barely see them perform. The tickets were $550! When I was a kid I got to see The Rolling Stones for $1. I got to see the Doors for a dollar too. Same with The Beau Brummels. It’s sad people growing up now will never realize there was a time when ticket resellers didn’t exist and you could get front row seats to any concert. I took my girlfriend to see Joe Cocker at the Cullen Building on the University of Houston campus for $7. We were directly in front of the stage, front row, and there were two mountain sized speakers beside Joe Coker. We couldn’t hear for a few weeks. We were drunk on MD2020 when we were at the concert. I hope corrupt companies like Ticketmaster will one day disappear.

Wow does this bring back some awesome memories! Being a huge Sanford & Son fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this very short-lived series. Along with Dr Sausage, Foxx did a recurring skit called "Alphonse and Victoria" which was extremely funny! Wish I could see all of those shows on KZbin

This is such fun.! Enjoyed EVERYONE in this! Seeing Saluga's RJJ, jr. in this setting makes me realize what a natural he would have been to have been included in Speilberg's "1941" (1979) especially in the zootsuit-jitterbug contest scenes. What a missed opportunity!

I think the man complaining about the watch was Slappy White. He appeared on "Sanford and Son" a few times as one of Fred's buddies. I'm sure most people recognized Hal Smith, who played Otis Campbell on "The Andy Griffith Show".

I saw Slappy at a Redd Foxx concert in 1975 in Houston. I took my girlfriend, mom and dad. He used material right from his albums. I was embarrassed at first but saw my mom laughing so I was relieved. We had a fantastic time. That was Redd’s haydays era.

I disagree. Raymond J Johnson akla Billy Salgua, the real actor, is every bit as funny as anyone has a right to be. I rank him with Billy Barty, and the already late and lamented Billy De Wolfe. So there bear.

with donny n marie and sonny n cher.....i guess variety shows were in during this period.....i find nothing about this skit funny....was not a very wise move on redd's part...."one in the hand is worth more than two in the bush"....he had a hit/well establish/popular show on nbc that his was being paid $30k per episode(and when he left sanford & son it was still popular in the ratings)....and he would leave because abc offered him grand pay day but cancelled his show mid-season...truth be told i was a sanford &son fan but the show became unfunny to me after season 4...by the end of season 6 it was still popular n did well in the ratings but i found unfunny n no longer entertaining......when redd's show on abc was cancelled nbc offered him he chance to revive sanford n son but they would not meet demond wilson's salary demands and he refused to return....therefore the name of show was brought back as sanford n only lasted one season...
