I'm glad you saw the video before buying the drops. (or at least before you put them on your pegs)

Sorry, this locked up before I finished. I was glad I was able to get the peg out. Thank you for the suggestion for the hard kind. Will not use the drops again. That was scary when it stuck, and had to be tapped out. Thanks, Lora.

Super tip. I just bought some solid stuff for my new (to me) student violin as the pegs were very sticky and don't turn smoothly making precise tuning very difficult. But then I saw the liquid stuff and was wondering if I should get that also as it seems easier to apply. Your video showed me the solid stuff (Goetz) is the way to go. Thanks so much. And love all your videos.

I had a similar experience. Not long ago I applied some to one peg that was slipping. I may have used too much..the directions said to use just one drop and I remember several came out. In a day or so my peg was completely stuck. My husband carefully used a very small rubber hamer while supporting the neck with his hand from behind, and tapped gently on the end of the beg. That released it

I'm sure glad I didn't buy the peg drops for my very expensive Buson violin! I will now buy the solid at your recommendations. Thanks, Lora!

Yes, I do not want to be responsible for anyone buying those liquid drops. Yuck. Stick with the solid compound. :-)

@@RedDesertViolin thank you so much I don't know why they sell the drops then. I got so confused I bought it a couple years ago but I think it messed things up more than it helped. The weird thing is the lady in the Ardsley store didn't even know the difference and so I just bought it now that I'm more experienced I've been searching and this solidifies the answer.; no drops use the solid thanks again

You're welcome! I was forced to use the drops again recently.....and it reminded me of HOW HORRIBLE they are! Do not use them!

Hi there. I've watched dozens of your videos. Thanks. My good violin is driving me crazy because pegs are slipping too much now. The holes might be getting a tad bit enlarged. Is there a good product to prolong their use before the holes need to be filled in and redone? Thanks kindly.

Thanks for this tip. I will use it next time my pegs are slipping, At the moment My problem is that my E peg is so stuck that I cannot get it out, nor can I tune my violin, it just will not budge. The second problem is that this violin and I live in the middle of nowhere in a tropical climate where there is NO, absolutely NO music shop where I can bring it to get it unstuck. Have you got any hints, ideas for me....

Wow, well, you never want to force anything on violin, because wood can break. With that said, the wood is pretty dang tough, so here's what I would do: We jam the peg INTO the peg box when we tune, and in humid climates, the peg can swell, and gets stuck.....so you have to un-jam it. You are going to tap on the end of your peg (the end that doesn't have the peg handle) with something that is a little smaller than the size as your peg holes. You will place the scroll carefully on its side, place the object on the end of the peg, and then tap the object lightly with a small hammer or mallet. SMALL light taps, and make sure your scroll is supported very carefully, because scrolls can crack unexpectedly. If it's REALLY stuck, then I would saw the peg off, and then drill it out very carefully. It would be rare for it to be THAT stuck. If you can, support the ACTUAL SCROLL by laying it on its side, directly on the table, but let the pegs hang over the table. And remember, small taps. If it doesn't come undone, you have to drill it.

I hear rosin works
@RedDesertViolin

Rosin doesn't work. It makes a mess of the pegs. I would avoid this if I were you. It causes crunchy pegs that get STUCK.....and then you have to break them free....and then they won't stick anymore. Get the solid compound. It is BY FAR the best I have found.
