In installed them myself. I bought a reamer on ebay.com, much cheaper than buying one from a violin supplies store. Just be very patient. Turn the reamer 1/4 turn, test the peg. 1/4 turn again, test, etc. When you are getting close 1/8 of a turn of the reamer ONLY. Don't get excited and try to work fast. Take your time. Doing this for four strings will take some time but be patient, methodical and careful to to overbore the holes. If you overbore the holes then you WILL need a luther to rebush the holes (put plugs in the holes) and redrill. Those pegs have threads that actually cut into the wood a bit. You moisten the wood with a wet Q-tip (cotton swab). Two pegs are conventionally threaded and two are reverse threaded. So you have to put the right ones on the A and E string and other other two on the G and D string. The idea is that if they do ever slip in the peg hole, they will become tighter (since they are threaded) as the tension of the string pulls them tighter (that's why you have to get the threads right). I installed them on my Gliga violin (I love it!) and I am so happy with them. The only caveat is that if you have your violin in a car when it is very cold out, i.e -35 degrees Celcius (I live in northern Canada) the pegs might not hold until they get warmer. This only ever happened with one of the four pegs and never happened once the violin was at normal temperature again. I'll mention here that when you test with the peg, you MUST tighten them as much as you can when you test them to see if they fit. If you don't here's what will happen. You will think they hole is just the right size because the peg fits in the hole. But, when you put the string on, it pulls the peg much tighter and since the threads are tapered and threaded, the peg will go very deep into the hole and it will be very short on the head side of the peg box. (I have installed Wittner pegs on a cheaper violin but installed the Perfection pegs on my Gliga violin. The first violin was cheaper and I learned something. I was more careful with my Gliga violin and did it right.) Also, they recommend using a drop of glue to secure the pegs when you install them. I did not do this and it is, in my view, completely unnecessary if you test the pegs like I described above: tighten them as much as you can every time you test them. Wittner pegs have an 8:1 gear ratio but I don't like them. They are notchy (read several reviews on amazon that say this). The Perfection pegs have a 4:1 gear ratio but are much better in my opinion. Hope this helps!

If you overbore the holes, do NOT take your violin to a "luther." He will probably preach to you or nail theses to your church door. Instead, take it to a "luthier." He may be able to repair the damage. Remember what Mark Twain said -- "The difference between the right word and the almost right word, and it is a large one, is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug."

@trevorstolz8580 Жыл бұрын
@@andreluizcamy I'm glad it helped you. I know "traditional" violinists don't like geared pegs, but on, say a 300 year old Strad, the "normal" pegs actually wear the holes bigger from constant tuning and the pegs holes have to be plugged and rebored anyway after years of use. Geared pegs avoid this completely and the outer surface of the wood is stationary. It's the inner shaft that is rotating within the larger exterior shaft.

As a matter of fact, they should stick to just Mechanical Pegs (even the Guitar like pegs) because they're way more up to date.

hi, excuse me... Wich is better perfection planetario pega o wittner pegs?? 😱😱😱 thanks!!:D
@Fiddlershop3 жыл бұрын
Hard to answer- it depends a little on your preference. Wittner has a higher ratio (you have to turn the head more times to make a complete revolution on the peg) than Planetary. And some people like that because it's finer, and some people like Planetary more because it's quicker.

@@Fiddlershop 😯 I understand, thanks😀 and about the good looking of the products, are they have the same quality on the sintetic version of both?? or one looks better?😱 I just tried to buy on your store... but the shipment coasts a lot, 70 dollars to Peru...😱😱😱 does exist another shipment method? or will you sell this products on amazon? This is a very needed invention! From my research, there seems to exist three kinds of geared violin tuners on the market today, those being Wittner fine tuners, Kniller Perfection Pegs (as seen in this video) and PegHeds (similar to perfection pegs, but made by original inventor Chuck Herrin). I'm would be very curious to try them on other instruments that use friction pegs. I know Wittner makes sets for ukulele and flamenco guitar, but the instrument were I would like to try them the most is the sitar. The sympathetic strings on a sitar (there are up to 13 of them) traditionally use friction pegs with really small heads, and they are a hassle to tune. The smoother action of geared tuning pegs would be a welcome upgrade. An additional issue is that the tuning of these strings needs to switch to match the raga you are playing. That could also be much easier done with geared pegs. I actually think that these violin tuners could be retrofitted onto a sitar with minimal effort. I wonder who will be the first to try it...
@Fiddlershop4 жыл бұрын
Wow, that would be cool! We're not very well versed in sitar, but I suppose it would be very possible if the peg hole size is similar.
@JBergmansson4 жыл бұрын
@@Fiddlershop No, completely understandable, the market for sitar repair outside of India is not something one would call substantial. Yep, that's what I'm thinking. I fear the biggest practical issue, besides the cost of buying 13 of these, is really the weight they would add to an already neck-heavy instrument.

Wittner pegs are installed as standard wood pegs, (Not threaded) and you can swift back to wood if you like. If you have a vintage or expensive violin best have it done, but on average violin you could do it. There are many videos on line about them. Watch a few before you buy.
