Losing her is like losing half of myself. She loved me. I know she did. Why did you drive her from me?” God said, “You shall have no other gods before me.” Michael said, “When have I worshiped anyone but you? I’ve followed you all my life. I’ve never put anyone before you. I love her, but I never made her my god.” But Michael became hers. That’s the main message of the book, and I’m very excited to see it translated on screen, because while Michael might love her, God loves her more. “Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael Hosea does…the One who will never let her go.”

Ill never forget when this book found me. I was at a probation office, and to say it wasa crappy time in my life is an understatement.. A middle aged woman came to me with this book in hand, and gave it to me. I dont rememyehat she said, but its rude to refuse a freely given gift...so i took it. It sat on my bookshelf for years. I finally read it, and i was hit with so many emotions. I FULLY resonate with "Angel" in every aspect and to see her get a happy, relentless, Godly love was fulfilling. I have given up mostly on a "michael" type of man, but i hope one day, im blessed to be loved in a way that points me back to Christ. All in all, Francine did her thing-she touched my heart and i try not to read it too much due to how heavy it is on me. I finally watched the movie today. Im sad, not because there was anything wrong with it, but because it was so ACCURATE and just as heavy as the book. Its definitely a good read and movie.

Just 5 min a day to start to allow Him to draw you in. A few minutes in each will begin to Reveal who Jesus is. Always ask Him to show you what He wants to in it, before you open it. Ask His Holy Spirit to open your heart to Him. And just talk to Him throughout your day. About anything. He knows it anyway. But just wants to share in everything w/us. The book was absolutely terrible, too honestly. It would have been amazing if Angel had stayed with the nuns and community of survivors and hadn't returned to Michael who never respected anything about her. But she returned to him and we had to have that cringe-worthy scene where she did a striptease in the end because she was still playing the role of the "I have no worth to him" and portraying Michael as a "savior" even though he wasn't even a decent man. Michael was the epitome of a horrible man to a trauma survivor. As someone who has spent over a decade working in anti trafficking advocacy and am a #metoo and child abuse survivor, Michael was simply another domestic abuser grooming a vulnerable, traumatized woman. He acted very little different from the pimps an sex buyers she spent all her life with. He just dressed it up with religious words and roped his family into the brainwashing process, and all they did was shame her for having PTSD, had no patience with her, and told her that a baby would "fix" everything when she had miscarriages and abortions in her past. The plot of this book was so disgusting and vilifying to survivors, I just can't.

@@raqlionchaser I honestly felt the same as you when I first read it. But I grew up in a religious cult and began deconstruction a couple years ago. Also trained for ten years in anti trafficking and anti abuse. So, when I read it with new eyes, I picked up on all these terrible patterns and how Michael shared the same traits as abusers. i don't recall the book ever being explicit whatsoever and i was definitely fearful of hollywood taking on a story like this one where it's essentially about the redeeming love of Christ. but based on a lot of the preview clips here, i hope to God their focus is not solely on the romance/sexual scenes.
@moodsofkiwi92853 жыл бұрын
Yes I was thinking the same thing. I have never read the novel so I wasn’t sure if this was a Christian movie until the song started playing. I sincerely hope it’s not all about the sexual parts. I can’t decide if I want to bring middle school aged children to the movie, but it doesn’t preview appropriately.
@alyssamartinez17253 жыл бұрын
@@moodsofkiwi9285 i had commented about this on the movie's instagram and they actually replied. i do not believe they spoke anything about God in the movie based on the response they gave me but apparently they still claimed that it was rated "PG-13" ....the previews say otherwise in my opinion. it's very sad.

being someone that never read the book, I was confused seeing people say its a "Christian" movie but there's clearly explicit/sexual scenes
@monaghanfan183 жыл бұрын
@@moodsofkiwi9285 Here's the thing...What exactly defines a Christian movie? Does it mean it has to be for children? In my opinion, children shouldn't read the book either. There is Christian material in this world that should not be read or seen until a certain age. This story is about a prostitute coming to learn the love of Jesus Christ through the husband who bought her from the brothel. It is based on the book of Hosea in the BIble. I can't speak for the movie as a whole, since I haven't seen it yet, but the book does not shy away from dark and realistic themes. She was a prostitute who didn't believe in love. When her husband buys her from the brothel, she avoids in depth conversation by trying to make him have sex with her, but he refuses and tells her he won't make love to her until she is ready and knows without a shadow of a doubt that he loves her and will never hurt her. The "explicit scenes" are her trying to tempt him into a carnal state so that she can prove him wrong. This is a very REAL story, and I wouldn't show it to children. But that doesn't mean it's sinful. Half of the reason the church is so useless is because we're not willing to go into the thick of it, so to speak. We're like Pharisees avoiding the "unclean" of the world and not willing to delve deep into a person's tormented soul because it's "inappropriate". It's why there's so many unconfessed sins in the church. Why would anyone dealing with sins and dark things in there life approach someone who can't hear or speak of such things without being shocked? This book blew my mind because it didn't shy away from REALITY. I was changed as a writer after reading it. I am no longer scared to approach heavy, dark topics and willing to go anywhere as long as there's an intention for redemption and I share the love and truth of Jesus through my writing. All this to say, I hope this doesn't sound condemning at all! That wasn't my intention. This movie is not intended for children and deals with trauma and sexual abuse themes. Adult Christians and any adults for that matter will be blown away if the movie did indeed stick with the book. That I do know. God bless you.
@moodsofkiwi92853 жыл бұрын
@@monaghanfan18 thank you, I agree the church shys away from truly dark but prevalent sin issues in the current times. I won’t show it to any children with the evaluations of all of you & others’ feedback. I know that my husband and I could probably watch it, my only other concern is my husband used to struggle with lust/pornography, which the HS has thankfully delivered him from. However that’s not to say he doesn’t experience temptation nowadays. So I’m trying to discern for him too

I saw this trailer & was so intrigued & looked it up to see it is based off a book that has so many amazing reviews, so I ordered it. I want to read it before I watch the movie, I’m so excited. It’s not my usual genre & ever since my teen years & realizing I’m trans I have lost a lot of my faith because so many say my identity is a sin. I hope that this book will be able to help me.

I don’t think there is a need for nudity or hot sensual scenes in a Christian movie. I don’t want to “hold a candle” for someone having sexual intimacy. All delicate details could be delivered in such a way that we could understand that it happened without us having to watch soft porn. This movie is to deliver a message about God’s grace, it should be doing that. I love Francine Rivers! Her books are great.
