I am extremely impressed by the work done in the process. It just too amazing to see this kind of manual work that's the highest form of art for automotive industry design. This level of customization could really be a much BIG thing in the future for so many people who may not know they actually would like custom design cars for themselves.

amazing result, but i must ask, why didn't you use a block of sculpting foam and save time and money, then you also have the template forever
@robertnicholls99179 жыл бұрын
Bigbooster126 With clay, you can refine the design or fix mistakes quickly. Also, sometimes the original intent doesn't work once you've seen it. Clay gives you more flexibility. It's a one-off, like painting, so to speak. Good work though. I would love to send him some designs just for fun.
@Tuffenough4u9 жыл бұрын
+Robert Nicholls You don't need to refine anything if you have a CAD engineered design. You do all your shaping in CAD and test things with with solidworks. If one where to use a 100w laser cutter, they could easily cut an entire skeleton within a thousandth of preciseness to build a framed shell like a boat hull. Then just stuff the gaps with insulation foam like the "Blade" designer did. With the same laser used for cutting the flat wood parts, you can easily carve a 3D end panel, such as rear and front grill caps. All one would have to do at this point is lay the glass or carbon fiber then finish sand. You should get exactly what you designed without flaw.
@S1KRYD9 жыл бұрын
+Bigbooster126 Potters Clay is cheaper than foam. You can also use the same clay many times over. Not so with foam. Also you have to mix up foam from a liquid and this means if you make a mistake and need to fix it you have to wait several hours. Not so with clay. Also with the clay the end product is a hollow panel were as with foam it is usually left on the car. I have used foam before and it is not as easy to shape with as they clay is. There is a reason why ALL, YES ALL car manufacturers still use clay over foam :) These are just a few.
@S1KRYD9 жыл бұрын
+Tuffenough4u That's not how car manufacturers do it
@Tuffenough4u9 жыл бұрын
I realize that, and while I commend your methods and results for pure art form, your efficiency and out-cost must be killer to. Companies are usually slow to change with the times, and often in regress of traditional methods since it has always worked for them in the past. The point I guess I am trying to make is times are changing. Boeing is producing full wing panels with 3D printers now. People like me are building 100w lasers and homemade CNC machine in their garages that can get things within thousands of accuracy. Don't get me wrong, I respect your art. But due to efficiency and practicality, it's going to go extinct soon. Also, the foam molding I was talking of is not liquid and has a wooden exoskeleton. All that is completely removed once you have finished glassing or laid carbon fiber. Anyhow, I appreciate your videos and efforts.
