My husband struggled with mental health and addiction and he lost his battle 6-25-2023 before he passed he kept listening to this song and sending it to his friends and family…the day of his service we played this song and it was almost like the room finally understood what he was trying to say. RIP DMB 💔2gether4eva

This song alone will classify them as legends. This is their signature sound, vibe, groove, melody, etc. RHCP best song! Yes they have even better songs in musical value, but in personal connection, this one is the closest and deepest to me, it feels like these 4 musicians are giving me a group hug, best feeling when im at my worse state of mind😌😭😌😌❤️❤️❤️❤️.

Well... A ton of older people who are in there 50 and 60s now really love this group and they are more known for all types of other songs. This happens to be my favorite and is in my opinion the (prettiest/best) bass line ever. For instance Scar Tissue is a song with all of those attributes as well

Had this played at my life partner of ten years funeral in July. He died of cancer unfortunately, but he went quickly rather than slowly which in some ways is a blessing. He loved RHCP so much and saw them at Hyde Park with John many many years ago (without me) and we saw them together with John at the Emirates Grounds, Manchester together and it was magical. I’m glad we got to share that together. His sister chose this song to played as the reflection music during his funeral and I thought it was a truly beautiful choice. I miss you so bad, Daniel. Take me to the river, let me to your shore. Well, I’ll be coming back baby, I’ll be coming back for more. ❤ see you someday my lovely man.

That is John John Hayden sitting on the top of the old truck with Chad Smith, he was a very short guy. He passed away years ago from health problems because of his small size. We both went to the same elementary school circa 1972, in Glendale, CA. and we both ended up working for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the late 80's-early 90's. He's loved and missed by all. Sometimes I sit down and listen to this. In peace. I listen to every word and it slowly takes over my mind and body. And I think about all the what ifs in my life. My last what if is what if I were gone. And then I think about my daughter. I never want her to feel like how I feel. I don’t want her to feel the pain that I sometimes do.

Wow I'm listening to this for the first time since I was 18. I had become homeless & addicted to opiates I didn't know if I had a future or what to do. My family & I had to come together and all get sober. I remember listening to this one of the last times I did drugs & now listening to it makes me realize everything is going to be okay. I'm 23 and have a great career in the healthcare field & 4 years sober. No matter how shitty things are right now, it will always change. Idk if anyone will even see this but don't give up Edit:wow thank you for all the comments. Don't give up!! We're in this together ❤️

+SWWonders I personally think there's more good music being made right now than ever! Of course it CAN'T be totally innovative in the same way caused by certain social explosions that were going on all the hell all over the place in certain times -people like the Beatles & Jimi Hendrix were great musicians and they stayed OPEN to change, but: it was pretty much accidental - and LUCKY - that they wandered into about four or five HUGE social upheavals, and they were good enough to plug into them. The weird part about FINDING the good stuff is first, you have to turn off your television and throw the radio into the bathtub - it's EXACTLY backwards of the old way. It really IS about recommendations, and digging through a whole lot of hay to get to the needle, IYKWIM.

LetThereBeLoud That's where I'd disagree, at least for know. It seems to me that there are still a few creaky old execs at the big record companies who're still waiting for "the good old days" to come back, and they think they can HELP that by fucking with all the people who are maneuvering OUTSIDE of their rules. You look at somebody like Joe Bonamassa, who couldn't care LESS about a "big record contract" but he's doing O.K. Because he won't sit, fetch and heel on command, it's VERY unlikely he'll place any songs into big Hollywood movies, win too many Grammys (no matter how LITTLE competition in the Blues category!) Even IF and WHEN the big companies realize they're just going to die if they don't pick up independent artists, they HATE not being in charge. Axl Rose must've been laughing his ass off at 'em.

I was in my first year of recovery from substance abuse when this song first came out. It felt as if Anthony had crawled inside my head and taken a look around. It became a theme song for my recovery (as I was sure of at the time, it was written during a period when Anthony was also in early recovery; evidently his plane had to bounce a few times before it landed). My own band had broken up not long before and I didn't know if I'd ever have another (I did!). 33 years later I haven't gotten loaded, a day at a time. Since I'm the same age as the boys in the band, that's half my life. And I owe it in part to Anthony showing his soul at that time. The song was a comfort to me when I really needed it.

I've got a bad disease But from my brain is where I bleed. Insanity it seems Has got me by my soul to squeeze. Well all the love from thee With all the dying trees I scream. The angels in my dreams (yeah) Have turned to demons of greed that's mean. Where I go I just don't know I got to got to gotta take it slow. When I find my piece of mind I'm gonna give you some of my good time. Today love smiled on me. It took away my pain say please All that you had to free You gotta let it be oh yeah. Where I go I just don't know I got to got to gotta take it slow. When I find my piece of mind I'm gonna give you some of my good time. Oh, so polite indeed Well I got everything I need. Oh make my days a breeze And take away my self destruction. It's bitter baby, And it's very sweet. I'm on a rollercoaster, but I'm on my feet. Take me to the river, Let me on your shore. I'll be coming back baby, I'll be coming back for more. Doo doo doo doo dingle zing a dong bone Ba-di ba-da ba-zumba crunga cong gone bad I could not forget But I will not endeavor Simple pleasures aren't as special But I won't regret it never. Where I go I just don't know I got to got to gotta take it slow. When I find my piece of mind I'm gonna give you some of my good time. Where I go I just don't know I might end up somewhere in Mexico. When I find my piece of mind I'm gonna keep you for the end of time.

cheers to Anthony Kiedis' father! when I was 16 (22 years ago) I was stuck in a group home, and had nothing but books and music to occupy my time. I wrote a letter to RHCP telling them my story and How much their music meant to me, I got a 2 page response! it was a very heartfelt letter that I still cherish. he even included a signed picture of Flea, as I had mentioned I loved his bass. that was a tough time for me, and Mr. Kiedis really brightened my day, and he didn't have to. thank you again sir. *****October 2018, please send a constant positive vibe Blackie's way, he is very ill from what I understand. I’ve struggled with depression since I was too young to even understand, but I really felt this song growing up. Tried so many different ways of handling my “bad disease” some more self destructive than others. I’m microdosing now and feel like “today love is smiling on me”. I don’t know if it will help to finally chase my demons away or this is just the rollercoaster I will always have to ride, and do my best to figure out. One day I will find peace of mind so I can be more open to love. Wishing peace love health hope for all on this journey. ❤️

This song used to be my Ringtone when I was younger for the longest time. Just listening to it again brings back soo many great memories of a time where I was so happy and life was so much more care-free. Now I'm sitting here alone thinking of all of my best friends and loved ones who shared these times with me but are now gone forever. I lost my first true love unexpectedly at the age of just 17, I also lost another one of my best friends unexpectedly that I've known for 17 years at the end of June (the 22nd) of this year, and after that I ended up shockingly losing my final best friend that I've known since I was 5 years old on August 31st, and our friendships were some of the best damn times I've ever had for 32+ years. 🥹 Life isn't fair, and it's so damn short. Please don't ever forget to tell the people you love how much they mean to you, and do it often. 🙏 Never take it for granted either because you never know when your last chance to say goodbye will be. Okay I'm crying again now. 😭💔 My broken heart is completely destroyed, but I'm still going to continue to try my best to pour out as much love as I can to all of you still. I love every single one of you... 🫶🧡🫶🧡

when my life couldn't get more gray and black, the only thing I ask is for a tiny ray of light. and the whole day I go without a way out. yet at the end of my day, your sweet sounds melt away my toxic rage ball and fill me with the warmth and love that ascends me to the stars and carries me happily into the next day.

Ya too bad my friends don't like rhcp because they are idiots and rather listen to garbage. Not many people appreciate rhcp like they should. Only the people that understand music care for them. It seems to me this song is about a dad …. When I was 3-4 my heroes were many yet my biggest hero was my dad. Today lands 5 years after his passing and I’ve enjoyed this song since the album first dropped. And today I listened and I felt the song in that light of hero worshipping your dad. The ordinary hero. And as life Changes so to does your hero.

This is funny, because Mother's Milk came out in 1989. So if you're in your mid 60s you would have been in your 30s which would have been a perfectly reasonable age to listen to RHCP during their prime in the 90s.
