Moel Famau is a good climb from Denbigh, doing a 60 miler totally offroad to Barmouth in a few weeks...two battery job that one. Starting to see a lot of homemade 'no mtb's' signs on a many Welsh trails.

Don't own an ebike yet, but watching your channel and particularly the wilderness adventure rides, has changed my opinion completely, now I super keen to one day afford to kit up and get out exploring (and score a showing in the bike vault !D)! Keep up the vids, especially the exploring backcountry!!

Spot on Steve. (My first proper mountain bike was a 1985 Saracen Conquest btw) It has to be one of the strongest points of an e-bike, the ability to explore new trails, and actually be pleased when you take a wrong turn and have to climb back up that downhill you’ve just done. I really enjoy all the planning and route finding too. Just been up exploring in the Lakes and not one snide comment or e-bike hate! Times are changing!

Great story with 100% agreement...I can't ride big jumps or upside down or lots of other things but at the age of 62 i can ride in the wilderness in places i could never think of riding as a much younger person...my bike riding adventure has gone to the highest level...great for body and mind. I love electric mtbs.

Been in love with bikes since my childhood, but even more than a biker I'm a hiker and mountaineer who loves to go to mountains and wilderness. I took my MTB to some crazy places, because it is joy to be out there with your bike. But there's a limit in what you can do and where you can go with ordinary MTB. Once I finally tried the EMTB it was the wow moment, immediately I though omg with this thing I can do the bike routes I could only dream about before. Then I tested the few in the wild of the mountains, and I remember those as one of the best rides in my life. Soon I'm buying my own first EMTB and I have so many planes where I'll take it and where it will take me, can't wait! And I'll be sending the photos to EMBN! :)

More people on two wheels is a good thing. Big love to all the e-bike riders and unpowered bikes alike. Support each other and the sport of cycling, and town planning, trails and cycling infrastructure will only get better and better.

e-mtb has got me back into mountain biking after years away doing other things. The piled up injuries and years don't matter as much on the e-bike and I'm really enjoying myself again like I did when I got my first hardtail mtb and went off road. Can't wait for the next gen of batteries to really give us the range for a multi-day unsupported trip without having to shell out for a second battery and carry it :) Gotta say, a big part of getting back into riding has been EMBN and GMBN, I'm picking up so many skills I never learned the first time around. Thanks for the work you guys and girls do on these channels, really a great service.

My first MTB was also a Stumpjumper, 1991 model, these were great riding bikes. Just got my first EMTB, a leftover new 2017 Haibike AllMtn 5.0. I have only put 20 miles on it but it is already made me remember why I fell in love with mountain biking nearly 30 years ago. Health issues have kept me from being able to ride more than 5 miles at a time the past few years, and only a few times a year. The EMTB has me planning for some great ADVENTURES! Love your channel, your content and information was invaluable while I was looking for my first E-Bike. You saved me from buying a hub drive EMTB. One ride on a mid drive and I knew that is what I needed for the type of riding I wanted to do. Thank You

I've seen more of where I live in two short weeks than I ever did on an analog bike. I climbed hills I'd never thought I could and loved every minute. These are the bikes I dreamed of, not for the speed, for the climbing. I just go where I want and seek new places. It's brilliant.

Love EMTB and Steve's ebike epithany ! I challenge surrey hills every 2 months to reach some tops from where I can take some drone footages. I have a coffee and croissant and then find a good downhill and back home. Sometimes I stay on for an overnight in the woodlands hiding in my hammock and listening to the wilderness....and late traffic. I ride a sturdy bright trek powerfly that I cover with camo tarp when in hide...

I come from a background of Adventure Motorcycles, and got into e-biking due to the laws regarding riding off road on motorised vehicles here in Norway. Now I absolutely love the sensation of gliding silently through the forest, and I'm planning multi-day trips this summer bringing my tent and sleeping bag along with me on the bike, just like I have done on my motorcycle! Admittedly my e-bike of choice is a bit out of the ordinary (15kW motor for a start), but I will be riding together with others on more conventional eMTB's with our goal being to get as far into the forest as possible and discovering some great locations for camping :)

Spot on, Steve! Great message with super clips from far and wide to make your points. This is what got me back to biking. I haven’t done a thousand miles in a season on any kind of bike since the eighties. Before this video, I thought of sharing a photo of my wife’s 1985 Cannondale SM500 with its 24” rear and 26” front wheel posed next to my Bosch powered Felt Outfitter with its 5” fat tires. It has taken me places in the last year that I would never dreamed of riding when I was in my 20’s or 30’s... and I’ve got a few years and pounds on you, Steve.

Back in the day when I was a boy, we use to ride our bikes over the dumps, as the years rolled by it became know as mountain biking. I can remember buying my first real MB which was Specialised hard tail , a few years on from that I bought a full suspension bike , with disc breaks! Every year technology moved the game along, exciting times for all MT bikers. Im now in my mid fifties, my knees have gone and I can no longer ride up hill, no probs downhill 😁 Its been so demoralizing having to get off my bike and walk up the trails, its hard to accept old age creaping in. Now thanks to Ebikes , im able to ride the trails again, gone its the need to get off and walk the bike, its amazing what a little motor assist can do for an old timer like me. My mind still thinks I'm that kid that use to ride the dumps some forty years ago but my knees knows differently, its thanks to evolution and the invention of Ebikes that im able to continue doing what I enjoy most......riding my bike.

Ah, Steve, you've kind of summed it up. I used to do a fair bit of MTB while living in Scotland, alternating weekends with hillwalking - my 50th Munro was Sgurr Na Ciche in Knoydart, as mentioned in that film. Awesome. I was always looking for the tracks which looped into the hills, or the routes over the lowlands which took in all kinds of terrain. I was younger, lighter and fitter then. And more single with no kids! Life moves on, and I am now 50, married, with a 5yo and 7yo who are starting their cycling careers on Islabikes. I have a gravel bike, and try to get out as much as I can in-between swimming lessons, gymnastics clubs and Beavers. Oh, and work, home, garden, and all the rest. Pre-kids there was Mountain Bike Orienteering in the Peak District. That was great, but I have lost the fitness which got me there, and am carrying considerably more lumber. But now there is EMTB. The world is opening up again. I am on my smartphone every evening looking at viewranger, planning micro-adventures which I will be able to squeeze into the gaps in the schedule, or move the schedule to fit without too much hassle. The Shropshire Hills, the Peak District again, Wales, The Cotswolds, The Wessex Downs and The Malverns. All accessible within a couple of hours of home. So, I've now bitten the bullet and done it. Ordered an EMTB. Budget restricts me to a hardtail, however I will use it to commute my 12 miles, too. No shower at work? No problem. So, time to get fit again, lose some of the lumber, keep up with the kids as they get faster, and get back out into the wind, rain and mud. Time to feel alive! Oh, and it is possible to combine long days in the saddle with a Flat White and piece of Victoria Sponge. Almost mandatory, in fact. Keep up the good work. Loving your films. Simon.

Seriously good points. When i got into mountain bikes i went out and bought a Muddy Fox Courier, then later on a Gary Fisher both rigid. I still ride the fisher and still never ridden a suspension bike. The sport has changed alot thats for sure. I still cant ride jump, ride burms actually any fancy riding tricks, but getting out there and riding the trails is what its was always about in my opinion. Owning an Ebike would be awesome particularly since i am not getting any younger but access seems to be a big deal right now. In Washington state i would have to share the trails with the 4x4s and dirt bikes not a good combo that might actually be worse than riding on the road. Other than that i am all over looking for an ebike and getting out there.

Exactly, those emtb bashers think you don't do anything on ebike, they think it's like motorcycle. I didn't notice I was less wet than I'm on my regular mtb, and riding flat road sections is proper workout when motor shuts down. But average movement speed is more properly spread, entire ride is more dynamic cause ascents are not so slow and time consuming and you can certainly go over terrain that is very hard or impossible to do with ordinary bike, which opens completely new world of possibilities and joy

Sure looks great ,however in reality there is the same old problem ,battery life , for some of the rides depicted in the video you would need more than one battery ,that was not mentioned .Out in the Scottish wilderness without with lots of climbing I am thinking two spare batteries.
@embn6 жыл бұрын
Just one! Which we carried in bags with specific carriage for batterys. We'll be looking into more wilderness rides, how to manage batteries and even if there are ways to charge it in emergencies!
@pc750-V46 жыл бұрын
Good video, it has made me think for the first time that an ebike might be great. But as screerunner said multi day adventures in the wilderness means multi battery adventures which is not so great. Do a video on actually going on a multi day wilderness adventure and tell us how you dealt with batteries and power and I might finally be fully converted, saying is one thing actually doing it is another...
@stevejones79566 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks, we didn't take a spare battery for the Scotland trip we simply rode in eco as much as possible
@pc750-V46 жыл бұрын
@@stevejones7956 I know I watched it, but that's a single day trip. In the video you talk about emtbs unlocking multi day wilderness adventures, which I agree would be fantastic if we can do it without it being a multi battery adventure. So HOW do we do that, otherwise it's only one day adventures with the ability to go further (which is good) but it ain't unlocking multi day adventures is it. Show me how and I will be a happy chappy 😁

why do you need an ebike to explore new trails? adventure means that unexpected things happen, routes take longer than planned, things go wrong but you somehow overcome it...with a heavy bike that is powered by a battery with limited life i really wouldn t want to go and do trips on unfamiliar terrain...i think a good adventure bike has as minimal tech as possible to minimalise the risk of something going wrong and get stuck in the middle of nowhere...
