Thanks. I was looking to tone down my old permanent hair color. But I have about 2” of new growth with my less than 25% grey coming in. It’s a little stark my brown ashy root to the orange-red ends. But my hair is long. The shades EQ gives me hope I won’t totally ruin my new hair but can tone down some of the orange. I was looking at trying 06abn brown smoke. Thank you for the great explanation! I'm looking to do the at home redken shades eq crystal clear gloss with the activator solution that goes with it. I do get my hair professionally colored, my near natural very dark brown. I had a bad haircut that left my curly hair very frizzy. Do i apply the mixed solution to damp or dry hair? If they’re orange you need to add blue! Use the 7P 9P to make an 8!

My hair is similar to yours and in much need of a toner... I like the gold tones in it... and I have never done a toner using redken at home... Im not sure which number to try... kinda confused between the 9n, 9gb or gi... I have a lot of gray hair but it blends in with my blonde.... so, I'm not sure if I can mix 9n and gi or gb to tone but keep the gold tones... any advice?

For anyone wondering the hydrogen peroxide content of Shades Eq processing solution is approximately 2% so it’s around a 7 volume but still like she said won’t lift natural hair color 😊

Not true, my hair is a natural level 6 and a 7 volume lifts my dark blonde roots to orange. I am so fed up of people saying it will not lift a natural colour because I know for a fact it does.

A 7 volume might, but I’ve never had the processing solution lift any hair and I use it everyday!

@@ReileyCollier I haven't tried the Redken processing solution on my hair and now you have said that I really want to try it. I'll have to see if I can find a UK hairdresser that would do a test strand on my hair for me. I can say from experience that the Guy Tang demi perm processing solution did lift my hair to orange and that is supposed to be equiv to 6 vol. Also Elliebangs a utube hairdresser uses Redken and I have seen her roots looking like hot roots with a red hue. Thanks for the info though def something for me to try out on a small section as I would so love to be able to use it.

A toner will only shift the color of your blonde! 9V 9P and 9NB will make your blonde ashy!

It would be! It’s a Demi hair color. Shades is just translucent so it will fade!

Thank you for this video and answering color questions! My question is; I am wanting to cover my gray which I have been letting grow out for 10 months. (was going to go the all natural route but I don't like it!) It is fine but not baby fine hair. So there is about 5 inches of salt and pepper, with probably 75% white at temples and sides, with 25-50% white on top. The bottom 2/3rds of my hair is old color, which is a med- dark brassy brown. I was hoping to try demi permanent instead of permanent color this time around, permanent (Color Fusion) is what I had been doing before I stopped coloring for 10 months. Here's what I'm hoping will work: to try 5n Shades EQ on my uncolored root portion, and blending that into the old color bottom part with 7nb Shades EQ. Do you think this will work? How long do you think I should process my virgin hair? My gray isn't usually very resistant I think, but I used to process my roots with permanent dye for about 45 minutes.

Oh - and my natural color without the gray is a very dark brown, which used to get reddish highlights in the summer.

Hi! Shades EQ won’t “cover your gray” it’s just going to blend it. I definitely would do it under heat for 35 minutes with a processing cap. Also, i have heard that the NB series is going to blend grays the best. I would just give it a try. I definitely think it will help. But it’s not going to completely cover

If you are looking for a shade lighter than your hair color, you would need to lift it! Unfortunately toners do not lift hair colors.

If there’s warmth in your hair (orange) you might need to be lightened again! Kind of hard to tell without seeing it though!
