Hollywood executives should be legally allowed to install James Bond-style trap doors over shark tanks in their offices so that when someone walks in and says "let's make a serious horror movie called The Bye-bye Man," they can be quickly and efficiently destroyed.

My plot for SCRATCH SCRATCH Okay...so there was a bullying incident in junior high where some mean girls made some nice girl drink a lot of alcohol (they called her "Ratchet" instead of her given name "Rachel", which then got shortened to "Ratch"), then they locked her in a trunk for the lulz. The nice girl had a panic attack inside the trunk, hyperventilated, and she died. In her panicked state, she tried to claw her way out before she died. 25 years later, the mean girls are mothers to mean junior high girls when one of those girls dies. The moms are having a Facebook conversation about it when an anonymous user posts the following: SCRATCH SCRATCH WHO'S THAT RATCH? ONE MORE WHISKEY DOWN THE HATCH SCRATCH SCRATCH LOCK THE LATCH ONE MORE DEAD GIRL FROM YOUR SNATCH It's Rachel, back to kill the daughters of her tormentors, then the tormentors themselves. BOOM, there it is. Mike and Jay, you owe me royalties.

"This movie tries to gaslight you into thinking its central baddie is actually well-thought-out (and is, presumably, worthy of sequels that God willing won't happen), when really it's the most generic crap, both in terms of substance and character design." ^a positive review of Bye Bye Man on Rotten Tomatoes. No, I'm serious. Someone wrote this and then went on to rate it fresh.
@definitelynotofficial73507 жыл бұрын
Some more of that "positive" review: "That’s my face when I force myself to think about the shitsack horrorbortion that is The Bye Bye Man for more than three seconds at a stretch" "The Bye Bye Man just doesn’t know what the fuck, OK? None of this movie makes any sense." "Here is an abridged list of things in The Bye Bye Man that are stupid:" "The Bye Bye Man: not even once. I need a drink." Oh, and here's pretty much the only positive thing in it: "The part of the movie where the Beebs is driving his victims slowly bats isn’t terrible compared to the rest of the film. [...] The characters may be cardboard, Cressida Bonas may be an absolutely terrible actress, and Douglas Smith may be a bargain basement version of Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things and Shut In, who is in turn a discount version of Dane DeHaan, but at least there are some intermittent scares." And that's a "positive" review.
@definitelynotofficial73507 жыл бұрын
+NDfor SPDadsdas Yes I agree. But it's also the fault of the critic. If that's what you have to say about the movie and you give it something like a 6/10, I'm sorry, but you're a shit critic.

I'd encourage anybody that wouldn't normally be into musicals to give this film a shot. While Mike and Jay's critiques are all fair, Jay in particular tends to be fairly cynical (which is obviously fine, that's his taste, I'm just saying that I knew he wouldn't enjoy this film as much as many other people), so maybe this film wasn't made for him. But this movie touched me on an emotional level more than I think any film ever has. I'm not currently a musician, I'm not from L.A, I didn't feel any romantic sentimentality because of anything like that. This film is just fucking beautiful. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are truly breathtaking. Courageous performances from both. The score is legendary I believe and will go down in history, the screenplay absolutely out of this world. I have never been a big musicals fan, I find them cringe worthy a lot of the time, but this was so emotionally charging. I felt every emotion throughout this film and left with a smile on my face and I haven't stopped listening to the score since. Whatever your typical movie preference you cannot miss this one. Some may believe I'm overstating this film but it honestly has stuck with me since I watched it about a week ago. I just wanna see it again, I definitely will be doing. (p.s Ryan Gosling is now the starring role in about 3 of my favourite films of all time; Drive, The Place Beyond The Pines and now this. He's even fantastic in The Big Short. I wanna see The Nice Guys too, that looks great. He's fucking brilliant.) Also Emma Stone is my favourite actress by far, she best get an Oscar for this

I really enjoyed that movie too. For a moment, it warmed my cold, cynical, jaded piece of shit heart, and that's quite the achievement. But mostly I liked it because it managed to emphasize the duality of LA/Hollywood, highlighting both the forlorn longing evoked through its mystic glamor as well as the plastic fakeness underlying it.

I've been a RLM watcher for a while and this is the one video that i find myself coming back to the most. Finally i decided to watch La La Land the other day and ended up liking it a lot! It is a bit grounded but the ending really elevated it. Thank you RLM, without this video i probably wouldn't even think of checking it. I didn't like Grease 2 though

La La Land has a bittersweet tone throughout that I'm surprised didn't resonate with these guys. Some of my favorite art and music finds joy and nobility in life's struggles and losing battles. I love this movie.

I watched Bye Bye Man on Netflix the other day because this review had me curious. They're not wrong with it lowering the bar, it feels like it was written on heavy sedatives. The Bye Bye Man, his Resident Evil dog, the coins and the train are never explained and all turn up intermittently like the screenwriters kept forgetting about bits of their own lore. My favourite scene came in the aftermath of the girl getting hit by the train (though comically warning train driver deserves an MVP). The lead actor is there for it, then it jumps to night time with numerous police cars and ambulances hanging around with sirens blaring. Then the other two young actors turn up and only then does the lead tell them what happened to their friend. They are completely shocked, having made no assumptions about the comically massive crime scene they've just wandered into. Also Carrie-Anne Moss is present, giving off massive Denise Crosby vibes. Seriously, it makes Jeepers Creepers look like fucking art. That film might have been generic and uninspired but at least it felt like it was made by sentient human beings. That's how low Bye Bye Man has set the bar.
