I started off with rocksmith, played a good 600 hours on it before i bought my own amp and decided to learn through tabs. Personally I think rocksmith has its ups and downs. For instance, it allowed me to learn my chord shapes and be able to play songs easily. The problem i found the most about it is that i wasn't retaining the song. I was always so dependent on looking at the screen to know what to do next that I never actually learned the song. But the fact that it got me started on the greatest hobby i've ever had, I gotta say I owe Rocksmith a huge debt of gratitude.

If you use tabs I'd recommend you do it as well. It makes going back and forth between the two much easier. The go through the neck look is great for beginners who have no idea what tabs are. Yes the brain still adjusts after a few minutes, but playing RS inverted makes bouncing back and forth seamless and helps your tab reading.

If you use a computer to play Rocksmith you can use a common speaker to play without any latency, but probably you used an HDMI cable, so that was the reason of such latency. @@RedlightBlue I was going to say, on console hdmi for audio is really bad for this game. If you go into the options on PC there's an "audio engine" setting. If you have a really good PC you can turn this down to 2 (default is 5) to reduce the amount of buffer frames, so the audio latency will be barely noticeable. Just make sure not to use HDMI for audio. I'm excited to see your next video.

There is no workaround for cutting latency on XBox. Its just how Microsoft handles audio, and there is no fix.

In regards to Xbox One, this is a reply from Ubisoft when I asked them about audio latency: Thank you for contacting Ubisoft Support. The Xbox One does not have analog connections and therefore, the best setup is with an optical cable directly to a receiver that does very minimal sound conversion. This setup works well for most users, but still will show increased audio lag compared to the Xbox 360 version utilizing analog connections.

Pros of rocksmith : - Easy to grasp lessons - Decent technique exercises - Guitarcade - Ability to slow the song or speed it up - Ability to add less or more notes - Engaging and fun, possibly making practice more exciting for some people Cons of rocksmith (in my opinion) : - Takes far longer to improve than learning without it - Hard to sometimes hear your mistakes with background music (muted notes, bad hammer-ons pull offs, etc) - Limited song selection without paying - Nearly impossible to retain a song, when you put it down you realize you still can’t play guitar Overall : I think you’re better off without rocksmith, I’ve tried it and sank 100 hours. 10 hours without it and I was already much better than anything I had learned in those 100 hours. A year later and I don’t regret being self taught without rocksmiths help, I believe I’m 100x better than I would’ve been. It’s a good game for fun when you’re skilled already, not so much for learning because of the flaws I mentioned.

So I got it for Christmas whenever I was 16, and by no surprise I can play a lot of songs now! I’m still working on trying to perfect pinch harmonics and two hand tapping while also memorizing how to play songs without the game but now I’m getting into doing my own riffs and messing with my own tones. Great way to learn! I always recommend it to people wanting to get into playing guitar!

The production of this video is awesome. It felt like I was watching a documentary.

2:08 This is so true. When I first picked up Guitar hero, I was pissed that even "easy" was hard because I'm so used to playing all of the notes. lol. I've obviously adapted since, but damn it was frustrating.

I've been playing for 20 years, I was able to learn a couple riffs but the delay in rock Smith made it hard for me to enjoy playing it consistently, glad to see I'm not the only one with experience who didn't do amazing haha
@alexconner39585 жыл бұрын
Exactly my experience. As a guitarist I wanted to love it but just couldn't get over the latency screwing stuff up no matter how hard I tried.
@FUBARGunpla5 жыл бұрын
@@alexconner3958 right?! it sucks because it is a really unique and interesting little experience that had there been not so much lag between pluck and play, I'd probably still play it today
@lucidry6 жыл бұрын
The lag has to be fine tuned by config file with some systems to reduce lag as much as possible. Some basic on board soundcards tend to be best for almost no latency with specific settings
@RedlightBlue6 жыл бұрын
sounds like a lot of work, but ill have to look into it
@lucidry6 жыл бұрын
@@RedlightBlue it's worth it! It's a but of a pain, indeed. On my desktop machine with a ht omega striker soundcard it's unbearable lag. But from my surface pro (1) almost no lag at all. I then use headphone jack to rca cable to my receiver... Hdmi and optical cables introduce lag it seems through their signal processors. Try these things first: www.reddit.com/r/rocksmith/wiki/lag_guide

Love Rocksmith! I tried to learn as a kid but didn't have the patience to try and learn to read music and the song selection of most books were impossible for me to follow. Now at 56 yrs old I'm actually learning to play, to little too late? Never! Just got the Stevie Wonder song pack and I'm diving head first into Superstition and now at 56.8% which I never believed I'd be able to do so yes, for me it's an amazing learning tool!
@davidmorrow2554 жыл бұрын
As long as them fingers work it's never to late
@mrjpuddin56375 жыл бұрын
You should try using Line selector to split signal into game and amp. Let him try with no latency
@RedlightBlue5 жыл бұрын
ooh, that's an interesting idea. gonna look into it
@kpag30305 жыл бұрын
Mr J Puddin you can also do the calibration feature and it will adjust for latency.
@macdietz5 жыл бұрын
@@kpag3030 the calibration feature just minimizes the lag to a slightly less unplayable level... playing with a receiver and external speakers is the only way to really reduce the lag but you can only do that with component cables so that blows too

I noticed you've already been lambasted by everyone for using the HDMI signal :) Just a couple notes. I've been playing guitar for 15 years and picked up Rocksmith about 3 years ago. Note registering is guitar/pickup dependent, I've found. It's pretty different from one guitar to the next. I play with six different guitars and some will have more trouble registering low strings while the others have trouble with the high strings and a couple don't seem to have much trouble with either. Just make sure you do the "calibration" (in tuning section) each time you plug a different guitar in. That solves a lot of the note registration issues. I have it on PC and XBOX One X. To get rid of most the latency on the Xbox, I bought an HDMI->analog converter to run through my Yamaha Aventage receiver and set it to use the pure stereo signal. The more digital effects that touch the signal, the more latency you'll have. Some amps are worse than others. If your amp has a "pure" option, use it. If you can keep a digital processor out of the signal chain, you'll have very little latency. Look forward to an updated vid! As a seasoned player myself, I found the latency to totally ruin the game. But after latency was no longer an issue, the game was quite fun. I'd also recommend going into settings and choose the option to override the leveling up stuff, it just sets it to "master" (can't remember what it's called). It simply shows all the notes and plays the songs how they were written. Much easier for a seasoned guitarist than starting with missing notes.

all very helpful. i actually bought it for the pc since making this vid, so the latency issues are mostly resolved! if you have any recommendations for what kind of guitar works best with the game, i'd love to hear them:) i'm in the market for a new guitar atm aha. also yeah!! hoping to make an updated one later this month

I play with 8 very different guitars and have zero latency issues on PC. I do agree that some pickups have slight registering issues bit that's easily solved using the calibration tool. Most problems sound like they're console related?

Bought rocksmith 3 years ago as a 38 year old who always wanted to play. I still struggle, but more so due to dedication more than anything. The latency is annoying and sometimes it feels like it doesn't register notes i play, but i love me some rocksmith

The note registering is brutal on the low e I find... but yeah, rocksmith's tight

I switched from PS3 to PC when 2014 came out and I've never looked back. I much prefer it on the PC as i don't have the issues with note registration, even after doing the latency calibration, that i did on the PS3. Maybe it's better on the PS4, but I like it on the PC, even if I had to rebuy some of my songs on Steam.
