If you notice on Hot Wheels "wheels", they taper off towards the outside of the wheel. Toward the inside of the wheel is a small "bead-like" feature that is the only part that touches the track. That gave the cars so much of their speed, for less friction going down the track.
@pimpmydiecastsdiecastandto31765 жыл бұрын
correct and simple science the less area that touches the track equals less drag and friction equals more speed ,,, the rears are wide because they drive and put power down so that's beneficial .. note that on jet powered cars for land speed records all wheels are super skinny and often not rubber but solid metal to get rid of the drag of pneumatic rubber tyres........on hotwheels cars they'd have been faster with skinnys all round as no drive went through the wheels but they stayed true to the real cars of the day

That build reminded me why I like HotWheels so much. I clearly remember playing with them in the 60's and thought to myself that the adults that built this really understood the kid that plays with them. Love the mild to wild custom cars and the working suspension. The jewel like colors of the Spectra is the cherry on top.
@kenwinston22456 жыл бұрын
Enjoying your fun shows thanks 😃 about the skinny front wheels . . . Speaking as a fellow who was delighted to see the birth of these toys as a 5 yr. old could be, hot rods, dragsters etc of the era, HAD to have skinnys up front and huge slicks in back, unrealistic and impractical or not, they just had to, to be cool. Conditioned by the artwork of the day like Ed Roth etc. Maybe, but they knew what we wanted, and they really satisfied, nothing else like them. As fun as the older matchbox cars were, these were loved and coveted big time.

Another fantastic Redline restoration. From what you started with, the end result is a night and day difference. And RockitRod’s art is just up my alley...I collect Ed “Big Daddy” Roth art lithos and posters, t-shirts and anything Rat Fink...great stuff, as I am a child of that era, and vintage Hot Wheels when they were the hottest new toys to carry around and have a few in my lunchbox at school....Anyway, thanks for the video series...I’m always looking forward to the next one....

This is a very late reply, sorry, but my brother owns an original Light-My-Firebird in its original light bronze color -- which I think may be considered the spectraflame orange. White/cream interior, no. 7 stickers on the doors. You're probably aware that it's the Spoilers version of the Custom Firebird.
