Those intake bolts loosening (or appearing loose due to gasket or plastic compression) is a very common problem on the Redmax blowers. This also happens with the cylinder base bolts. Sometimes just tightening the cylinder base bolts won’t be enough though once they’ve been loose a while, and a new gasket or gasket maker will be needed. Symptom will be unstable running, unable to tune, carb mixture screw settings outside of expected or norms. I’d definitely get the blower you just fixed back in the shop to check the cylinder bolts. Also, where the spark plug wire comes up to the elbow, the wire will often rub against the red plastic housing and eventually cause a spark energy leak

You are 100% correct 👍🏻. I have seen the base bolts loosen up on a few of them but this was a first where it was not only missing bolts, but also had the wrong ones put in lol. Interesting advice on the spark plug wire though, I’ve never seen that before, but will definitely keep an eye out for that in the future.👍🏻

@@hester781 The spark plug wire thing is model year specific. There was a certain design up there of the boot and housing that was more prone than others, especially after the boot has been disturbed from new and not put back 100% right.

Thanks for this one buddy yep they always want to make you change bits instead of staying with a standard size fastener all around.

@@hester781 As for me, if I come across a 2T small engine like that and the outside fasteners are T27, at least I know I'm dealing with a pretty good quality machine. :) On the other hand, switching to Phillips inside is just plain stupid. At the very least they should have been 10 or 8mm hex! Maybe they're JIS. I have yet to get a set of those screwdrivers - on my list like the metric taps and dies. ;-)

My redmax blowers shut off switch on the arm won’t shut off the machine what could be wrong with it?
@hester781
@hester781 10 ай бұрын
Could be a couple of different things, but fairly simple to diagnose. Start by checking the wires and make sure everything is connected. Next disconnect, the two wires going to the switch and hook a meter to the switch wires and check for continuity when the switch is pressed. If everything is plugged in, and the switch has continuity when pressed, then you need to check the wires on the Machine side and make sure one is grounded, and the other wire is connected to the coil. Ultimately, that is all you’re doing when you press that switch is providing a ground path to the coil to kill spark. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.👍🏻

I have a 8500 ex shape. It Boggs down and chokes out at full throttle. I changed carb, all lines and filters. Started up but still Boggs out. Any thoughts?

Have you checked for a clogged spark arrestor? It’s a little mesh screen on the exhaust. It’s common for them to get plugged up with carbon and cause that exact problem.

Did we confirm the carb adjustment screw High / Low orientation?
@hester781

I did try adjusting the high and low off camera like I mentioned at 7:24 and I could get it better but it just wouldn’t stay good no matter what so that’s why I dug into the carb 👍🏻

@hester781 cheers, much appreciated! I'm having an issue with power rolling back and dying out after running for a period of time but everything you covered is in good order so I'm not sure if the carb is out of adjustment and is slowly flooding out or what is actually going on

@hester781 so this is fun, I replaced the carb, fuel filter, lines and spark plug on my blower and it ran like a dream. Took it to a job site and it was fantastic. Next job no start 🤬 3rd job no start and it was spitting fuel out the muffler. It proceeded to pull all of the fuel out of the tank, cylinder filled with fuel, muffler full of fuel... Why would this have happened? I'm baffled

Yeah, JD, to me that’s always a red flag - when you go to tune something and the tuning changes as you’re working on it or after you shut it down and then start it up again. Definitely an air leak. Luckily you were able to spot it pretty easily without having to set up a pressure/vacuum test.
