I too was struggling to get the band to fit properly. My advice is that even if it looks like it is attached, it may not fit properly, so push it back in again with force and you should hear it click into place.

It is shit design strap, and - I just got it today, I hate it. I may buy different type of strap from ebay.

I had the same problem after removing the straps. Once you put them in place, you need to push the silver piece against the watch. I managed to do it after several tries, it wasn't easy, but I believe you will succeed. Let me know if you still have this problem.
