Those 700 twins were great motors. Tip: Run a straightedge across the face of both exhaust ports and align both cylinders before you torque them down. Your exhaust manifold gasket will seal up better (assuming the manifold isn’t warped, which is fairly common…check that with the straightedge too!). I had the exact same sled. A great clutch setup is 200/350 spring, 287 ramps (hard to find these days), 18.5 or 19 gram pins, 52/48 helix, beige spring in B6. Use your clickers from there to dial in 8K, no more. Mine ran fantastic…miss that thing. Cheers 🍺

As a starting point with the TRA, generally it's the lowest clicker number you can get without bogging down the rpm's as a starting point,, that is where the best acceleration and best top speed will be found. If you find yourself at #6, to find the proper operating shift, rpm, spring and pin weight are two options. Also, the higher ramp numbers have progressively less "push" from the pin weights, due to the increased angle...more degrees less push, more rpm's, lower numbers, greater push in the clutch, lower angle.

Awesome work! good ending those are all fast sleds no doubt. One day I was finishing on tightening the suspension on my SPORT SKS and my cousin showed up and I noticed his Trail sounded very different... I was curious so I checked under the hood, he had his old still strong custom mounted 503 engine in the 488s place... and said he is tearing down the engine because it started to knock. 🤣 I was in awe and smiles because he done the same with a tundra body and a Galaxy engine though.I don't know how he does that kind of work 😁

I always left the exhaust manifold bolted on and removed and installed the jugs as a pair...it keeps them alighned to each other better. I did about 40 of them in 2001 due to a piston recall. People that didn't bring them in when notified usually ended up with a grenaded engine!

That is better, I felt bad for the Skidoo guys. I remember the SRX was good on top end and the 98 700 Polaris and 2002 700 Polaris XC were good performers until the firecats came around. I think Skidoo's 1999 670HO was their best 700cc sled back then. Polaris also had a 700cc triple XCR in 1998-1999 that was a good performer on the lakes.

To be fair, that AC ZR700 is basically running an old Wildcat 700 from 1991 :-) The Poo and Doo have more updated 700's. Honestly to be more fair, the Doo and Poo should race the 2003 F7. those 3 700 twins are closer in age to each other.

If it were a fan cooled the fan side is usually better.. On slop cooled, wear like that (assuming it was properly assembled) would indicate a carb imbalance, one side working harder than the other. Not many people spend the time to balance(sync) their carbs.
