This is a perfect video to show people who buy a new sled that they need to take it in after 500 miles for service. Every snowmobile manufacturer tells you to bring your sled in for service after 500 miles so they can check over the sled and address any issues. Your videos are great and always a good laugh. Keep up the good work and beer drinking.

The slop on the upper drive shaft is unforgivable , I have owned them all including a 2010 Polaris Rush that was a sweetheart for 7000 trouble free miles , replaced ONE driveshaft bearing and 2 high pressure fuel filters , Have an apex ltx and a viper xtx in the fleet , to Polaris defense on the non drain plug the reason is that they WANT you to have to crack case that way you will inspect chain and gears , makes sense ! Great vids as always.

I am looking at getting a sled after about 15 years, the new sleds scare me some. I am kind of leaning towards a used apex or something from the late 90's to mid 2000's that I can easily repair. The new sled prices are nuts.
@ericoverdorff8880
@ericoverdorff8880 Жыл бұрын
Four stroke Yamaha motors are bullet proof. They are quite a bit heavier than 2 strokes but if your riding groomed trails weight isn't a problem. Saya me anyway.
@davidbrennan5
@davidbrennan5 Жыл бұрын
@@ericoverdorff8880 I moved to southern Ontario about 6 years ago, mostly trail riding around here, not a lot of lakes where I live now. We really don't get a lot of snow. Sled would get used maybe 6-10 weeks out of the year. The apex seems to be the most bang for the buck. I can get a nice one for around $4500 coming from old early 90's sleds this would be a big upgrade to me. I was thinking a xc700 or a xcr800 or thundercat would be a lot of fun if I could find a nice one. I just want something snappy that has good top end.
@ericoverdorff8880
@ericoverdorff8880 Жыл бұрын
@@davidbrennan5 stick with the apex. Yamaha's quality and control department was on their A game when they were making those sleds. The fit and finish is second to none and the motor will still be running strong,,, just about forever. The bush plane circle has been using those apex motors in their airplanes. They are unquestionably reliable and make HUGH! Horsepower numbers when boosted.
@davidbrennan5
@davidbrennan5 Жыл бұрын
I am leaning that way. Stock hp should be plenty for this area. I could pick up 2 of them for 10k with a trailer. New sled would cost me over 20k, can't justify that for 10 weeks use per year. This area gets maybe 4-6 feet of snow max. I don't really need a light machine or a long track here.

The skidoo backcountry top wheels are loose like that to atleast on the 2021. They have the same setup on top wheels with the collar with the set screw. I loosen the set screw and push the collar over against the wheel seam to take up the play. My 2022 the upper wheels are tighter but still have little play. But the skidoo's have the cmotion suspension where it tilts side to side. You should check ur buddies backcountry top wheels.

It amazes me how many people just ride these things and don’t do any maintenance, it’s evident from the chain case, belt deflection and plugs that he hasn’t touched it since he brought it home, how can you fault a manufacturer for that. As for the wheels, if you ride them in low snow or dirt that will happen, the bearing is harder than the shaft and it looked worn to me. Again 1800mi. and no maintenance.

My body can't take the beating of a yamaha all day I'll tell ya that. That the biggest notable difference between the 2 is the ride quality. I've always found polaris to have a good riding machine. The only thing that wears out on a yamaha is the rider and his shoulders lol

@@jeremychippett905 that is interesting, I considered a few used Yamaha sleds but was gunshy when I came to the conclusion they were using modified motor cycle engines. I know they make quality products but most sleds are run hard and I figure purpose built two strokes might last longer.

Let's see now, so in the last 3-4 years Polaris had a fuel pump problem, a tank problem easily fixed with a piece of metal shielding and some iffy boogie wheels while Skidoo had seized engines, steering that seized by snow, bad breaks and constantly blown belts, Arctic craps burning to a crisp everywhere and the few that didn't had bent skids, pieces falling off everywhere and engines that never ran right, Yamaha has good engines, crappy electrical and sinks out of sight as soon as you turn off the trail. I think I'll stick to the easily fixed problems and choose Polaris. 😉😁

Hello Pete. I’m new to your channel and I’m enjoying it very much. I have a question and I’m hoping you can answer it. And that is, do you know what the voltage is from a generating coil? I have a 1996 Skidoo Formula 500 F/C and cannot find what the ACV should be,all that I can find is OHMS. Sure hope you can help. Thanks in advance. Karl. PS at this time I have no spark.

good day! and thanks for the support on the channel 🍻 honestly though I'm not too sure what the specs and proper voltage should be...I'd be in the same boat as you and be Google'n it to find out myself. all I could say is test stator for an open winding perhaps? no spark could be caused by a few things...stator kill switch, coil, cdi box...or even just bad wiring or loose grounds..hope that helps! 🍻

@@rednecksdirtyhands Thank you for getting back to me. I have checked the key,thether and kill switches and all connections,all good. I have installed a new decuati CDI from Royal Distrubiting. I have been checking on the internet and all I can find is the OHMS,nothing about ACV. I thought that maybe you would have or know where I could get that information. Karl.
