Good video Steven totally agree and excited to see what's happening to perfumery. My opinion is the same thing that's happened to the music industry through the internet is happening to perfumery. Eliminating alot of the middlemen and selling direct to consumer. I've formulated 170 ideas and currently have 4 fragrances and 2 I'm currently selling. Like an artist with a blank canvas I start exploring a vision that comes to me. Experience scent in a non linear fashion. Start seeing 3d objects and images that lead one down olfactory journey. Excited for you 👍

Wow fascinating video as always thank you, do you think that maybe the bigger companies are already working on flankers before the original hits the shelves or do they wait for some feedback to tweak that original scent ....it's obviously more complex than just mixing oils and I'm beginning to appreciate the artistry behind my collection...hope we get to sample your fragrance across the pond
@Redolessence5 жыл бұрын
It's my belief that they wait a bit before releasing the flanker. However, it's not uncommon for them to have plans to release a flanker before the original is even released. This is given the anticipated success of the original. Thanks for asking!

How many variations of a particular fragrance did the perfumer send you at a time? Were there any fragrances that were challenging for both you and the perfumer to get just right? Thanks for sharing this process with us Steven!
@Redolessence5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It all depends on the factory. For some I had two, and for others I had up to 4.
@AndyPanayiotou275 жыл бұрын
Great breakdown of the process. The way I see it, a lot has to do with the mindset of both the perfumer and the one commissioning the fragrance. The person commissioning the fragrance should have a firm grasp of what they're looking for but also an understanding of what's feasible without losing a handle on their initial brief. I guess it also helps to find perfumers with a familiarity with the styles and concepts. As for the perfumer, they're professionals but have to be careful not to get too pigeonholed into a niche they can't get out of and experiment.
@Redolessence5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for commenting, Andy! Very well put!

Hey Steven what’s your opinion on shelf life for fragrances? I am starting to build a nice collection now and got to thinking I wear some more than others but don’t want them to go bad after awhile. How many years do they last for? Or what’s your method for cycling through fragrances so they don’t go to waste. Because I feel like I can only wear so much and don’t want any to go to waste. Thanks man!
@Redolessence5 жыл бұрын
I believe that, as long as fragrances are stored properly, they can last many many years. Keep them away from extreme and fluctuating temperatures, exposure to oxygen, and exposure to sunlight.

I just read a few days ago that you have synesthesia. Do you feel that you sense differently for a fragrance that hasn't macerated versus after it has? I also think there's a lot of talk about maceration in the community but I feel a lot of it has been more on the side of hearsay ("let it macerate so it'll get stronger") . Will you ever delve into what changes throughout the maceration period since you've had to work a lot with newly-created fragrances?
@Redolessence5 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a great idea for an upcoming video! The maceration aspect doesn't affect my synesthesia. I still see the same colors and shapes. That's a great idea, nonetheless! Thank you!

@Redolessence5 жыл бұрын
David was out of town when I had one of the control groups. Otherwise, I would have included him! Also, in terms of the cost, an investment company manages that, so I don't know the exact figures. Thanks for asking!
@ahmadironmaiden5 жыл бұрын
@@Redolessence so, the longer a frag takes to make, the more it costs... Or is it a fixed contract with a set number of trails?
@Redolessence5 жыл бұрын
@@ahmadironmaiden It all depends on the factory, but in most cases, you need to sponsor lab hours. The longer it takes for a fragrance to be made, the more work the perfumer is doing thus making the fragrance more expensive.
