As always, our goal is not to declare a victor. This is about examining how a developer adapts a game for the Switch. We do not expect the Switch to outperform the Xbox Series X. Sorry, we forget sometimes that we need to make that clear.

That's largely because the tracks are way more narrow compared to FZero. In FZero you'll have to try hard to hit the sides of a track while in Redout it's basically part of the gameplay.

Thanks for the video. I think this is a great comparison actually as someone who owns the games on PC , I would also love to have them on the go, and there's very little content for Redout 2 on the switch. No content of the DLC tracks performance or post performance updates. People exaggerating on the performance and quality of these ports but honestly I can hardly believe this game is even on the switch, running so well. Could benefit from graphics options to improve performance, or at least a performance mode. Also, people commenting on the game likely without having any knowledge of it or without having played it. This can be a hard game to really get into, but oh boy, once you do - Redout is it's own beast.

Objectively anything that comes out for the switch will be worse then any other current gen consoles but i don't play Nintendo games for its graphics and performance is far more important to me then graphics.

@@johnmecca9008 I did, I loved it, though I much prefer Redout the original. it's just more stable, and you reach a point in Redout 2 where what's described in the video actually gets much worse and damn near unplayable. the dlc aren't optimized well either. there's loads of stuttering and glitches and confusing physics at high speeds, while Redout 1 uh, doesn't have any issues like that.

@@MG-mh8xp thanks for that update. I have been playing RO2 on XSX and OMG is it fast. With the Switch at half the frames and stuttering as you say, maybe I won’t get it now. Thank you

@@johnmecca9008 i do still suggest Redout, or even Fast RMX or Grip! The three are great, all run well, Fast RMX arguably looks twice as good as Redout 2 but with much better performance.

I really appreciate your balanced comparisons but let's be honest the Switch hardware so outdated now. after the PS4 Pro and especially the Xbox One X the Switch was already two generations behind in overall performance and hardware tech. That being said the Switch is still a great gaming device and has many great fun games.

Redout 2 and Redout itself are both wonderful racing games, and for Redout 2 it's amazing that it's on the switch in the first place. Redout could use some work but personally, I actually prefer it. it's smooth all the way through, the controls feel better, and I can actually beat the campaign without giving up due to the performance issues. Redout 2 on the other hand I couldn't get halfways through the campaign. ..I promise I'm not a performance nut, I literally play games at 20 fps all the time. Redout 2 is great fun, it's amazing, it's awesome, but you hit a speed and a point in the campaign where you're just too fast. the mostly stable 30 fps quickly turns into a 20 fps, and the game will absolutely stutter on boss tracks where they have to load in the entire map. the other issue is just the load times. it takes 30+ seconds to get into half of the races, especially races against other racers, and it has to reload every time you have to restart. it took me two months to start really caring about these wild ass load times though, but for others it might only be a few days. and while I can play most games at low fps's just fine, Redout 2 REALLY isn't the kinda game that you want 20 fps on, especially with the level of motion blur and antialiasing they use. oh and lastly, there's more than just texture issues, and lowered polygons. in fact, entire sections of maps are missing their lighting. Tartarus Mines is missing the lighting for an entire city. like an entire part of the track is just NOT lit up?? the ship select room is also not lit up properly, making it harder to actually see the ship and its details. I assume they just had problems porting the lighting engine over properly but it really sucks because loads of levels have completely different vibes compared to their much more colorful counterparts on other systems. choosing a ship color doesn't even change anything, because the lighting that does exist is so weirdly strong that your ship just changes to reflect whatever color the level wants it to be instead, wether that be black, blue, yellow. the only map your ship color truly shines on is Mars and that's it! Redout doesn't have any of these issues, and it should be able to run 60 fps on the switch HONESTLY. but it doesn't, cause it was ported by a very tiny section of the dev team, given little funding, and barely any love. I wish they'd take a moment to return to this to fix it up. Redout should be able to work fine. there are games that look better than Redout 2 on the switch, and Redout itself is much less graphically intensive.

Comparing the Switch to XBSX is like comparing a sloth to a cheetah....there is no comparison. The Switch is literally about 2-3 generations behind at this point. If you want to just test switch performance on it's own....fine. But do not compare it to current gen consoles.....no matter how good the port is, it will still run 10x worse than the current gen versions.

Fast RMX was 60 FPS on Switch and it was a launch title. I don't think there's an excuse for a fast racing game to run this bad even on Switch. Not a fan of using "it's a Switch" as an excuse for bad performance that is inadequate for the genre/game.

Even comparing the Switch to the Xbox One X is not a fair comparison. Xbox One X was released in 2017.

I would give the Switch atleast being a house cat instead of a sloth. Still slow compared to the cheetah.🤣 The Switch being a handheld and still give overall the entire game is a win to me. As my first play through, I played Witcher 3 on Switch and didn’t feel like I was missing a thing and it was great.
