I learned this after playing this game, but when the screen go red when you're going downhill, that's what's known as a redout; when the negative g-force forces all the blood from the lower part of the body to the head.

Great review! I've been a fan of WipEout and F-Zero for years and found some enjoyment in Redout 1, but was hesitant to buy Redout 2 with all the shouting over the difficulty, even post-patch. I went ahead and bought it anyway and have been totally addicted! Total newbies will struggle, but it can be done. But if you can handle the medium-hard difficulties in WipEout and F-Zero games, this game shouldn't be too much for you. Too soon to tell but this might be my favorite AG racer of all time (sorry, WipEout HD!)

I've been trying out this game and there are a few things I dislike. Mind you, I've played the first game and I think the on-track gameplay is great here. My complaints are all off the track, if there's a word for it. First, the fact that ESA is the only starting ship. Would've liked to be able to pick based on what I prefer, at least in terms of boost strength and duration since boosting is a strongly emphasized skill to master in the beginning of the career mode. The ESA can stay as the happy medium, but I'd like it if there are two more to choose from. One has a slightly stronger boost but slightly worse cooling (it overheats faster), the other has slightly weaker boost but slightly better cooling (it overheats slower). And then, put some kind of skill tree but instead of branching skills it's branching ship models that you can unlock. Second, no livery editor. I can live with using ESA's livery pattern at the beginning, but what if I'd like to change the paintjob from navy-orange to, say, white-red-black? Cosmetics, especially paintjobs, shouldn't be locked behind progression in 2022. Put an in-game currency system, and let us just buy them from the customization menu with the winnings collected throughout the career mode. Third, and I consider this minor, is they haven't realized the full potential of VERTEX's lore. It's a program, meaning creating custom tracks should be possible. Just add a track creator mode and allow us to share our creations. It's going to massively improve the game's lifespan. I mean, just look at games like Trackmania, Assetto Corsa, and Cities: Skylines. Those three have inherently great gameplay despite being rather old, but their respective communities have greatly increased the longevity through customized contents.
@ATribeCalledCars2 жыл бұрын
Hey Romi. All valid points that would be cool and may arise in the future. But I guess being a smaller studio means the scope has to be more limited or it would never take off. A track editor would be especially cool - it is also great for longevity in Hot Wheels Unleashed. Although that editor can be a bit clumsy...

This is my (nearly) entreé into the world of A.G racers. I have a GameCube with F-Zero GX, but never played it. I played wipEout 2048 on Vita several years ago, but didn’t get into it. That was probably… 2018? Now I have a PS5 and Redout 2 was recently released and I’m thinking this looks great, I love speedy arcade games like this (notably, Ridge Racer 7! 😂). Didn’t realise how SHIT I’d be at the *actual* gameplay, even with the “slowest” crafts - those walls and barriers are no joke 😂 And the controls are so close to a sim, it might as well *be* a sim 😂 Despite all this, I can’t resist going back in the hopes of improving and learning even just a *little* bit more of the track I’m playing so the next run-through is a *bit* better 😂 The path to mastery and refined skill is ✨ SLOW ✨ but that sense of progression *cannot* be sniffed at! 😏 👌🏼

Das erste Spiel hat mir auch sehr gut gefallen und genauso gedacht wie du, aber das zweite habe ich mir trotzdem gegönnt. Once you get used to Redout 2's superbly precise controls, you won't want to go back to Redout 1. The controls are what separate the two games. Redout 2 has some improvements like making the vehicles way less slidey, getting rid of the useless powerups and significantly streamlining the upgrades (no more incremental upgrades for four different versions of eight different vehicles). But the campaign for Redout 2 is one of the most bloated things I've ever seen, it's literally about 3X longer than the original and the game is insanely hard on anything other than the first two difficulties out of 6. It's honestly baffling to me that they make an absurdly long career mode PLUS a season pass when literally only 0.1% of players have gotten to the end of the main career mode on PS4/PS5. Also the multiplayer is still as redundant given there's next to no-one playing seeing as it's such a niche title.

Nah, Aero GPX is the TRUE F-Zero successor, considering it's literally much closer to F-Zero than anything else. Redout 2 though I think has potential to be a household name. It's got to be much harder than F-Zero GX.
@NeverduskX2 жыл бұрын
Harder than F-Zero GX? It took me years of my life to beat all four cups on Master to unlock the AX cup lol.
@angelpacheco16082 жыл бұрын
@@NeverduskX Yeah F-zero GX is hard as heck, but this is up there though. This game is more difficult then f-zero in some ways: A lot of the tracks are like mute city serial gaps to phantom road tier and they get used for time trial events - and you need to be perfect if you want to get gold. So this game can get really rough if you want all golds.
@NeverduskX2 жыл бұрын
@@angelpacheco1608 Do you like the tracks better than Redout 1? I've been watching a lot of gameplay from 2, but the tracks don't seem as wild or unpredictable (though I haven't experienced them myself yet). That might be because 2 focuses a lot more on constant boosting, but the creative track design is what really made me fall in love with the original.
@angelpacheco16082 жыл бұрын
@@NeverduskX I've been playing it for about 8 hours so far. You have to keep in mind the game is still very new, so a lot of the footage currently available tends to be from the early hours of the game - where you race on the easier, beginner level tracks/locations like Mt. Fuji or Cairo. But I have encountered some really tough and cool tracks like the Tartarus Mines (which reminds me a lot of fire field), and I have seen cool tracks from the Mariana trench and Cloud Ocean locations among others. So the tracks definitely ramp up in design as you get to the harder locations.
@NeverduskX2 жыл бұрын

Sadly, this game, like the first, is basically dead now. There were a ton of issues plaguing the release one of which was a seriously high difficulty for challenges and even some of the tutorials. There was a section of the tutorial that you had to beat to actually unlock multiplayer which side note, is ridiculous. But it was so difficult that players were essentially locked out of multiplayer. The skill ceiling in Redout 2 was high. Very VERY high and it ended up dropping a lot of players, myself included, from the game. For gods sake, the devs themselves had to lower some of the points required to win in the Speed challenges. The game had a lot of promise and it could have been great, but sadly the really high skill ceiling and the over indulgence of over 250+ campaign levels was just too much. If I could get a refund, I would. The game just generally isn't fun and the devs also abandoned it too. Last I checked, the season challenges thing for multiplayer still wasn't made a feature. Doubt it is now with how dead the player base is

@MentalEdge2 жыл бұрын
@@ATribeCalledCars I gave up on it back when it was Formula Fusion, and I've popped back in a couple times to see if it had become anything. It hasn't. Pacer has no sense of speed whatsoever, even the fastest class makes me yawn (not in the "too easy" sense). Watching the devs prioritize the wrong thing again and again got frustrating real early on. I can't believe the exhaust effect still has a static speed, the ships going 400kph and the exhaust is about as intense as if it were calmly puffing out cigarette smoke. It's such a perfect microcosm of how the whole game makes me feel. BallisticNG suffers from a similar lack of "feeling" when 2280 mode is not enabled (modern wipeout physics, also enables side-shifting), but it at least remains technically challenging to an extreme extent, even when played with it's default PS1 WipEout physics, though personally 2280 mode is the way to go.
