You have probably thought of this before, but the person who builds his own home will always see things he wished were better, different, more perfect, that no one else will ever notice. It comes from such an intimate knowledge of each step of the build. I would bet it's wonderful and fine. So Congratulations on your job well done.

I lost my Dad 2 years ago to be honest still not over it. But he had the same hopes and dream you do. He bought 75 archers of property in upstate New York. He got the house built then died of cancer and heart problems a few years after. But the most important of this he made his dreams come true, he died happy. I wish you could have met him. I love watching your families dream come true please dont stop making videos. They keep my memories of my dad alive. Thank you Patrick Arnold

Your videos bring me so much joy. You remind me so much of my dad. He was a master plumber and ran his families plumbing company for years. The things he taught me I never forgot. When my mom and I moved the house needed new toilets, sinks, and some electrical work. It dawned on us half way through we were doing all the work ourselves and didn't need outside help. I guess playing on construction sites as a kid has really paid off. And i hope he is looking down with a smile seeing everything he taught me stuck. Those skills are something a lot of people my age and younger don't have. So i truly thank you for this channel. It makes my heart smile.

A little line will not change the quality of your life , give yourself a break !!! You have built an amazing home for your family , a little line in the paint is , well a line in the paint , It will not affect the love that is in that space , you want it to be perfect , but , that will come with the love & laughter that will happen between the 4 walls YOU have built !!!

I'm a lifelong Drywaller/Builder.. and I'd like to give you a couple pointers.... Paint doesn't cure for 24 hours... if you paint your 2nd coat before it cures, it re-activates the previous coat and starts soaking in again... this is the secret... paint a quick thin coat (don't look back at the blotchiness) then after 24 hours it's ready for your color coat... it will require MUCH less material to get a good coverage.at this point.. now.... professional painters on commercial work will always have someone backrolling the wall behind the sprayer because it's nearly impossible to get perfect coverage otherwise since the lap marks have 2 coats where the non-lap areas have only 1 coat... this affects the sheen factor if you have a non flat paint... When backrolling make sure to work the area lightly at the end to avoid roller lap marks.. but it's what the pros do to get perfection without having to 3 or 4 coat the wall.... your work ethic is impressive and inspirational.... you deserve a great home for all the work you've put in... God bless
@eagleeye80395 жыл бұрын
Backrolling after spraying is what the pros do. Static electricity from the rolling helps it stick. Although cleaning the sanding dust with a damp cloth or sponge was crucial for adhesion too

To make a uniform surface they backroll. And they get the paint up there way quicker with a sprayer

I love how you took the back door and made it your own. My house has steel doors. Before we moved in someone tried to break in through the steel back door. It left a big hole and dent in the door next to the handle. My other half was wanting to buy a new door. I got some auto body filler (high quality I bought for my truck) filled in the hole and the dent, sanded it, painted it and now you will never know what happened. I love fixing and recycling useful things.

It’s so strange that it’s starting to look like a real house. Been following for a year and must say the whole build is is an admirable feat of will. Soon your beautiful family will be living in the house you built, all by yourself. I hope that you know how impressive that is and sometime take the time to lean back and just enjoy looking around the house that you have made. You should be very proud of yourself, I am sure your family is.

Don’t know of the technique as back roll, I’ve done quite a bit of industrial painting with a similar paint pump in the past and yea. Couldn’t agree more. Back right off and give it a fast “dusting” when your done. Anyone ever painted wheel rims silver and gotten grey lines/patches. Do that and they disappear 😁

Back rolling each wall after spraying will take care of those lines. It’s an extra step but those lines can drive you crazy after awhile. Especially on long ceilings and walls. I prefer a 517 tip with my Graco on interior walls. The larger fan sprays make it tough to pinpoint how far to hold the gun from the walls. I love the videos! Keep them coming.

The house is looking great! I'm getting really excited for you guys! 😄 A couple tips: buy an 18" roller and have Cedar help you paint the entire house in one shot. Spray 1 good coat of PVA primer and then 1 coat of paint without back rolling. Then on your second coat of paint, one of you spray an even coat and the other back roll close behind with the 18" roller. Just make sure that as you back roll, the roller doesn't get dry or build up too much paint. You will get the best finish possible with this technique. Your ceilings (especially the kitchen/family room) are going to be the hardest to hide imperfections even with back rolling. That's why many people use a good ceiling paint, which is more work because it requires masking walls to define the edge between walls and ceiling paint. Better to have 2 coats of paint and 1 coat of PVA than 2 coats of PVA and 1 coat of paint. Satin finish will wear better in the long run, but will show wall imperfections more. Eggshell will hide more wall imperfections, but wear more from "living" in the house.

I'm sad you plan on making the kitten an 'outside cat.' Google it some time - they don't fare as well as indoor/outdoor cats (i.e., they can come in at night). Other cats and predators are ready-made sources of injuries, infections, and death.

She is imprinted on him like a baby bird. She has chosen. He should feel honored. Let's hope he listens to the cat people here. Get a litter box and keep her indoors every night. If you keep her in until 8am or so, she'll be fine roaming around outside during daylight hours. Just hold her evening feed time until 4/5pm - she'll be waiting to come in the house for the night.

Really glad to see some paint going on, and keep plugging away on drywall and paint, the spray lines will fade, and you don't need another coat. When trim is up you'll be happy with how it looks. Love that you grabbed a real door for the back, and even some of what you did w/it..but not the distressing of it, as you must have forgot you have kids..things get 'distressed' soon enough by them ;) Do finish the bathroom though, w/a proper door and sink(even if it's a temp. one,w/just cold water), and it will help get you in faster. Don't think of "all that you need to do" set the next important thing on the list..and do it, you'll move so fast once drywall and paint is done. p.s.,get kitty a sand box, make sure it knows where it is, maybe 2 of them in opposite corners of the house..it will use them ;)
The kitty cat is so cute; you finally have a helper.

I use an extension on the spray gun to spray the ceilings. make sure you have a good pattern with out stringers ,or heavy stripes on the edges of the spray pattern. increasing pressure helps to make it so you don`t see lines caused by stringers. try to spray continuously. everytime you let off then on the trigger it makes the chance of splatter more likely and makes for more over spray.

You are too hard on yourself Heath. You are doing an absolutely amazing job and everything looks great. It’s hard being a perfectionist isn’t it 😘. I know doing the drywall has sapped your enthusiasm somewhat but once you get all the door framing and skirting done, the kitchen installed you will be able to see the home straight. Then it’s over to cedar and the kids to make your beautiful ranch into a home. Anytime you feel a bit bogged down with the monotonous jobs, take a look bak at your vlogs and see how far you have come not just with the house but the land, water sourcing, drains, solar panels, kids playhouse, chicken run, site clearing, thinning out the maples etc etc. I’ll share one of my favourite motivational quotes- “The only time you should ever look back is to see how far you have come “. Love to all from a wet and windy scotland. 🤗💕🏴

As others say, it's best to roll behind your airless spraying to ensure adhesion. The other big thing with those systems is you MUST clean them effectively - usually with solvents after flushing the latex out with more water than you think you'll need. They are great systems, the biggest complaint is the time it takes to get them clean and that you need about a quart to half gallon of paint to prime it up to your gun (depending on hose length).

The Graco sprayer did a great job, looks good. When your sanding and spray painting, put the kitty like up stairs and block her in so she won't inhale the dust. Their lungs are sensitive. As far as a litter box, try using hardwood pellets for it's litter box. Just scoop out the poop, then pour the box in another box with small holes drilled in it. You can sift the wet pee sawdust into a container to dispose, then put the remaining pellets back in it's litter box and add more pellets. This is a really cheep litter box over buying kitty litter. There are some KZbin videos on it too. I have been a cat lover all my life. I have only indoor and only outdoor kitties. I Love them.

Great job on the house, you're doing, the lines are because you used an eggshell finish, this happens frequently. Ams also if you use a matt finish you will see very few imperfections. Any wall or especially ceiling finish with a sheen on it shows up every bump and undulation. Try a wipable matt finish on some other parts of your house, you will be surprised at how true it is. Sir, from the video, you have done one heck of a professional job building that house. You should be really proud of yourself. With the cat, get a litter tray and scoop any accidents into the litter tray and keep it in the same place. Use bicarbonate of soda on the accident areas to get rid of any scent and that should help with teaching her to use a litter box. Rinse the box with water once a week, this will keep any odors down below what we cal smell but dont erase all smell with cleaners as the cat will lose the scent and start having accidents again.
