Yeah, they have an adjustable, centrifugal clutch-like system so when the engine reaches a certain rpm the shoes for second gear engages and first gear is just free spinning. The gearing on these cars is very tunable. You can change the first gear pinion, second gear pinion, first gear spur, second gear spur, when second gear engages, and when the clutch engages coming onto throttle. The amount of setup changes and possible combinations that the drivers have to go through till they find what works best is more than I could handle. There are a few videos explaining this stuff. I highly recommend that you watch Jilles Groskamp. He has some videos based on the things I mentioned and has a very good explanation of how the things work and how to adjust them according to the track you’re on

They have 2 speed transmissions, some have only 1 speed.
