Just a heads up for your viewers- thermostat housing cracks is a common thing and super easy fix with a $28 part and quick you-tube video, but make sure you order the redesigned beefier unit to avoid having the same problem down the road. They reinforced the plastic at the bend,so the difference is visible. Also, for those who live in areas with bright hot sun, make sure to treat and protect the plastic cowl at the base of the windshield. Besides fade, it becomes brittle and cracks. Door hinges fail and stop holding the door open. Ask my left lower leg how I know. Still, it's actually been a great vehicle overall, and the only vehicle I've ever owned that I'm still in love with. At 7 years old, it's also the longest time I've ever kept a vehicle. One last thing- from personal experience. Not all WK2’s are good or bad. Some owners get lucky, and have very little issues over very many miles, other owners aren't lucky at all and get one that has nothing but issues. That, my friend, IS a "Jeep Thing"

My WK2 has 112,000 on it. 12 years old. Since new it’s needed 4 parts replaced: - blower motor - blend door actuator - a/c condenser / trans oil cooler (1 part) - windshield cowl (rubber strip) The blower motor wasn’t dead, but like you said the pressure wasn’t strong enough it cool the rear, but once I replaced that, the car cools down really quick and the pressure is really strong. I bought the Mopar version on rock auto for $130. I change all fluids every 30k miles, alignment once per year, and filters once per year. Oil changes every 4,000 on the dot or before with factory full synthetic oil (Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic, and I use MOPAR parts and fluids), except for shocks and brakes. PowerStop and KYB respectively for those. Love it.

You're my "hero of the day!" I saw a local ad for a "killer deal" on a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland just like yours. I owned a 1996 Grand Cherokee until 2021 when I sold it to a mechanic friend of mine. I miss it, and I wanted another, newer one. I was actually thinking of going to the dealership and driving this Jeep, and then I watched this video. I'm not sure I want "Jeep things" back in my life at this stage. I could just wait a year and buy a new one with a warranty. You may have saved me $20,000 with your honest review. I have had to replace my transmission mounts, oil filter housing (more preemptive to ensure the original plastic housing does not crack), rack and pinion and ignition coils and that is all. I have performed more but they have been for performance =, not repairs. I add an intake system, performance ignition coils and plugs, my brakes and a few others items but no issues with it. I truly enjoy it. My odometer is 134,400 now (3/26/2023) and I purchased it at approx. 74k miles in 2020 at the very beginning of the virus.

So thank God we barely made the it within warranty and they covered it, but it took them 2 months to complete. It’s been non stop electrical problems since about 65,000 Miles. Whether it’s the radio not turning on or not turning off. The touch screen freezing. The gear selector not responding to put it in gear. The blower motor for the AC going out and or the blower motor not activating until you turn off and restart the car. Too say the least, we’ll never buy another Jeep. It’s a shame cause the Grand Cherokees are really beautiful cars that are fast and ride nice. But it’s been a bad experience.

One of the rocker bearings broke and was moving up and down which can wear down your cam. It took me 2.5 days to do, and was a pain in the ass due to hard to reach bolts etc, but following videos online I was able to get it done before any wear on my cam and got rid of that ticking sound! Yes my AC went out but I have I had at the time car shield, I paid $100 a month for the platinum deal and I took it to a car shop they wrote up the work order. All I had to pay was $100 for my deductible and CarShield took care the rest. When I went to get an oil change months later, they noticed that my boot was leaking in the front right rack and pinion was damaged again they put the work order in to car shield. I paid my $100 deductible, and CarShield took care of the rest. Those are major problems that go wrong with a car and cost so much money but I didn’t have to pay anything but $100 for each item the whole AC unit and the boots and struts shocks all that stuff in the front. They fixed it and I only paid $100. I have a 2017 JGC Altitude with approx 79k miles on the 3.6. Battery voltage began fluctuating between 10v and 16v on idle, with intermittent flashing of the dash console, but none of the interior lighting or navigation/infotainment panel. Battery reads 12v at rest, but won't start without a jump. One instance of power loss while driving, with no increase in RPM while accelerator is compressed. Then, suddenly received these dash messages: "Park assist temporarily disabled" "Steering assist temporarily disabled" "Place vehicle in park or neutral and restart to reset transmission" (Vehicle was in park when all of these messages signaled. Jeep sat for a week while I tried to figure out the issue, jumped it just to keep juices flowing and as to not cause any memory issues, no engine light, no warning messages, no power issues, ran like a champ. Battery still reads 10v to 11v with engine off. Dash reading showed strong 14v on idle. Haven't checked the aux battery yet as it is under the passenger seat and well, time. All voltage checks thus far have shown no indication of a trickle drain anywhere. Fuses all look okay. Any suggestions? Saw a video disabling the ESS via fuse removal and grounding of auxillary neg terminal to bypass/disable but I hesitate on this as it seems to also disable remote start. Single parent on limited time/funds and cannot afford to be out of a vehicle for much longer. Out of warranty and still under financing. 😢

Check engine lights are for things affecting emissions. How does the thermostat trigger a check engine light as it has zero effect on the emissions process?

@onlyonecannoli3952 Жыл бұрын
@@LJsGarage That makes more sense. Thank you for the clarification and thanks for taking the time to document your experience. It was very helpful!
@jameseast403310 ай бұрын
The thermostat is critical for emissions. If the thermostat sticks open it takes the engine a long time to reach operating temperature. Emissions systems are based on engines getting to operating temperature quickly since a cold engine requires much more fuel to run efficiently(think choke on an old vehicle-the computer basically adds more fuel in order to make it run properly until it warms up thus increasing emissions). The engine computer monitors the coolant temperature and if it consistently runs cooler or doesn't reach operating temperature on a consistent basis the check engine light will come on.
@onlyonecannoli395210 ай бұрын
@@jameseast4033 I get what you're say, but I have run vehicles in the past without a thermostat for short periods and that didn't result in a check engine light. It just takes longer to get to a proper operating temperature. That is, of course, important in colder climates as it affects the viscosity of the oil and can lead to premature wear or engine breakdown under extremely low ambient temperature ( e.g. -15 degrees). However, in my experience, I have never seen that affect the emissions system leading to a check engine warning. The O2 sensors, catalytic converters, EGR valve, PCV valve, defective Mass Flow sensor, bad plugs, crack vacuum hoses, etc., are far more likely to result in a check engine warning. But I have an open mind, if you actually experienced a check engine light as a result of a thermostat, and were able to independently confirm that as the cause, I would really like to get all the details to see how that actually happened and why that was the case.

I really didn`t have any problems until I hit 100,000 miles on the car. At 100,000 had a misfire code, went ahead and replaced the 6 spark plugs and coil packs for $150.00 my cost. At 115,000 Thermostat code failed and an aftermarket one and replaced for $ 40.00 my cost. At 130,000 Replaced all brake pads and rotors for $ 300.00 my cost. At 140,000 Replaced fuel cap code, easy fix for $ 30.00 my cost. At 150,000 Replaced the driver window switch from the plastic buttons breaking off $ 50.00 my cost. At 160,000 Had to replace a bent door actuator under the dash for $ 30.00 my cost. At 175,000 the oil pressure sensor failed code, do I go ahead and replace the oil cooler with an aluminum one $ 120.00 my cost. Honestly, if you have tools and are willing to do the work yourself it can be done. You can find a lot of how-to's on KZbin. I can take the intake manifold off and get to the oil cooler or coil packs in 30 to 45 minutes. The oil cooler job for me only took 2 hrs. from start to finish. I think the transmission ( in 2014-2022 models) is 8 speed. My 2016 has the check engine light on for about two weeks now and the turn signal when turn for right turn does not cancel. At 92K miles, it runs fine and I agree with you that it is a great feeling and driving SUV. They are roomy, quiet, and drive very smoothly, and they have enough weight that you feel secure in them. Never felt the transmission acting up, you described. I do all the maintenance myself and so far it has been easy. Will tackle the turn signal assembly ($450!) change myself soon. On so many V-6 these days, the intake manifold is in the way to get to one bank of plugs.

@@LJsGarage Dude, I’m telling you. They might not even know about it. Mine got better and better each time I filled it up. I used standard ramps on passenger side, once trans temp cooled to 86-100*F and filled it until it came out. Drove it around for a few days and made sure it got passed 160 so it goes thru the cooling system. Put it back on ramps while below 80* to make sure fluid hadn’t expanded and was able to add almost another half qrt. I didn’t even wait until it stopped dripping and just put fill plug back on and it’s been perfect ever since. Doesn’t slip at all. Idk why they designed it that way but you really have to fill it up otherwise you’ll get that slipping feeling. I also don’t know why these trans fluid change videos don’t give updates because there’s no way theirs wasn’t doing the same thing mine was. Note: I changed the pan that has the filter in it too so had to let it cycle thru. Just keep adding until you can’t once lifted on passenger side. Make sure you use the Mopar 8-9 speed even tho it’s pricey af. I got it from the dealership. Lmk if you ever get around to doing it! It will get rid of the slipping feeling!

Hey, just found your channel ... GREAT video !! I own a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, and I to LOVE the thing .... NO major problems (thus far), but I hear ya about some of the maintenance issues ... Headlights were a B*tch to replace, ... so I did replaced ALL interior and exterior with new QUALITY LEDs ... Hopefully, never a prob for me again !! Oil changes are simple, even recently did a Coolant flush and refill at 70k miles ... One thing I miss in this vehicle... a CD player , ... Yup (I am older than you are ... LOL Thanks for posting !!

The Wobbles that you’re experiencing is one of two things warp rotors or improperly Balanced tires Rotors will wobble when brakes are pressed at certain speeds an imbalance tire or tires will wobble at all speeds good luck!!!

I had a 07. Needed minor stuff here and there but the condition of motor (no engine light) sold it at 310 000km and I was not nice to it in sandy beaches. Northern Canada snow fields

The Grand Cherokee with the Pentastar V6 and the ZF8 transmission is an excellent, reliable vehicle. That engine and transmission combo is very good and should be very, very reliable.

Engine and transmission are fine it's everything else around it I talked about.

@@LJsGarage Engine and transmission are what makes it go. The rest of the stuff is ancillary. Like you said, the vehicle never left you stranded. I've had mine for six years now and it hasn't had a single issue. It has never been in for service. Nothing but normal maintenance so far. Oil changes, tires, brakes, and a new battery. Oh, and I just got new wiper blades.

You ever seen any dried antifreeze under the water pump? The parts guy at the dealer said there was a note that seepge is normal.

I love the Jeep Gc summit and it was a nice drive, but he’s right I had to get rid of mind because of the electrical issues. Stay away unless you get a warranty.

That's what I'm trying to tell those who think ah it's a jeep it'll be easy on the wallet because it's "American". Some are strong and need nothing but oil changes but most repairs have not been cheap if I were to take it to a shop.
