I’m thinking of getting one, are there any cons so far ?
@FullOnWizard5 ай бұрын
@@mohamowail1220 I don't know whether these would be deal breakers but my boot and/or the sun roof is a bit rattly going over speed bumps and such (there are simple fixes for these which I haven't been bothered to do, my last car was a Commodore so I'm not fussed by rattles), and I would really prefer if it saved me turning all the driver assist functions off (the lane departure at least has a dedicated button). Water also tends to pool a bit in the body work behind the doors and under the hatch, which will leave dirty deposits when it gets rained on and dries out, so get yourself a bottle of good waterless wash to spot clean these areas. Lastly, and I don't know whether this is worth mentioning but this is not a car for the fuel economy conscious. It has a small tank and should be run exclusively on 98. I say that because it is a high performance luxury car, going fast and being fuel efficient won't happen here. Knowing all this, I would still have bought this car if taken back in time. Then again, and again, and again. Oh and the factory bi-modal exhaust is a bit wimpy on note and volume for some (me) but I have a Borla catback coming this week to fix that. Otherwise I love it just as much as the day I got it. When you have a clear run to poke it in sport mode, it puts you back in your seat with a big smile on your face, where you can't, cruising around with the sunroof open and tunes cranked on the stereo will never fail to make you feel cool as fuck, and I'm an awkward, highly strung weirdo. It's also girlfriend approved, the heated seats have been her happy place all winter.

Long term Stinger GT owner. Bought with 24000km, now is 7 years old and has 70000km. Whats gone wrong? Trim faded, replaced under warranty. Room trim paint cracked, replaced under warranty. Had turbo pipes fixed under recall, and a leaking sump fixed as well. Nothing has broken, its never missed a beat. At 7 years old, the headlights are now showing signs of sunfade, and the black plastic on the bonnet has some fading. But other than that, its bloody sensational and I still love it. If there was a 2025 Stinger, I would have it under order....

I am going to make it simple for you all. I am a Stinger GT owner i actually lost my 6mnth old 1st 1 in the recent floods here in Queensland. I didn't hesitate and re-ordered another 1 brand new as mine was written off. I have worked for a mechanic for nearly 2 decades now and i can tell you for a fact that Kia is 1 of the best vehicles on the road now. The best are Camry, Hyundi I30 and the Kia's. As hyundi own's Kia is not surprising that quality of both now is thru the roof. The Korean car makers are hitting their stride like the Japanese makers did in the early 90's. I have had service from Kia that is second to none, was a easy decision to make as 1 of our 28 year vet mechanic bought the 2019 Stinger. No better car add then a mechanic personally buying 1 for himself convinced me and i could not be happier. My new gets car here in 4 weeks i cannot wait, i did wait for the 2021 model initially because of the changes compaired to the 2019 model not the same car. I recommend to anyone if you are going to do it get the Twin Turbo save ur pennies. I went for thee top of the range full GT TT but a GT line is just as good as you have all that matters up front. The GT tho is a deferent experience has everything u could want in any up market euro pos. Now for those with a bit more cash, then the G70 is for you Kia has a luxury range now like lexus is for toyota and the G70 is the Stinger on steroids. It has a slightly bigger 6 3.5ltr with the twin turbo's. It will blow any top range merc or beemer off the road with its quality and power and is 1/2 the price. I priced up the new BMW Grand Coupe which released at the same price as the Stinger to match the Stinger performance wise the crap i had to add to that beemer doubled the price. IMO all those cars you are buying a badge and nothing more they are shit vehicles.

I can confirm that BMW (and Benz) are not what they are marketed as. I've actually been to the factory that does some of their critical parts, and after talking to the tech person in there, I now understand why the Germans call BMW Bayrischer Mist Wagen: "Bavarian Manure car". Unfortunately, people buy into the marketing, where BMW and Benz spends oodles of money. Granted they ride nice and some look nice, especially the interior. But luxury should mean not having to break down and not being able to drive your car. As for the Hyundai group, they're trying. They just need to get past the engine fires for some of their models.

@@szotakandrei Oh i did not know that mate. Well that sux, me personally i could not justify going the the G70 from the Stinger but that's a shame their service network is shit over there. I have nothing but praise for Kia servicing here. Even tho i can take it to work and service it there for about 100 bucks less then what it costs me at Kia but i get 12 months roadside assistance added every service. So for the 7 years of warranty i get free roadside assistance here its RACQ after every service. Now if i paid for RACQ myself and serviced the car at work it would cost me more then just going thru Kia as their service price on the Stinger is capped at $500 bucks and $800 for Major's which is your 40,000km and 80 i think.

Proud owner of a KIA Stinger GT, so called top model of KIA (please go to last sentence if you want the short version). I have owned may new cars in my life and had never had so many issues with any of them but when I had issues I was serviced properly and got a courtesy car for the time of not having a brand new car. I understand that 3 year I would not class as brand new but anything between 1 and 2 year and less than 50,000 km I would. 7 year warranty is only as good as the service they provide and what does it help if I cannot drive my car because it is in repair because of manufacturing faults. A few things I came across from brand new, paint chips like glass. The smallest stone will leave a damage (compared to my previous car which I had for more than 4 years), in 2 month I had more stone chips than in 4 years with my Mazda 3 SPS25. Bought a used 19 RWD GT. About 45,000 miles later almost nothing needed fixing. The top Roof rails needed repainting and Kia covered it under warranty. I am starting to get the brake shimmy. Altogether very pleased - daily driver, super fun. Lots of interior room. I came from a 15 Genesis V8 and the performance is great. Bit stiffer ride but you get used to it. Going through tires a little quickly and I am not a burn out guy but I’m stretching for things to tell you. It’s been a great car for me.

Dear AK. I've watched all your "redriven" clips and I love the overviews you give ... thank you. I have been involved in the industry for many years, and in particular the detailing of cars. You often mention leather in cars becoming shiny on the steering wheels and seats as being gross and I have no doubt they are. My point is ... any cheap leather cleaner/conditioner usually fixes the "grossness" in less than two minutes. I'm not sure it's a valid part of evaluating a cars interior when it's probably the main thing that never gets properly cleaned in the cars lifetime. I'm sure many drivers eat greasy things too, when at the wheel! That's all ... keep up the good work ... Simon

A friend of mine, who manages a KIA dealership in Texas, recently bought a bright orange used Stinger. Although we both laughed at that being his mid-life-crisis car, he absolutely loves it. The Stingers apparently don't have a lot of the mechanical and quality problems that plague so many KIA sold in the states. Having driven it myself, I can attest it's a really fun car to drive. As a 60 year old man, my chief complaint would be it's a bit on the cramped side, but then again, the Stinger is a true sports sedan, not a family sedan.

Nice video! I purchased a new 2018 HiChroma Red Stinger GT1 in the U.S. and love it to this day! The most fun car I've ever owned. It has never been in an accident and I just reached 40K miles. I don't drive aggressively, but the steering rack has been replaced twice and still makes a slight groaning sound only when turning right at low speeds. The paint is a weak link. It pits easily, even on the sides, with regular highway driving despite parking in a garage and regular washing and occasional waxing. The rain gutters' paint and sealant are crackling, which is a complaint I've heard from other Stinger owners. I have never experienced that on any other cars in 50 years of driving. Kia dealerships are LOW rent and just scored dead last in J.D. Power's rankings of 16 mass-market brands. Other than that, love it:)

I’ve owned my 2018 GT2 for the last 3 years (65k miles) and I’ve got to say this car impresses me the more I own it. I’ve quite literally have had zero mechanical issues with it. The 3.3T engine is beyond underrated and bullet proof. I recently took it for a track day at Summit Point Raceway where it ate up 15+ runs back to back with even a dent on the engine temp meter. The torque produced by the twin turbos is almost instant and really just kicks you back at a launch. The AWD system legitimately makes the car feel like it’s on rails on the racetrack, such confident chassis control that does exactly what you ask of it. It placed very competitively at 12/30 and was 2 seconds behind track ready BMW M2/M4s, on old All Season tires may I add! (my Pilot Sport 4Ss didn’t deliver in time) I could have absolutely shaved those sections off more with the better tires. The interior is fantastically designed with great care in material choice and assembly, none of the components squeak or rattle to this day even when pushed on (couldn’t say the same about modern Mercedes). The leather has held up and aged very gracefully over time, though that could be because I use higher end cleaning products and keep it in the garage. I’ve seen some used stingers that had horrible shiny/sticky leather because they probably used Armor All wipes to clean the whole thing. Some pats like my steering wheel get a bit shiny with use but over all everything stays in that nice matte leather texture. Tech wise the Stinger is great even these days. The infotainment system is easy to use and the media controls are very intuitive. When I got my car it came with a pretty ugly looking UI on the infotainment system but in 2021 Kia came out with a free installable UI update that majorly modernized the UI. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto works without a problem. The drive modes are definitely my favorite part of the car. Sport mode clearly changes the throttle response and tends to keep the car in its power rang where the turbos can immediately produce boost, it also stiffens up the steering and suspension dampeners for more precise maneuvering. Putin it in Comfort mode turns it into a calm gentle cruiser and rolls onto the power much smoother. Eco mode doesn’t do anything to save gas in my experience…maybe 3 mpg gains on long highways. On the AWD model the modes also change the power bias to each of the axels, sport mode 90/10 split, comfort 60/40, eco 50/50. There are a could things I wish Kia would have improved. Starting with the paint, my car is black (which is already a hard color to maintain) and the paint is very soft, prone to chipping easily, and scratches just pile out of nowhere. I’ve heard others have has issues even with other colors and wish Kia had used better quality paint, so if you can afford get a paint correction and ceramic coating or paint protection film to keep the car looking fresh. The front bumper gets especially bad. Secondly, when I first got the car it was way too quiet, mind you I don’t like crazy loud exhaust systems but you couldn’t hear anything coming out of those exhaust tips. I opted to upgrade to a cat-back ARK exhaust system that set me back about $2k but it is the absolute best sounding exhaust system you can get on the Stinger. Very mature deep tone that allows for subtle back firing sounds. Absolutely worth the investment over the cheaper Borla/MBRP options. An Air Intake also helps liven up the turbo sounds more as well. You could go the extra mile and do a mid pipe but in my opinion it might get obnoxious since the Stinger doesn’t have any sound deadening in the trunk area. My next go to will probably to get upgraded sway bars as at the limit the car rolls a bit too much more my liking. Overall it’s an outstanding car that Kia probably never needed to put so much effort into but we’re all so glad they did. They created a super practical hatched sedan that checks all the performance boxes for a fraction of the price of competitors. The look shock on most muscle and euro car drivers when this thing pulls equally or passes their cars is the best feeling ever. Very few people know about this car and it’s so much fun to show them what it can do.

I use my 2019 GT1 as a daily commuter from Sarasota to St Pete and absolutely love my Stinger. I purchased it with 9k miles off a two year lease and have 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty. It has been super reliable and fun to drive. I have a great Service Rep that keeps it tip top and have had it serviced regularly; new plugs at 40k and fresh Michelin tires every 25-30k miles. It’s a little expensive to maintain but is a performance car so that is expected. Now have just hit 70k miles and it looks and runs like new.
@IRoYaILTY2 жыл бұрын
I bought a GT1 brand new in 2019. It honestly was a great car. The low end torque they make has them punching above their class. From a stoplight it’s a rocket ship. Also very nice inside with all of the bells and whistles offered in more expensive cars. I was able to get nearly 30mpg on longer road trips and with some bolt ons, e30, and a tune it can keep up with most cars you run into on the highway. Also nobody seems to know what they are so you’ll constantly get asked about it. I needed a truck for work so I ended up selling it 40k miles later for only 6k less than I bought it off the showroom floor. If you’re looking at buying a used one I would suggest 19-21 models and to keep in mind the ones that came with all season tires from the factory are electronically limited to 130mph. Also some people complain about a “sun roof rattle” and rotors that go bad very quickly. I never had those problems in mine. Also the side skirts are notorious for getting damage when being put on a life so make sure you ALWAYS take before pictures when dropping your car off for service. Definitely worth the price point.

My brother bought a lightly used Kia stinger gt2. After about a year of owning it he started having transmission slip issues, and then couldn’t get it to start. He had it towed to a dealer to be worked on. It took the dealer 8 months to figure out why it wouldn’t start, and another month to figure out why it wouldn’t stay running once it finally did start. They ended up having to replace the whole entire body harness, Tcm, and ecm. In their early attempts to fix it, they also had replaced the push start button and starter relay. The 9 total months they had his car they didn’t even give him a loaner car. Mechanically the car has been fine, but electronically it’s been a disaster. This probably isn’t the case with every stinger, but it made me change my mind about getting one.

Nice work, great review! I had one of the first in the country (Sep 2017) for just over 4 years, awesome car - upsized due to 3 teenagers now and wanting to do road-trips etc. I certainly didn't get the kind of $ number you were suggesting for resale In terms of issues, yeah I had the rear boot issue, easily resolved. Good tip re: forums info - I had diff noise early on (sharp turning when cold from driveway) and from the forum I sourced a Tech Service Bulletin that I used to (hello! wake up!!) get the local dealer to learn about and resolve. Diff oil change reqd, different viscosity. Reqd a lot of effort to make it happen (early adopters, you can thank me later!) I suspect the diff failures mentioned would 100% be related to this. Finally, the brake shudder issue referred to ... I don't think this issue actually comes out of 'spirited driving' - I never took my car to a track (previous vehicles yes, so I 100% understand the comment) and my car never experienced any serious downhill twisties etc. So I do think there's a brake issue with the set up. It came and went with relatively gentle driving.

It is my daily driver and has more than enough power, the transmission shifts great, Brembo's excellent and the handling is sublime. This is a Gran Turismo and not a sport car, but I'd definitely categorize it as a sport sedan. Most everyone thinks it is just drop-dead gorgeous - what a beauty! If buying used... I would be very careful buying one of these used, however. People mod them by putting piggy-backs on it and running the boost and timing up. Right now there is a guy on one of the forums who is getting his short-block replaced, and he bought it used, and suspects 'foul play' regarding mods by the previous owner. Moral of the story, make sure to get the car checked completely before buying including getting a compression and leakdown test to ensure the engine is good.

We love our stinger. We have a 2020 US version and have driven it 24,000 miles. The only expense other than maintenance was an alignment after hitting a large pothole and popping a tire. I was a bit nervous about a KIA, but so far, so good. Not one defect, mechanical or visual. The only drawback is frequent visits to gas up. And when you gas up, be prepared for inquisitors. People are drawn to it and want to ask questions.

It is reliable when under 80000miles. And problems will start coming up after that just like most of the European cars. If you live in Asia or Europe your car will never reach 80000miles/100000km bench mark in 10 years so the Korean and European brands are popular and reliable. In the US a car can easily reach 80000miles in 2 or 3 years, so reliability in the US becomes a different story.

Seen this car at work and for the longest couldn’t figure out what car it was when I found out it was a Kia I was shocked, currently grinding dasher and my full time job to save for one! My new dream car.

Bought it 2019 premium RWD and I love it! Huge jump from my 2008 Honda accord I’ve had for 6 years.

I have a 2022 Stinger GT1 with about 22,000 miles on it and it's been absolutely solid. I have had a relatively simple chip tune (RaceChip GTS), upgraded spark plugs, BOVs, oil catch can, and K&N Typhoon dual cold air intakes since the car had probably 1,500 miles on it (had to get it through the break-in process first). Let me tell you, just those few relatively small improvements make a HUGE difference. Like you said in the video, these care are very tune-hungry and increase in performance dramatically even with smaller mods like I've done. I live in Arizona and even in the summer heat, this thing will spin the rear wheels through 1st, 2nd, and sometimes into 3rd gear if you stomp on it and keep your foot planted. If you finesse the accelerator more to keep traction, it's a rocket. I don't race much, but I have beaten a couple of Mustang 5.0's and even a Dodge Challenger 392. The Stinger truly is an amazing car and it's a shame that 2023 was the last year for production 😢

My 2019 Stinger GT2 has been trouble free and a joy to drive and own for the most part. No squeaks and rattles. My 19 inch wheels were replaced with a square 255/35/r20s setup. Comfortable, well specced, practical and still turning heads in 2022. It replaced my 2015 Lexus IS350. No regrets.

2018 GT2 AWD here with 30k miles. No issues except the brakes. Replaced them with cquence discs and pads. Having the recall done in a couple weeks. Fingers crossed they don't mess up a good thing.

Great review, I own a 2018 Stinger GT for just over four years, and I love it more than ever, you mentioned if your information is incorrect or missed something, well I have two for you, you mentioned the Stinger is a Bi turbo, it's called a 3.3ltr V6 twin turbo, not Bi turbo, and the yellow Stingers that had paint issues, the paint is called Sunset Yellow, and not Sunrise Yellow.

I enjoyed the 90s radio edit, brings back memories, l have not listened to radio since about 2005 so that was a proper walk down memory lane, thanks for that.

I finally picked up a 2019 GT in Jan 23. Amazing car, excellent performance and very comfortable particularly on longer trips. I had the brake shudder issue which was resolved with aftermarket pads, the stock rotors were ok to keep. I've had quite a few 'badge snob' mates take a seat in it and they came away impressed. And the Ceramic Grey paint with Red leather is a beautiful combo. As you say, you go out with a budget of 50k AUD, what else can you get?

Is the brake shudder issue specific to a particular model ?

Thankyou for this review. I've often thought about what I will replace my current car with eventually, and had somehow forgotten about the Stinger. This just reinforced my desire for one.
