These are brilliant. We have had 3. All 1.5 manual. The first lasted 550,000km , the 2nd was crashed at 280,000km and the third is still strong at 290,000km. The only common fault is that the rear wheel bearings need replacement at about $200,000km. One had the rear brake drag fault once but otherwise been bulletproof. Tyres and the odd new battery. Perfect first car or great cheap transport. Oh and the space is nuts. I once picked up a single bed mattress in the jazz. And I have used the magic seat upright for things - eg suitcases and plants.

The engine struggles to give me enough oomph on hills, but nothing that can't be addressed without just pressing the accelerator further. Love this car. The Magic Seats, alone, are worth the price I paid. Still under 100,000km!

Everything else checked fine. I sourced another reo bar & bolted it on. It was auto but it had the flappy paddles. For a tall bloke like me, it fit me well & the space is unbelievable. The only problems they've had is that replacing the headlight globes can be a pain & parts from wreckers can be hard to find. I've never seen it have rust but when they got it, I got cavity wax in all the areas where rust can occur. Driving it around town & parking is so easy. Highly recommended for someone who wants a small car but isn't a car minded person. Servicing them is a doddle.

After that, I just couldn't bear to keep it. However, my adult daughter bought a Jazz in 2018, and still drives it daily. Her husband is a drum teacher, and a drummer in a band, and the Jazz swallows all his gear when he needs to go to a gig. You are right to say that the 1.5 litre engine is the one to go for. I've owned a 2012 fit for a couple of years. My last car was a '95 Civic hatchback. The Fit has grown on me. Pros: Many... including wide and low access through the rear hatch, phenomenal visibility (no blind spots)+high seating position gives good view of traffic in front, small, but still big inside, reliable, cheap to run, easy to park. Cons: Main gripes are fairly high roof, which makes loading things on a roof rack much more difficult. If you plan on using the roof for carrying stuff, consider this! Also, I got a particular model where the paint is cracking and peeling from all plastic parts (side mirrors and rear spoiler) which is too bad (there was a paint recall I think, but I missed it. Also, I think they should have spaced the gears apart more. In 5th on the highway, it revs at 3500 which isn't great for gas consumption (gear selection hurts gas consumption a bit) and the higher revs mean the engine is noisier when driving at higher speeds than it needs to be. All in all, I think the '95 hatchback was a more refined (i.e. Evolved) design than the 2012 Fit, but I think the fit holds its own quite well compared to other "modern" small cars.

I have two jazz/fits, a first gen GD and a third gen GK. I’ve owned a lot of different cars and these are some of the best allrounders out there. The GD has really short gearing (3100rpm at 100km/h), and could do with some more legroom (I’m 6’4”) but it’s more fun to drive than a GK, it feels more like a classic Honda. The GK Jazz is more comfortable. A good compromise is the second gen GE, same as in this video. Change the spark plugs regularly (especially in the twin spark models) and do an occasional valve adjustment and these cars are bombproof.

Just in the mode of looking at a new vehicle vs spending money on my 1994 Suzuki Vitara, manual, only has 160,000 kms on the clock. Great wee vehicle for river crossings and off roading. It is very straight. So not real off roading. And is very tidy. Does have a few scratches here and there. But for a 31 year old vehicle, you'd expect that. And after watching many of your reviews I am on the fence about buying a $30k car. Only reason I'd change vehicles would be the Suzuki isn't that comfortable on long road trips and lacks grunt. Still a good vehicle though. A bit of a step down comfort and power wise from the Colorado. I had to sell the Holden after having an emergency spinal operation in 2023 and haven't worked since 2017 after a work accident and am still waiting on original knee operation so I can get back to work. No ACC support or income sucks. This is NZ. Still in recovery. Awesome presentation Adam & the crew we never see. Cheers team.

My mother has had one since 2015. Downsides: 1- Stability: It is way to light, which makes going on a highway quite troublesome. 2- Our part where it says how many kilometres we have of fuel it's wrong. It sometimes drops randomly so we never know how much gasoline the tank has. 3- Our speakers in the back never worked idk why. 4- Clutch, According to her, it is really hard to keep pressing on the clutch on a good level. 5- Acceleration, it accelerates in a small space, meaning that it starts quickly but ends too early 6- Our car is red and the paint on the left side is now pink, so try to not buy a dark car lol Positive points: 1- Responsiveness 2- Brakes (My mother says that they have gotten worse with time but it is the perfect car for city's traffic, where you stop and go and stop and go iykyk) 3- Reliability 4- Space (My mother has brought in that car 3 pieces of furniture twice, once she even went on the highway with it. We call it little matchbox for a reason😂)

We own a yellow 2009 Jazz 1.3 automatic, and the kids absolutely love it! We often get waves from children, and my friend’s kids adore that little nugget too. We bought it in 2018 for $7,500 with about 75,000 km on the odometer. Now it has 135,000 km. My wife drives it, and although it has plenty of bumps and dents, I keep fixing it with body filler and color-matched paint from Supercheap auto. From 10 feet away, it still looks pretty good (it’s not worth taking to the panel beaters. It's hardly insured for $3800). The car has zero mechanical problems. We service it every six months. We had to change the starter motor but found a new Bosch one for cheap on eBay at around $120! Besides that, we’ve only changed the tires, brake shoes twice, and the rotor once. We also put in genuine Honda transmission oil around 100,000 km and added a cheap Chinese Android head unit and reversing camera and sensors. The car drives as well as the day we bought it. It’s a joy to drive around winding roads, and I think it will easily last another 100,000 km with regular oil changes and general maintenance. It’s mostly driven in the suburbs for shopping, school, work, and gym-mostly short trips. We get about 9.5L/100KM, but we’ve driven it to Bathurst, Hunter Valley and Central coast many times. I think the 1.3L engine has to work very hard, so we get almost the same fuel consumption as our CRV with a 2.4L engine...which gives about 10L/100km.

That is cute about the kids waving, do you know whether the Honda Jazz uses timing belt or timing chain? What was the most expensive service you ever done for the Jazz. Planning on buying one soon.

@@cambodianfighter1060 Nothing is really expensive on this car. Look after it and it will look after you. We change oil/filter every 6 months religiously on both our Honda vehicles. 2 Years ago transmission oil was changed.... so that's good for another 80,000km I think. tyres replaced last year ..around $450..oh and I also got front rotors changed recently i think that was abt $300 or so. I told my mechanic that I am looking to buy a replacement for the Jazz ....said I will probably buy a Gen3 Jazz when it dies. He laughed and said - it won't die mate. He reckons it will last another 10 years easily! If you are planning to buy one - i would recommend the one with 1.5L engine. It will probably be a bit more efficient as it wont have to work as hard as the one wiht 1.3L like mine.

@@MrNep2une Thanks for the reply, from what you said about the costs it doesn't seem bad at all. I just managed to buy a 2014 Jazz Vibe S 1.5L with 120,000km so the transmission fluid needs to be done. My previous car was a 2015 Volkswagen Golf TSI with just 140,000km and the transmission mechatronic unit which my mechanic told me was a known issue for Volks and Audi was stuffed and the cost to fix it was $5000. Never touching another European car again.

@@cambodianfighter1060 Congrats on the new Jazz! I used to own a VW Golf MK IV abt 17 years ago. Although it was fantastic car to drive, it was just too expensive to maintain and replace any parts. No more Euro for me as well.

Great review, I just want to point-out that the Jazz is available with a 6-speed gearbox, at least with the i-Shift, speaking of which, I love how it shift to the 6th gear when cruising starting at 55 km/h, it's really economical and quiet for mid-range speeds - the fact that the driver doesn't have to precisely gauge when to switch gears means that it often changes gears at lower RPMs, which is great in all occasions except when going uphill in city driving, but you can always change to the manual mode.

These things are amazingly reliable and have an incredible amount of space for the size of the car. The cvt on the 1.5 is fun with the paddle shifters. Highly recommend 👌😎

I've had a 2015 manual Jazz for more than 5 years, and... I do love this car for a budget car with an incredible boot, but: - it is quite thirsty for its weight class (usually hitting ~8.7L/100km in city driving) - it seems like the ventilation passes the engine or something, because it has never blown air at outside temperature, even asking mechanics they've said all working (air conditioner works okay) - Servicing probably around 500/year, could just be me not being savvy enough with service centres though - 2015 model only has one glovebox - Some flickering occurring on the radio/reverse camera screen, still works fine but minor issues But for the price and with that boot space... nothing can quite beat the Jazz.

Quite fancy the Mk3 Jazz 1.5 VTEC in sport trim when I get rid of my Cadillac BLS ( Saab 93 ) or my wife DS3 . Several things putting me off is in the UK you won't find any owners under 70 & the 1.5 VTEC really hold their value in the UK. An early 2018 with minimum 60,000 is over £10,000.

After 6 months looking for the best bang for Buck around town reliable small second hand car that could hold enough gear for camping I bought a 2013 Jazz Vibe! Driving 1.5 and 1.3 manuals around town were almost zero difference and the later upgraded gen2 is much harder to find in 1.5 manual, most are Auto. The Jazz Vibe is 1.3 and Jazz VibeS is the 1.5. The later upgraded Gen2 1.3 is closer to 1.4 than 1.3 with increased HP over the earlier 1.3. I was sold on a Honda CRV after your( Along with many others) reliability reports but so was everyone else it seems because good ones are pretty hard to find especially with the amount of backpackers using them for traveling around Australia You cant guarantee the correct service history! Thats why I swapped to looking at the Jazz/Fit and it wasn't a mistake! look for one made in Japan as they were also made in Thailand for Australia and if your not freeway driving everyday the 1.3 is good enough! Getting an average 6.7L per 100Km,s stop start traffic around town but am sure the 1.5 would be the same.

I have one and I’m watching this video feeling very smug. It’s nice to see a recent video on the GE
@MotoringBoxTV6 ай бұрын
I'm not sure about the GE, but with the first-gen GD there was an additional interior config which Honda called "Refresh". You basically take the front seat headrests off, and then the front seats could recline all the way back and essentially fold flat with the rear seat base. I guess the idea is you could then sit on the back seat with your legs all the way out, or you know, lay down with a friend.......

Yep, I've commented in his older Honda CRV review that the CRV does the same thing.

I bought a first gen GD Jazz vti-s as it was cheaper than fixing my Subaru's head gasket and it was one of my favourite cars I've ever had. I got it at 200k kms and put on another 70k of hard driving after I modded it with suspension, wheels and a full exhaust system and it never gave up, still had the original clutch at 270k. Also the best part of the car was even though it wasn't fast, the way the 1.5 vtec engine revved, it had a boost of power from 5krpm to the redline unlike most other cars which drop off up that end so it was as joy to drive. The only issues I did have were coil packs - very common and especially if cheaper spark plugs are used and the roof leaked at the back of the rails, a bit of silicon fixes that, both common issues. I've got a Fiesta ST now and while it's has so much more performance it's no where near as practical and has more rattles as the jazz, also the stock suspension isn't comfortable at all.

This is a little late for me. I just bought a 2005 1.5l manual Jazz earlier this week. I'm moving soon & needed something a little bigger than my motorcycles to carry boxes & stuff & the Jazz fit the bill. And while it's not as fast as my Aprilia or KTM, it's nippy enough to pull away from most traffic at the lights & is a hoot around corners, even on the skinny stock rims. I was going to use it for a couple of months & then sell it, but it's so much fun to drive & was so cheap to buy that I'm going to keep it.

I just went to a music festival with 2 friends and myself with a ridiculous amount of camping gear while also getting use of my rear view mirror. Love the car, love it to bits.

It's the 1 thing putting me off buying 1 to replace my Caddy BLS or wife's DS3. Were in our early 50s. If I do buy 1 I want the 1.5 VTEC sport with 130bhp.

After watching Jim, if you have a 2005 and get CVT shudder, a $125NZ transmission fluid change including the Honda additive will 100% fix it. Totally and utterly gone. Then we just keep it up when servicing. And sounds like our caliper might have been the rear? it cost $175NZ to fix from memory. Best car ever made.
@christopherjohnston63436 ай бұрын
Fluid change only helps up to a certain point. They're meant to be regularly replaced anyway - like 2 years 30,000kms or whenever the shudder returns. Cars that have been neglected or driven harder can end up With a permanent shudder that fluid changes can't fix.
