Ive had my 2013 manual Colorado for 11 years. I put an aftermarket head unit with car play and reverse camera in it. That has been great. The ute has been all over Australia, and towed a lot. It doesn't burn oil. It has been faultless and very dependable.

We bought one new in mid-2018, an LS 4WD manual dual cab, 48,000km on it now, barely run in. It's great. I did have a weep from the transfer case. I rang one of the service guys at a local dealer Ross Granata at Mudgee NSW (after GM had pulled the plug on Holden the dealer we bought it from had closed their doors). They said "Bring it in and we'll have a look", then he asked how many k's, and it was something like 32,000km, he said "Nah, I'll book it in under warranty. Bring it in and we'll do it." Couldn't ask for better service, all done under warranty. Throttle response is a big laggy in low revs. Pulled the back seat out and put a shelf in. Indicator tick...if you leave your earplugs in you can still hear it, there's no mistaking the turn signal is working. Exterior black plastic will fade. I've had no issues with the AV. Engine is great, uses no oil, change it every 5,000km. Run a Provent catch can and no EGR or DPF issues. Airbox still holding up.

I have a 2017 version dualcab trayback, 6 speed manual in poverty spec (no carpet on the floors even). The thing is surprisingly reliable and capable offroad. Headunit was the first thing I ditched (replaced with a Kenwood). It's been reliable as hell, does a fair bit of offroad (I've fitted both front and rear elockers) and is GVM upgraded to 3500 (due to me running a canopy with all the goodies). One thing you missed, you can actually get extra cup holders for the front. They slip into slots under the airvents beside the doors. At the time when I was looking (bout 2 years ago) comparable year *anything* else was near $10k more. Driving wise, I threw a throttle controller into it, which has made a load of difference as well. Wasn't ever expecting the thing to be sedan comfortable, but I've thrown plenty of km onto it and not had complaints. As for power etc? Lugging 1.5t of boat across Inskip to the ferry without issues says somethin (altho not driving like an idiot helps there too haha). Overall I'm happy with it. Does what I need without complaint, I just keep the services up to it, and it keeps on chuggin.

It was such a shame that HSV didn't get the opportunity to sell a V8 version of the Colorado. It was close to going into production and would have had the V8 installed at the factory in Thailand which would have kept costs down and considering how popular the Ranger Raptor is, it would have been a big seller. With Holden pulling out of Australia, that was the end of that project but fortunately there was one pilot vehicle made which ended up being sold to one lucky owner.

2014 LTZ 4wd bought brand new. Servicing items only and engine oil changed every 7 to 8k not 15K Basically no problems accept EGR and airflow meter. Outstanding as a work horse for heavy towing. Numerous trips towing 3 ton or more including big laps with Basestation . Engine is outstanding and very economical even loaded 15 to 16 litres average per 100k towing 3ton. Full blue tooth map system no longer supported. No transmission issues leaks or anything else. Everything is original. Surprisingly good off road but have fitted warn winch for use on the farm. Highly recommend fit All terrain tyres. The engine oil must be changed regularly the 15k service interval is not recommended. zero oil consumption. The engine is very robust with forged internals but its basically a small truck engine not a sports car engine so I keep rpm in peak torque range 2100 to 2900 and select manual when making big climbs towing and dont push it too hard just let it climb at its own speed. So no its not a Y62 but it also will use far less fuel doing the same thing when towing heavy loads. My payload is over 1 ton and with longer wheel base and stiffer suspension it handles high towbar loads easily. Stuff doesnt sway with the greater lateral stability of the heavy rear leaf setup. While GCM is 6k the truck is much lighter but has a longer wheel base than most. So you can tow 3.5 ton and 10% ball load no problem. 3 ton is however better which means really you dont want to tow say a caravan with a tare of any more than 2.5 ton because that tare weight does not include water in the tanks or your food beer or gas for cooking.

I drove a 2019 Colorado king cab for 5 years as a work supplied vehicle and the vehicle previous to that was a D Max in poverty spec where the seats were just two flat pieces of foam and very uncomfortable so the Colorado seats were comfortable although the foam in the squab was starting to deteriorate as the carpet under the driver seat was littered with little bits of foam. When descending a hill a message would appear in the dash cluster "gradient braking active" well it may have been active but it did nothing. The 6 speed auto transmission (not my choice) was stone age for descending a hill the car would shift down every time I applied the brake and on reaching the bottom the car wouldn't change up again but would rev it's tits off and had to be shifted manually. Holden said there was nothing wrong with the transmission. The ZF transmission in my much older FG Falcon is light years ahead of whatever was in the Colorado. After about 80K was on the odometer the Colorado suffered from numerous plastic vibrations and at certain speeds with lots of buzzing in the dash and door plastics. Because mine was fitted with an after market canopy the fuel filler neck was at an odd angle so I had to fill it holding the diesel nozzle on it's side and I had to listen to the diesel fuel rushing up the filler neck when full and hopefully catching it before it spurted out as the nozzle would not click off automatically. Long tyre valves had to be fitted because the factory ones were inside a sort of wheel cap and really hard to get the valve caps off. As noted in the video the less said about the Mylink system the better. The headlight switch defaults to auto headlights and as I did work in parkland areas if i parked under a large tree in the middle of sunny summer day with dense foliage then the headlights would come on. The motor was often at idle because I had flashing beacons operating but didn't need the headlights on too. My vehicle only had halogen bulbs and if one blew at night as they always did then a message would appear in the dash cluster telling me a bulb had blown and yet I could see that I'd lost half my illumination. So I wondered if Holden thought that only partially sighted people drove cars. After a car service I had to remember to adjust the oil life display from 25% to 100% otherwise in a short space of time a message would appear in the dash cluster say the oil needed changing. Mechanically other than the auto tranny I had no real problems with the Colorado although plenty of stupid Nanny issues whereas others with the same trim spec had no end of problems so it really was a "role of the dice" as to whether you got a good one or a bucket of sh*t. The Colorado has now been sent to the government auctions where all our vehicles go when we've finish with them. I now have a new D Max which has it's own set of problems with it's idiotic IDAS system.

Door to Door is exactly 800km And is always got a load on board regardless of direction. So hers is a 2012 RG Auto with the Jeep engine, no noticable Turbo lag like a Pajero I used to live with which was downright dangerous such was the slovenly speed at which it kicked in. No gearbox shudder and I will provide a link to a couple of cool dudes in SA who will pull one apart and show you how they fix it. Considering where it lives a lot of the black rubber / plastic trim is now that central Aus red / ocre colour you look and you can see the red earth and how it has just got in to everything. Inside is actually fairly good all things considered although the 3.5mm jack and usb a connection are fairly rooted and we can only get the bluetooth good for making telepjone calls. Cruise control is good, when you can use it and yeah the roads... the suspension is probably a bit cooked but at 179km on the clock how long before it gets chopped in. Yes the headlights are piss weak but a couple of super large LED spotties make daylight so that problem solved. Headlights had to be replaced through UV degradation again after market lights were sourced but the bull bar had to be dropped off to change them over. This one seems to be a tough old girl even if the ants did eat the wiring under the fuze box so the car gets bombed to help remove unwanted wildlife who think it's a great place to live. Yes that's inside the cabin, back tub with cover and even underneath. Not so much of a problem in those urban environments. Gearbox video. back in the day everyone made fun of the VH Commodore powered by a 4 cylinder engine, now we have these monsters with a 4 cylinder, but no one seems to care.
@JC-zg4xe9 ай бұрын
Probably because the 4 cylinder diesels today are making more power than a VH commodore V8 ahaha

The commodore engine was 1.9lt petrol,just a bit different don't you think.

On an off road dual cab Ute testing the Colorado was the first to get stuck, the Ranger had to pull it free.

Would absolutely love to know how a review on this leads to not much go wrong with the engine, yet a car with the exact same engine, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Cherokee must be avoided at all costs…

Jeep have the VM Motori engine, Colorado since late 2013 have the GM version, slightly different engine, more power and torque.
@ktm690endurorally8 ай бұрын
@@geoffprothero9408 would be interesting as all information I could find seems that both have the A 428 DOHC motor from motori
@geoffprothero94088 ай бұрын
GM parted company with VM when they sold to Fiat, GM built their own factory in Thailand and took their design and modified it which gave it more power and torque than the VM version, LDV also had the VM engine in their early models.

I have the 2017 D/cab 4x4... The most cpmmon probllem is the gearbox shutter and thats caused by a sh##y Touque converter and the only way to fix it is to replace it with a Billet TC...

The reason it feels bit sluggish to go is if it's got electronic accelerator pedal little bit of time Lag in signal transfer 🤔 the old school accelerator cable system was much better and low maintenance.

Only Holden ute 4x4, 4x2, duel or single cab I would buy is a Rodeo those things as old as they are....there bullet proof....I have a mate that delivers fire wood and tows a car floats on a regular basis, I haven't seen a vehicle that cops that much abuse and just goes no matter what you throw 👍it's a series work horse....

Your mechanic needs to learn who makes the Colorado engine, hasn't been VM Motori since late 2013, after that they were built by GM in Thailand.

Own a MY20 Z71 Colorado, 190ks almost entirely towing a 3 horse float, great tow vehicle that hasn’t missed a beat. Dpf mount is shit had it welded a few times & leather seats also cheap and shit, otherwise great vehicle. BTW the interior is almost identical to the Chevy Silverado Z71 who also have cheap shit seats. Enjoy

Would never recommend a colorado after owning a '17 ltz+, 2 headunits that would just push buttons at random 1st one was smashed out of frustration, torque converter/trans issues even after warranty replacement of the converter shift lock issues leaving your key stuck in the ignition, leaking down the drivers side A pillar, the brakes were terrible and squealed constantly even after replacing all the associated parts, was generally a rough ride and the seats are like a park bench.. cant complain about the engine in my experience, that was good and theyre decent looking but dont do it to yourself.

Honestly driving a dual cab won't set your life on fire. It really is a work tool with some amenities. your average SUV will always drive better than these utes on the road. Unless you use it for work, business tax purposes or off road.

Well the auto gear box is shit. We had a couple at work basically need replaced and had less than 50k. They weren't towing anything.
