I'm pretty well over the whole "hold the value" debate. The true value in any vehicle is the experiences you have with it. Load a new vehicle with after market products, you'll never get that money back. Time and time again this very channel has shown that you can take a correctly prepared low budget vehicle to the best parts our great land has to offer the adventurous at heart. If you want a step to the side, choose the Mazda, learn a new platform, truly share new experiences with the consumer. If you want your backyard, just a bit more refreshed, choose the Hilux. Either way, you are Jocko, you are awesome to watch and learn from. Great show young lad 🍻🍻

The Toyota, Nissan, Isuzu show continues... It would be great to see more Tritons, Rangers, BT-50s & Navaras on the show. It used to be good seeing Stu's Triton pop up, as well as see the Rangers on every now and again. IFS is what are mostly used and what most people can relate too, so they should be appearing more on the show. The fact of only seeing the usual Toyota, Nissan and Isuzu on the show, is the reason why I've been watching less and less of the episodes. As well as seeing so many out of reach vehicles on, while good to see them, gets pretty repetitive. Do more in the mid range, where most people are, so that they can see what they can get and how things perform.

I have a 2010 manual mn triton with 200k that I picked up 6 months ago for 14k. Always wanted a hilux but similar year and km models were double the price of the triton (im 21 and simply couldn't afford it). I was hesitant to get a triton at first because of how people in the 4wd community constantly shit on them but I honestly couldn't be happier with it. Tough as nails on the tracks, reliable, comfortable, economical, and its never let me down. I have also never felt as though it is underpowered like Jocko says in this vid.

End of last year I ended up getting a 2014 triton. It may look like it's from 2005 inside but it's been great so far and surprisingly capable off-road. Downsides i've found are the suspension is a bit all over the shop and also the engine is a bit sluggish (easily fixed with a throttle controller though). If i had to choose again I would definitely still go for the triton, very reliable and capable. It would be great to see more tritons on the show, everyone knows that the hulix can do it. I would love to see if a triton can survive what you guys throw at it and what problems arise from being a cheaper car.

Got a 2016 MQ Triton glx+ as my first personal use 4x4 last year, just on 32" ATs. Was under 30k. I find the electronics pretty cheap and the manual box + the lag is pretty annoying sometimes, especially on extemely long drives, as it feels more underpowered than it is, but a throttle controller and tune solves that easy enough and isn't too expensive. Other than those small negatives, it runs excellent off-road imo and I'm confident it'll tour anywhere I want for the next few years, especially after I upgrade the suspension. I don't do much heavy 4x4ing, because I usually tour alone and pack her full of weight, but I've done a lot of deep sand and steep dunes without any ruts to follow recently and she ran like a dream. Personally, I couldnt justify paying the difference between a cheaper Triton and the more expensive utes for my personal needs and I doubt I'll need to upgrade for a long while yet. The used Triton is more than reliable enough to get me anywhere I want until I feel like something new. Hope this info helps someone.

4d56 2.5 DiD is quite solid to me. I drove the Mitsubishi from Brisbane up to Port Douglas with side trips on the dirt and back down to Mt Isa then ended up to NT during my holiday with loose bolts on the camshaft!!!, It survived, the motor is noisy and noticeable vibrations during acceleration then finally we completed the journey, arrived in top end safe, the following day we do check and open the camshaft cover and it shows hanging camshaft clamp! We though that the camshaft bends but its not! I am a big fun of Toyota but Mitsubishi proves tome that it is also reliable and strong engine on the road.

That gearing is sweet so for daily, work, weekend and harder its worth the hassel with the suspension. relatively easy on parts, often good price. And face it, you'll change up all either way. just for the gearbox I would go with the triton to match most boxes

Good video mate. A few things i believe are worth mentioning - The bt50 and Ranger commonly split intercooler cores not just hoses, inlet manifolds are 100%plastic, they carbon up very heavily and can split, egr coolers fail fairly commonly also and it is an engine out job to fix, the 6R80 auto trans are notorious for the clutches thumping and shuddering and failing, they are a tough looking rig that ticks alot of boxes but they are mechanically terrible. Also with the RC colorado or the RA rodeo which breifly had the 4JJ1 in its later years (07 & 08) it is actually entirely a TF DMAX, all engine and driveline parts are easily available from ISUZU and are actually cheaper from ISUZU then holden because you are going straight to the source

MN Triton gets a vote from me. That super select transmission is amazing and the sole reason we upgraded our MN to a MR rather than any of the other options. Other benefits of the MN is that it runs 3.9 diffs in the auto. The MR auto runs 4.27, making what should be a straight forward swap to get better final drive ratios with bigger tyres given the MR is a facelifted MQ/MN/ML in terms of chassis and basic drive line. If the tub is an issue, keep an eye out for a ML tub. Same shape body but the tub is shorter. Downside of a MN could be the “weaker” auto variant that required a de tune to 350Nm and the smaller 245/75r17 tyres if that limits how big you can go.

I love my N70 hilux. My brother has a Challenger(wagon model of the triton) and I have driven both. I find with the hilux it delivers the power in the more linear way and it is not relying on the turbo as much for normal power. Yes it has its issues but is easy fixable with some after markets products. 2' Lift, set of 33's, 50mm body lift, (front lockers optional) and you can go anywhere. Tried to do the job myself but after many cuts and curses (and nearly breaking my phone screen!) I had to hand it over to the professionals due to it's near impossible accessibility. Only real bonus was that you can get them from Ford over the rip-off price from Mazda. Key thing to note also is that the dash does not need to be removed to do it despite the pain involved. I carried a complete deck I removed on the roof of that rack into the forest, and I had that completely stock, no lockers middle of winter, stock rims with Maxxis ATs in deep forest where only bikes could get and many would come across me working on tracks saying how the fck did you get that in here and hell the how are you getting out, had some hairy moments I won’t lie and thought I’d lose my truck or roll over a few times, but a clear head no panic and use some brain meant I always got out without damage or even pin stripes, drive smart it’s amazing what you can do, btw I was on my own, no one else for back up spotting or recovery, looking back at times think it was a bit unsafe but I prepared and made the best decisions possible for the situation. Also if anyone wants to see what can be done with a N70 look no further than Kaino’s N70 from Drifta, I’d buy one again in a heart beat, a,so it’s a Ute, I hate this modern day bs of comfort crap and 50 cup holders style of reviews, it’s a truck it’s not meant to be a Bentley inside, I’d throw in some Stratos seats mud grabber floor mats, rip out the back seats and drive it like I stole it, btw you forgot to mention the options many of these utes offer, Dual Cab, King Cab/Extra cab some might call em, or single cab, you don’t get that with a 70 series. Some have butterfly doors handy for throwing in extra shit, personally don’t like SC as feel too cramped in seating for me, big long legs but I’m only 6ft still while for mine always be a DC or King cab. You may even get SC and King cabs cheaper as usually a Dual Cab is top price in any line. Also stay away from SR5s and Blinged up versions from factory you are paying for extra which is shite compared to what you can replace eg seats interior or wheels on a ST, or SR models, imo always get the base model 4wd in the line as long as the engine speccs are the same don’t waste your time on factory BS magpie (shiny objects) features that suck you in, that goes for new or second hand, that money can go a long way to building your Ute with real quality interior or exterior or engine components. Think about it…🤘
