Bought one as my first brand new car end of 2020 (I'm in my 50's). I loved that little beast and would go for many drives purely for the entertainment value. I fitted a Milltek exhaust and stage 1 tune along with a few other minor but useful mods. Overall I was very happy with that excellent little pocket rocket. I later bought a 23 BRZ and owned these two cars together for around 18 months. In the end, the BRZ earned it's place in my garage over the Fiesta ST - with it's RWD and driving dynamics it's simply the better car of the two imo but still have great memories of the Fiesta ❤😆 It all goes full circle - ended up selling it to a family for their sons first car. He's a happy lad.

This is probably my favourite car review I’ve ever seen. The insight from the mechanic towards the end is something I really appreciate as no other car channel seems to tell us this kind of information, so thank you. I’ve had a MK8 ST for just over 3 years now and the wet oil pump belt has been a concern of mine in the long term. I have the Performance Edition so hopefully if it holds its value well over time, the belt change might be a job worth doing. Great review 🙌🏼

I bought one of these last year and I bloody love it. It puts a smile on your face every time you drive it. I didn't know about the oil pump wet belt so you've terrified me about the FiST. I'm sure its nothing speed and power won't fix

Just make sure you use the correct engine oil and change frequently. Every five years or so, get a mechanic to open up the sump and inspect the condition of the belt.

Great video! Very informative about the reliability. have the new MK8.5 and love it to bits, so glad I managed to pick one up 😍. It's good to hear the 1.5L in the Fiesta's is decent. Pretty rare car now though, since Ford discontinued the lineup 😢. With it being a bit of a collectable now, quite a few people are keeping the MK8.5's relatively stock and trying to keep the odo down. The audio volume significantly reducing when reversing I actually think is a good thing - helps you focus on reversing/parking for a few seconds. I would definitely rather hear parking sensors instead of someone talking to help prevent a little crash. Love you're videos, keep it up!!

The engines are solid. I don't really understand why one oil pump belt and timing chain is such a big deal? Many cars have timing belts that have service intervals that cost much more to change than oil pump belt + timing chain on one of these. OEM parts from Ford including all gaskets etc. is well under 200€, and labour time is 4,5-6hours depending on the mechanic.

the 1.5L ST engine does not have a timingbelt in the first place. It has a chain. Early models pre 2019 have a geardriven oilpump. So absolutely ZERO belts. Post 2019 has a belt for the oilpump.

Hi ! So if I get it right, the Mk8 is more fuel efficient and has better perceived quality with a much better infotainment system than the non-Sync2/3 equipped of the MK7 ST. But the MK7 ST has better longevity for less money spend, especially if properly modified, isn’t it ? I love the Mk8 Fiesta ST since I first saw the articles and pictures. 😍 The driving dynamics, the performance, the engine sound, the fuel efficiency, the practicality for a single person or a couple, the price are spot on. It was my dream affordable car until I saw the engine issues and steering problems. The MK7 seems to make more sense has a longer term daily (except for ride quality) isn’t it ? Even if it isn’t a Lexus LS400 in the reliability/build quality department. What is as much fun for the same amount ? The I30N (I adore it ! 😍 Especially before the facelift) and i20 are 5000€ more on average. The Civic Type R turbos are even more expensive. The only cars from this available are the Focus ST mk3 and Golf GTI mk6 standard and the Edition 35.

I would really like to find one of these second hand but wonder if they really make much sense in Australia, particularly WA. Over here we don't have the type of roads that an ST is best on. It is all fairly straight country roads, highways and suburban boulevards. Perfect Falcon or Commodore territory here really. It is a pity. The ST would be perfect for the roads I used to drive on in the UK though.

Can Redriven do a review of the BMW Z3, these are quite old now but still numerous enough to still have quite a few on sale? I think these are going to become classics, especially the straight sixes. These were built when BMW still made long lived mechanical drive lines and are reasonable to repair at home (not much room in the straight 6 engine bay though). I thought about one of these as a mid life crisis project 😂.

Hmm, why is oil pump belt + timing chain maintenance such a big deal? I work for a garage, and had a look what OEM parts cost to do the job, and everything is dirt cheap. Timing chain kit + oil pump belt + some other stuff that's needed like front end main seal and valve cover gasket etc. total up to well under 200€. If its around six hours to change, it isn't that expensive - quite affordable really, and costwise not much more than a conventional timing belt job.

A 3 cylinder engine in the Fiesta ST? I thought it was a 2.0 turbocharged 4 cylinder...maybe I'm thinking of the ones sold in the US, or the previous generation.

Fiesta st never had a 2 liter engine en the US market. It was a 1.6.

Fiesta never had a 2L Turbo. No generation. First was a 2L NA. Second was 1.6 Turbo. Today it has 1.5L Turbo.

Time for the flashy, showy, incredible i20n to strut its stuff💙. Still loved your review and I do like this car, but for me it doesn't look quite hot enough (i20n owner here, quite obviously I suspect) 😊

i20n is a nice little rocketship but it's kinda like a naturally good-looking chick who cakes herself in makeup, it just looks like it's trying too hard. i30n on the other hand is understated with just enough visual cues of its potency. In my opinion

i dont like the i20N. Too childish for me, too much hot wheels vibe. But i guess you are young and that is what you want.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, love understated and love over the top, as long as it's done with a sense of humour 😊@@dom3827

Sure, it's a great car to drive, I do far prefer 5drs on my hot hatches & they got rid of the 500 buttons & switches. But it's still a modern Ford, basically the Ranger Company. Yeah...nah, pass. =)

Similar whinge to the numb bum: there are a lot of cars I would like to own but can't because of the shoulder bolstering in many modern cars. I'm just at the height where my shoulders don't fit properly and the bolsters push my shoulders forward which is agony after about tend minutes. This is particularly the case with sports models of cars, and the only way I could own them would be to have seats from the pleb models.
