Vintage game by Hendricks. Good to see him finish strong after the worst season of his career, due to nagging injuries that began two years ago. Even if he doesn't hang 'em up, he will be a lifetime Cub. He came up with the Cubbies, showing a lot of promise his rookie year, despite not being an overly hyped prospect. He was our most consistent pitcher from 2015 through 2021, only missing significant time in '17. He pitched far better than his numbers showed in 2015, not missing a start and eating innings for a young, surprising team. Was reliable and a mature presence through the championship year, saving his best for the playoffs (1.42 ERA in 5 postseason starts during that run). Through it all: the meteoric rise of the teams young core; Arrieta being the best pitcher in baseball in the last half of '15 and first half of '16; the injuries to the same core that won it all, crippling a chance to repeat; a global pandemic; seeing the entire core (except Contreras) getting traded for the next group; and, now, the up and coming core of this squad- through it all, The Professor has been there. Taking the ball every 5 days and giving us solid baseball, without big headlines, without electric stuff, without making a scene. Just a skinny, lanky guy with plus control and a sneaky good changeup, keeping hitters off balance and eating up innings. Thank you, Kyle. You will always be a Cub, a champion, and one of my favorite players in nearly 50 years of being a fan. 🫡💚 Go Cubs, Go!!

@billmcg1676 oh wow, thank you! One of the best compliments I've had in a while. 😊 Honestly, I love both: sports and writing, with the Cubs and this great game being my longest tenured affairs. I would take that job in a heartbeat. But, for now, the medical field pays the bills. Words like yours make me think about following dreams, though. It is, after all, never too late. Thanks again! 💚

Kyle's my favorite Cubs pitcher. Started a combined no-hitter a couple years ago on my birthday! In any case, appreciate his cerebral approach and his sportsmanship. Had a tough year and his endurance is down but he could possibly be useful somewhere and turn things around. He actually has gotten really bad run support in the last two years and, at times, really bad defensive support as well. So his numbers really should be a bit better. Good luck Kyle!

Nothin like winning your last game in a Cubs uniform. You’re going out on your own terms with a win. Thanks for all the memories and being a World Series champion. No regrets here. Enjoy retirement or whom ever you might play for next year. You’re a winner in my book.

Only fitting, that the final member of the 2016 World Series team pitched to a standing ovation. Kyle is a class act, and I hope he can continue pitching next year (not for the Cubs).

I’m 99% positive. He will not be a cub this year for a couple of reasons. 1. He is getting up there in age. I mean he’s 34 years old which in baseball terms is 60. 2. He had the worst record of his career this season so bad that he was briefly moved to the bullpen. 3. The Cubs have a new manager and a roster that looks like it should be playoff contenders and they should release Kyle Hendricks to saveup cap space

The Cubs Professor doing what he does...HOWEVER the REDS downfall has always been their poor pitching staff out of the pen If they get a great starter and they do well and keep a game close or scoreless, in comes the pen pitcher and the game is gave away. A scenario we see game after game, year after year and no manager change can fix that, it takes ownership willing to pay for Great pitchers and a desire to be a winning competitive team, which the Reds have not been for a long while now, just MLB's farm club. Develop great players and trade them off that is the REDS Forte

The state of the Cubs has never been worse. Loveable losers was fine, I was good with that most of my life. The shameful hoyer has disrespected and dishonored our traditions with his backstabbing of the manager who loved our team, loved our history and culture, and loved us as fans. The players all overachieved for David Ross who was the natural continuation from our World Championship. hoyers desperation to cut all ties from that glorious team is an embarrassment to us all. He has shown the league that he is a backstabber who should never be trusted. His word means nothing and no true talent will want to involve themselves with a person like that. If he had any hint of honor, he would have held himself to the same stupid standard he had for Ross, he should have resigned yesterday and handed in his keys. hoyer is a stain on Cubs history and the team must act in it's best interest, this person cannot serve as a member of our club in any fashion. After decimating our team and clubhouse moral by removing our true leader and heart, only to bring inb our enemy to lead our boys, they could not win a single game more. Ross had this performing as an elite team in the league last year at times and this season there were times they did not even have the basic fundamentals. With a real #1 starter and the addition of a real 1st baseman, this was clearly a division winner with Ross in the dugout. Shame on hoyer and shame on the Cubs. I don't blame council, except he was also honorless in accepting the role under the circumstances he did, but he doesn't care about the Cubs, it makes sense. It's 100% jed hoyer who destroyed our team and destroyed the rebuild that had come to an end as the finish of last season. Ross is still available and Kyle Hendricks would be ideal to enter the front office to replace hoyer. If our Manager, David Ross ends up with a different club, we will suffer the consequences for at least the next decade. Ths Cubs aren't worthy and don't deserve the support of this amazing fanbase after the horrific things they have done.
