I had been frustrated with the reel on my Euro set-up and when I saw this video I thought I’d give the Redington TILT a try. Bought it from you guys and, MAN, it made a huge difference. Yep I love the idea but it looks so tacky with the hige Tilt logo on it, plus the made in China sticker makes me cringe. Guess nothing is made in the US anymore

Sounds like the perfect reel for the Reddington 11’ Strike, which is hard to find a reel to balance it.

Yes, I think you put all 3 weights in this and you'll have no problem getting the right tilt on that long stick there. Should be a great match up.

@@redsflyshop With full backing, a RIO Euro line, and all 3 weights, the balance point is about 2/3s up from the bottom of the cork handle (just tried this AM). That 11’ is a tip heavy rod!

@@redsflyshop I’ll amend my previous comment after experimenting. The ideal seems to be to use just the lower weight. I’ve found this gives the best feel for the Strike 11’ and loses 2 ounces of weight.

Hi Joe. Great video thanks. And great reel - I got one for myself. Word of caution - the reel foot is very substantial in thickness and doesn’t seat well on the reel seat of my echo shadow x 3110. Have you had a similar observation? I might need to slim the reel foot down a bit with a file or something!

I can believe that, I haven't had that issue on other rods but do agree the reel seat on the X is super slim. Good feedback.

Yes, Jeff that's a great setup if you are punching a stonefly nymph or a larger anchor fly. This really makes it easy to cast and handle. Certainly if you are fishing small nymph, technical setups, and light tippets a long leader will help the sensitivity of the overall setup. It's a trade-off, but my testimonial is that anglers seem to move along a bit better with a slightly shorter setup.

Joe, if you get the chance to test the reel with either a full mono rig, or much longer leader (though I know you are leaning shorter) i would love to hear if any mono somehow escapes btw the machined parts. I had a Rise and quickly learned it wasn't going to work with mono; I then got an Echo shadow click - great reel but even with the full cage portion, mono can still escape. Would look to upgrade to the Tilt if mono-creep isn't a problem.

You won't have a problem with that on this reel, the guys that designed this are serious mono anglers. I tried the Shadow CLICK..... didn't personally care much for that reel. Totally worth a few more bucks to get this reel.

I've been using a Galvan GEN with 8# Mono RIg and it has never left the reel. I imagine most full cage reels are the same.

How much backing do you put before the euro line? Also I purchased the euro line for that same reel. Do I put it all on? Last question is how much would it be for a second spool just în case I want to do some indicator fishing? Or can you still indicate fish with a euro line?

100 yards is great, those lines are super thin so you'll need to bulk up the backing a bit. Pretty much like a normal fly line even though the arbor on the TILT is larger and meant to minimize the amount of necessary backing. You'll want it to be pretty full in order to take take full advantage of the arbor to retrieve ratio.

I’ve always wanted to try euro nymphing but I only fly fish very small native brook trout streams in pa, is there a euro nymphing rod that is shorter than 10 feet that I could use on tight technical streams ?

I'll stick with the galvan esn reel that's made in the good old USA 🇺🇸 if I'm spending close to $500.00 on a reel it better support American jobs. The sage esn reel is nice but I can't get over the fact it's made is south Korea.

Empty. Great question! It's a pretty heavy reel to start with in comparison to your average large arbor trout reels.
