An overview of how redstone works for people with little to no experience with it. I cover what it does, how to use it, and a couple intermediate designs.

i know very very basic redstone stuff, but not enough to build anything cool. with the help of a friend, i built a secret door that opens when you place a redstone torch in a certain place on the wall, stays open when you take it down, and closes with a button on the inside (there is a second of each to get out), but he explained nothing of what he was doing so i learned nothing from it, which was the whole point of me trying it. this video was incredibly helpful to me. thanks!

I'm so happy I understand all this. Just from minecraft tutorials, I have learned how cpu's, alu's, and ram work. I took that knowledge, and recreated it in little big planet 2. So now I have a working computer in one microchip in lbp2.

And gate was my first and favorite logic gate :D if you use a various amount of them, you can make some very advanced contraptions! Like a code that you have to put in using levers to activate a door or piston :D

at 5.00 you could just put a simple 2 block pulser that is 2 blocks with red stone torches on two opostite sides and redstone wiring running o the block in between and out on each side and it has to inputs and 2 output= very efficient

I already knew this stuff, and still great stuff! You do so much, and do a lot of work with just Camtasia. I commend you for that. And since I am too lazy to go back to the suger cane farm, a note: For the pistons, if you just stop all the redstone up 1 block, it will fire them all without the need for repeaters. Also, you are so right. Redstone things, like clocks, look so complicated, but when I make my own, simpler things, its pretty easy.

I was trying to build a double-door with an RS NOR latch and the circuit kept getting pissed off and turned into a pulser so I gave up, but this video has given me the confidence to try again

the most complicated redstone circuit i made was an automatic arrow turret which when mobs stood on a pressure plate it would shoot arrows for around 5 seconds and reset

I get how the and gate works. the a and b torches have power that is sent to the next torch, and when one of them gets turned off (there is power leading to either the a or b torch) the other still sends power to the third torch. but when both the a and b torches are off, the third torch is able to turn on, giving power. Its pretty confusing at first but read it through a couple of times and look at a picture, and you will know what I'm saying.

Sorry, I don't think that's an AND gate. It's sort of like an inverted nor gate in that one of the sides has to be unpowered to give off a "Yes". It happens to work in this particular situation, but not in situations where you actually want an AND gate.

Don't pulsers burn out eventually? I've just been using repeater clocks, since they don't burn out and you can prime them for however fast/slow you want it to go.

great vid :) one small problem though, at 4:54 when u show the circuit diagram, that there is a AND gate, and when u make the circuit (you also say AND gate) at 5:19, that there is a NAND gate :D

Wouldn't it be simpler to run red stone from the pulser directly to a lever and wire the piston to a a red stone block that isnt recieving power?

I think you made a NAND gate, not an AND gate at the end, because you put redstone at the output instead of a torch.

I built a pulser by accident, and it only had 1 redstone torch which eventually got washed out by water and now i dont know how it was set up, any ideas? I had a multi level step type setup with pistons to push you down the hill. I used the delay function on the repeaters and somehow it worked for a little while lol. any ideas?

I did what you did and it works but when i turn off the switch the pistons stop on the open postiosion and that stops me from making a sugercane farm as you did can anyone help please!??!?

Actually a good explanation only thing i didnt know was how to make the red lines xD but looking ad the And gate its all based on electronic switches. not saying im a great electronics fanboy but i think it will actually be doable to make some stuf.
