Thank you for this. Will try it out. I have been rendering at more than 1hr 15mins for 30 mins videos.

Good luck! I had noticed long after making the video that while the rendering seemed stable it'd sometimes affect the final output. So make sure you watch the video or at least skip through it to be sure the render is solid. I loved KDEnlive. It was a really solid piece of software with the limiting factor being the render capability. I don't use it anymore, but I still recommend it.

Faster settings will give you reduced quality but much perhaps more importantly larger file sizes. Its a tradeoff that depends on the user, if you want fast encodes but can live with larger files then great. If the file is going to be downloaded over the network multiple times then the extra encoding time associated with a slower encode may offset the extra network bandwidth. So for KZbin for example smaller filesizes are important, for the home user maybe not so much.

There are a lot of downsides to this method such as error in the export. So you always want to check it. The feature is in beta last I checked. Not a bad way to speed things up but have to keep an eye on it.

On the render dialog just below the format box, I have found if you drop the quality down by one notch it speeds up the render time and there is very little loss of the final render. At least not on youtube. On the encoder speed, maxing it out will make your export file much larger, so default is the way to go. I haven't experimented by reducing it further to see what happens. I'm only a month into making videos, not an expert by any stretch.

Any research or knowledge into is good though. Opensource software thrives on the community helping each other, and relaying information to make the software work better!

@@MrAustinMusic I have noticed a bug in the windows version, when you click a video on the timeline and choose speed. The dialog box that opens won't let me enter a number directly, I have use the little arrows or my scroll wheel. I work around it by copying and pasting the number I want it to be. I tried the keypad and the numbers above the keys..no joy for either. If you have a contact with the group maybe you can make them aware.

Thanks for sharing this! I don't actually use Kdenlive anymore, but still follow the project heavily (I'm waiting for better 4k support and stable multi-core rendering). I'll submit it to them, although I used that feature I believe on a few different occasions and didn't run into the issue. I'm curious if an update caused the bug.

Good to know. Back when I first started using it in about 12 years ago I never quite learned. I don't use it anymore but still good to know. I always thought it would be KDE nlive because of the GUI KDE. Learn something new everyday! Thanks. Cheers.

What about distributed render using 2+ computers and modern networking hardware able to run starting from 1GBit al least between two nodes on any modern motherboard, and up to special hardware (used, from eBay) able to run at PCIe x16 speeds with RAM sharing? At least, more or less cheap dedicated disk storage can be fast enough to feed data and free processing for video render.
@MrAustinMusic4 жыл бұрын
That is always an option. However a render farm is much harder to setup.
