I made the decision that my next round of neuro pt I’m advocating for stable, controlled walking instead of speed. Speed makes me uncomfortable and makes my tone wayyyy harder to control

How to apply the understanding on habitual if stroke has impaired my basal ganglia?

I call it 'reflex spasticity' it's just the body/brains natural reaction 'fight or flight mechanism' however, when the brain is damaged there is 'no way' to control this. I'm great around the house but, as soon as I'm outside it's a completely different story. I still stick to my original gripe which is. Until the medical community/governments stop thinking about profit and greed and funding wars and put some real effort into learning how to repair our brains non of this will ever be resolved. My way of dealing with this issue when in a compromising/fearfull situation is. 1.STOP, 2. Deep breath, 3. Evaluate the situation, 4, Concentrate, 5. Start again. 6. Still too much, try later. However, if I'm subjected to a sudden change in situation, loud noise (even the toast popping up makes me spill my tea) I've no control. LEARN HOW TO FIX OUR BRAINS PLEASE. Or at least try. If you wanna make a profit come up with a drug that promotes neuron regeneration please.

I'm 100% with you that greed in the healthcare industry puts profits above people, at least in the United States. It's why I started Post Stroke. I appreciate you sharing what has worked for you! It's a good series of steps. But yes, unanticipated events or noises can definitely startle someone into having their spasticity flare up.

When I go to the movies or the barbershop my tone is the worse.
@PostStrokeOrg Жыл бұрын
Do you find that those places can be overstimulating?
@kicknowledgesmith8608 Жыл бұрын
@@PostStrokeOrg Not the movies but the barbershop for sure. The movie theater is dark, and I don't have to interact as much.

Do you have any movement? Are you currently in therapy? Are you able to stretch or weight bare on that arm? Don't ever give up. I'm working on my arm as well. I just hit year 1
@PostStrokeOrg Жыл бұрын
@mpampistsotsos3629 I think @kicknowledgesmith8608 has some great advice! If you can get into therapy to have someone evaluate your specific situation, that could be really helpful!

@@PostStrokeOrg Yes, thank you. I'm currently working with the motor control lab at my rehab center. They have me on a program tailored to my specific needs. My shoulder is very good, now they are working on elbow extension. They give me home assignments to focus on specific movements. I'm also currently in therapy. They are seeing my progress. I will never stop until I get to where I want to be. You're videos are awesome.,they are very helpful. have a great day

With all due respect you're coming at this from only a theoretical standpoint. It makes for a seemingly interesting video but it's not an actual survivor's reality. Thanks for trying though. God bless.
