Great video but lose the fake meat being involved in agriculture has helped me understand that cattle and grazing. Animals and ranchers are good stewards of the land.. Cows eat grass and turn it into high quality protein.. As long as you're not buying a cow from a feed lot that has had hormone injections behind the ear and antibiotics and spent the whole life eating grains. grass-fed certified Organic beef or from a local rancher.. You're in good shape good source of protein with a lot of vitamins. Stay off the processed foods and eat natural fruits and vegetables with your high quality proteins. Pre-diabetes is the cause of heart disease Additionally, the only true way to know what the condition of your heart is at your present level is to either have a catheter or Pay or request your doctor to do a c t angiogram with dye.. It's the only true way to know the condition of your heart and how much calcification .. None of these cardiologists want to perform the test. They want to perform every other test And then put you on a statin . But the only true evaluation is the c t angiogram with dye. Heart disease and all disease is a progression and if you start early You can protect your heart. Calcification starts in your twenties. Thank you for the great video a lot of good information.

They realize they have a 90% blockage. And they can't get a stent and then they have to have open art surgery... We die of 2 things today. Heart disease and cancer. If you can rule one out. By making the Effort with an reasonable cardiologist.. You can protect yourself. Calcification always continues especially on the american diet... All the foods are genetically modified multiple chemicals glyfosate.. The soils are depleted.. People spent their whole day preparing foods in years past now everything is processed and convenient and unhealthy... Thanks for a very informative video! I just had my first visit with a cardiologist for a rapid heartbeat episode and after Holter monitor, no issue there. But due to high cholesterol and CAC 51 six yrs ago, he wants further testing. He originally said an echo/stress then said a different test instead. I said “a CT angiogram?” And he was surprised that I knew what it was. When I said I also expected my new CAC score to be higher due to encapsulated soft plaque (on statin since first CAC in 2015) he looked shocked. He said he was very surprised that I knew that! Thanks for another interesting video. I think we will have to agree to disagree with regard to the veggie burgers. Herd animals have been used as food for hundreds of years by humans and thousands by other predator animals. What causes the environmental damage is the way in which they are raised in todays modern world. There was at one time many small animal farms spread out fairly equally over the landscape. Now because of financial interests most all of the small farms have been bought up by a few big farms. All life on earth is based on movement, anything that is left still stagnates and dies. If crops are not rotated every few years the soil dies as well. Mankind is painting himself into a corner with his desire for bigger profits (and yes I have a big paintbrush in my hand as well) Enjoy your videos! You have helped me a lot.
Enjoyed this video, also, the one you did 3 years prior. However, keto bread or no bread - the impossible burger will never be a possibility in our house. The cows that live behind and in front, and up and down the road, are a big part of our central Florida culture. If we want good beef, we know where to find grass fed and finished beef, as well as using the dung as environmentally friendly fertilizer. This really surprises me that you don’t look deeper into how the impossible burger is made and all its ingredients. IMhO, definitely not more environmental friendly.

Good educational video. Learned a lot and confirmed a lot of what I already know. My only disagreement would be on statins. My own bad experience with them aside, statistically they have proven to be relatively ineffective at stopping a cardiac event. Yes, they do reduce your cholesterol numbers, but as a pointed out to another doctor, is that really the goal? I would think the goal is to live longer. The statistical studies that the pharmaceutical companies release to doctors and the public to show the effectiveness of statins are gamed, in my opinion. In April of 2022 an independent aggregate statistical study was released on 20 years worth of statin research. That data showed that the use of statins to reduce cardiac events was actually statistically insignificant in absolute terms. Other research has confirmed these conclusions. Having said that, I do take a very, very small amount of atorvastatin to help with inflammation, not to lower cholesterol levels. As for preventing a cardiac event, I believe it is much more important to change one's lifestyle - i.e. proper nutrition and exercise.

Thank you. I did. They made a great case for farming ruminants.
@AmerijamAcres3 жыл бұрын
Geoff Lawton and Joel Salatin gets into this as well. It’s not the cow it’s the how! We absolutely need to use these animals properly if we want to fix the environment. It’s also important to understand how industrial agriculture causes more problems. Right now the largest source for CO2 is the farmers tilling the soil. That releases all the carbon from the ground. Properly managing ruminant animals will regenerate soils by keeping that carbon in the soil. Blaming the cow is just an excuse to stop people from eating meat. Also those meatless burgers are soy based. They are filled with estrogen and do much more damage than real meat to the body.

And there is the issue conventional farming of plant proteins kills scary vast numbers of small animals. Plant farming Without animals is NOT an animal loving/protecting behavior not is it ecologically sound. A decent permaculture/regenaryive setup uses animals in tandem with plants and produces everything--meat, grain, veg and fruits and nuts and tubers-far more pruductively and without harming the soil. It just takes a different mindset and some education. Thinking in terms of evolving systems instead of simple rote practices.

Studies on food products like the impossible burger etc show they’re healthier or less damaging with key markers but well designed independent large scale studies over many yrs still needed. Not totally disagreeing but always research sources of funding for talks incl Ted and YT channels. Both sides of any political or health issue are funded by powerful industry lobbyists incl dairy, beef etc. Mass farming esp stock yards damage the environment by taking away mass hectares of natural ecosystems. Like the mining behind green tech and needed for the energy transition. Physionic and Nutrition Made Simple plus York Cardiology are also good and objective. Love your videos Dr! I've watched and read lots of videos on this topic. Im curious, when people have recommended taking K2 MK7 or do other things to reduce the level of calcium in the blood and/or statins for cholesterol, isn't that like removing the materials necessary to stabilize the injuries to our vascular system? If those material act as band-aids to our injuries/soft plaques, then why would you want no bandaids available when you injure yourself? I know the ultimate goal is to address the underlying issues, but if I have stabilized plaques already, then why would I want to do something to remove that calcium and cholesterol. Isn't that like pulling the top off a scab and destabilizing what was once stabilized?

Watch Professor Subotin on episode 83 of Ivor Cummins KZbin channel for a very different analysis of the mechanism of plaque formation. He shows that the problem starts from the outside of the artery, via the arteriy’s own blood supply. Very interesting.....

Yes. An interesting theory. But given the epidemiology; if if correct, it has to get back to prediabetes.
@tomd7904 жыл бұрын
You might want to also consider some of the early research done by the NIH where they found plaque in arteries starting very early in life. They followed this as people went through teenage years on up and it got progessively larger. If I understood correctly Professor Subbotin also made a claim that plaque is found only in the carotid and heart arteries along with a few other major arteries. I find that hard to believe. One of the primary reasons for ED has been that the relatively small arteries feeding the penis have a build up of plaque. That couldn't be true under Subbotin's model. That is not to say that there might not be some truth to what he says. How to prove his hypothesis? The sure way is to try to find something that disproves his theory.

“Cardiovascular risk can be mostly attributed to modifiable risk factors. Very few persons meet the seven metrics of cardiovascular health: optimal lipid, blood pressure, and glucose levels; healthy diet; appropriate energy intake; physical activity; and avoidance of tobacco. Elevated cholesterol levels impart the highest risk for myocardial infarction (MI), followed by current smoking, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, abdominal obesity, no alcohol intake, inadequate exercise, and suboptimal consumption of fruits and vegetables. Elevations in serum cholesterol levels are associated with increased cardiovascular risk, and reductions in cholesterol levels can reduce overall risk. Thirteen percent of adults older than age 20 years, or 31 million persons, have total cholesterol levels greater than 240 mg/dL (6.22 mmol/L), and 6% of adults are estimated to have undiagnosed hypercholesterolemia. Elevated LDL cholesterol and low HDL cholesterol levels are also independently associated with increased risk for CVD. A 1% reduction in LDL cholesterol level decreases risk for CAD by 1%. Risk for CAD decreases 2% to 3% for every 1% increase in HDL cholesterol level; however, pharmacologic therapies that increase HDL cholesterol levels in patients with acceptable LDL cholesterol levels do not reduce cardiovascular events. Current cholesterol treatment guidelines are based on cardiovascular risk rather than absolute lipid levels. For primary prevention of cardiovascular events, the treatment goal is at least a 50% reduction in LDL cholesterol level in high-risk patients and a 30% to 50% reduction in moderate-risk patients.” MKSAP 18

I know this video is an older one but I just have to comment here. 3 years ago I began a strict Keto and OMAD lifestyle. I was way overweight and pre-diabetic. For a baseline, I had a CAC scan done and it was 670! Over the 3 years, I’ve lost 80 lbs and my blood work is now looking perfect. Here’s my frustration; I recently had another CAC scan done, to see how things were going, and it now is at 970! I’ve also been supplementing K2 and D3 daily for the past 3 years. None of the popular KZbin Keto Docs. seem to want to touch this one. You’re the first to talk about calcification increasing which answers some questions for me. Is there a way to reduce it at this point?

Dr. Brewer stripped the crown off the stress-test king a few videos back. Now Dr. Brewer has shown - to me at least - that the CAC king has few clothes, need to be interpreted by an expert like the Dr.B. In the life insurance industry, underwriters look at a CAC score at a simplistic way, and can deny you coverage instantly.

I definitely have heard of life insurance companies requiring blood tests for current lipid panels as an example along with BMI. It would not be viable for life insurance companies to give policies to people who are more likely to require a payout. When a person is offered an extended warranty on something expensive that they buy, many people go through Consumer Reports or some other way to gauge if the warranty is worth it or not.

The best explanation of calcium scores and soft plaque verses calcified plaque. It seems the mystery is finding out what is causing artery damage, especially when you have never smoked and blood tests show blood sugar at 100 or below. My question is can inflammation from loss of cartilage in knees or shoulders cause this arterial damage. I just recently had a calcium score o 2249. I am 81 yrs of age go to the gym 4 times a week mainly large muscle groups, I weigh 154 lbs have a balanced diet , supplement with protein , take a supplement of bergamot orange which I have done for 15 yrs. My GFR from my last blood urine was 40 , which I contribute to my life style . My creatinine levels have always been high dating back 40 yrs. Can a C reactive protein blood test give me a clue as to what is going on with my calcified plaque?

Interesting video Dr. Brewer! However, what I still have trouble understanding has to do with the HDL/LDL plaque idea. Unless there is an active transport mechanism in the intimal layer, then why would LDL enter the wall when it is a much larger molecule that HDL? Seems like the smaller molecule (HDL) would more easily be able to penetrate the lining of the intima. Unless the actual "density" of the molecules has something to do with it? Anyway, thanks for you videos..........
@PrevMedHealth4 жыл бұрын
I have the same question. It’s the small, dense LDLs that are the problem, not the larger LDL. But the small dense LDLs still aren’t as small or dense as any HDL particle.

Hi Doc, what is your take on plaque formation in someone suffering with psoriasis or an autoimmune disease? These patients are at increased risk of CAD due to underlying inflammation. So, controlling the inflammation is more important in these patients right? But, most of the treatment modalities for psoriasis or autoimmune disease include corticosteroids? How would that effect the coronary arteries? Not to mention that long term steroid use can put the heart at increased risk of cardiomyopathy. The question is whether there are any natural ways and lifestyle measures to control psoriasis or autoimmune diseases ?

Hi great video and very informative. A quick question for you and hope you can give me some advice. My mum has started getting pain in her left lower leg, it gets worse when she is moving around as you would suspect due to the muscle needing increased blood flow. She has seen the doctor and they seem to think it is a circulation issue. Well I had already suspected that it is due to poor circulation as she is always saying her hands and feet are cold. Also a couple of times she has come over dizzy as well, only for a few seconds but enough to make me think it could be all down to something more serious. She has been prescribed Aspirin and is now on Lipitor statins. She is not overweight and if anything underweight, she has been a light smoker all her life but is really trying to give up now. I don't think she is diabetic and she has a reasonably good balanced diet, but like everything could be better. We are waiting for a hospital appointment to see a vascular specialist but with the current situation this could take months. What are you thoughts suggestions. Regards Jonathan

I had adverse effects from several statins which developed over time (which made it hard to figure out, but eventually we did); then went on Zetia and had similar effects. Is there such a thing as having bad effects from "artificially" lowered cholesterol? i.e. the body needs it to certain level but the drugs are denying your body what it needs? If so, it would seem the right treatment may be to address the "need" for cholesterol in your body if there is a problem. Also on RYR, agree completely; I tried it and found same adverse effects, just trading a known quality controlled substance for an unregulated one. If a person does need to be a statin, I think RYR is actually the worst way to go because of this.
@wolflahti4123 жыл бұрын
Statins increase the number of liver receptors that cycle back the LDL. But they do not affect oxidized LDL (the genuinely "bad" LDL). Statins also block production of HMG-CoA Reductase, the end products of which are cholesterol and CoQ10. CoQ10 produces 95% of the energy used by the body, and its lack results in reduced energy production to the muscles, heart, liver, and brain. As you can imagine, this can causes a plethora of problems.
