This game as more characters than the Japanese versio like (frank west, ippatsuman, tekkaman blade, yatter-man 2, joe the condor, Zero)

Yup. They added 5 new playable characters (Ippatsuman was already in the Japanese version. It was Yatterman-2, Tekkaman Blade, Joe The Condor, Frank West & Zero), 5 new stages, more/new colors for the outfits of the characters, bios for all the characters, a new animated intro and theme song (thought he original Japanese intor and song can be unlocked), new mini games, and more gameplay balance to the North American version. Without question we received the definitive version of it.

To unlock the characters, do I have to get six different arcade ending, or just have the characters on my team in arcade mode?

You just have to get 3 endings for a specific side just for a specific character in that side and do it again but with 6.
