@@TeuluTribe The US operated the canal until 1977 in return for building it, really finishing the work started by France. Then from 1977-1999 the US jointly operated it with Panama. Hi Guys, Oat milk is super easy to make and bulk oats keep really well especially if you repackage them into vacuum sealed bags of a convenient size. The only tricky bit is you need a few ice cubes to keep it cold while blending it. I don't recall if you have a freezer on board. Or a blender for that matter... In any case, thank you for sharing your adventures with us! It brings back memories of sailing the great barrier reef and chartering a 43 foot cat in Martinique. You can put lettuce in ziplock bags in the fridge. They keep fresh much longer. Herein Costa Rica i used to buy 3.8L jugs of milk, but they kept going off days before the marked sell by date so i switched to powdered milk (slightly more expensive as its full cream), but it tastes just as good as fresh and lasts much longer. As you say, you need a good whisk to make sure it has no lumps but its great.

At that latitude, coming from London-Amsterdam-Berlin latitude, it struck me how in the morning, roughly at 6, sunrise felt like someone switched the light on and 12 hours later switched it off again. Peripheral speed is much higher there, relative to the sun. Also, at "home" latitude the middle line of the moon (easily visible at half moon) has a different angle to the horizon.

That rain storm; if you had got out a 3 metre by 2 metre (10 feet by 6 feet) of butyl or tarpaulin sheeting, in a 6mm rainfall (an it was probably greater than that, with just 6mm (¼-inch) if rain, you would have collected 36 litres (nearly 8 UK gallons or 9½ US gallons) of potable water. I do NOT recommend collecting it from and sails, unless really desperate, as they will be salt encrusted and this will taint the water. As you progress, on passage, to the west, you will find fewer and fewer places to get tap water and what IS available, might cost you dear or you might have to walk miles for it to the nearest town or village.
