Next time cutting aluminum try using a hacksaw. Less mess and cleaner cut. Buy a roll of Butyl tape for waterproof sealing cleats and everything. Butyl tape never dries out and is ready for use. Never cracks or dries out so it remains water tight. No mess to clean up after tightening the screws down.

Angle grinders are nasty beasts. 1) Using one unprotected WILL damage your hearing. 2) Using it without gloves will make you prone to white finger (Reynaud's syndrome) 3) the discs have a habit of disintegrating and will throw pieces at you that are sharp and/or red hot 4) Use the right disc for the job. There are ones for cutting and different for grinding and for sanding/polishing. Good job for getting it done and no blood shed.
@TeuluTribe Жыл бұрын
Good tips, we will take them on board and be careful to not use it often 😀
@steveww8590 Жыл бұрын
Watch out angle grinding on board - the tiny fragments are hot and can burn into the gelcoat and lodge there for ever. Thats especially bad if its steel you’re grinding (not that you will have much non-stainless steel on board) as all the tiny specs go rusty! Ask me how I know! Great vids though :-)

Couldn't tell from the video how the aluminum tubes to which the solar panels are attached are attached to the stainless. Because aluminium and stainless steel are different metals, an insulator or dielectric material placed between the two will reduce the dielectric effect. At the very least an old inner tube can be cut into pieces fit between the aluminum tubes and the davit stainless steel will reduce or eliminate corrosion. Keep up the great work! ✌️❤️🚀🤠

A quick tip, when you need a shim for in between two tubes, you can use a cut up pop can to get a long thin strip of metal. I’ve used this several times on bike seat posts, and it would be a better, more permanent solution than tape.

Oh man! I really felt that rivet gun nip. Been there, done that, also crawled around in circles for a minute or two entirely unable to yell the volley of curses that were exploding in my brain. 😂 Just a thought for the future; if you’ve got a stainless tube going in to a fitting and you’re riveting it, if it’s got any play it can tend to fret and it’ll get sloppier over time. If you rough up the bore and the male side with some abrasive or a file then glue it in with epoxy, riveting it before it cures, it makes for a much more solid fixture. If you ever need to take it apart again just drill the rivet out and heat the joint area up to release the epoxy bond. Hope that helps down the track, it’s a useful jointing technique on occasion. Nice job, the bim looks great and it’s going to transform life aboard for you. Cheers, R. 😎👍🍻

you know, if you cut a releaf angle off of the back side of those long through hulls, it will cause it to have a vacume while current moves past them, or cut the relef on the front side to cause them to have pressure when the current moves past them. its all a matter of preference and purpose.. but i dont know if that is the real reason they are so long. just an idea..

A regular hacksaw instead of the angle grinder perhaps. Note if you ever use a angle grinder to cut stainless, always use a new blade. A blade used previously with steel will cause stainless to rust where it has been cut. That though-hole fitting is confusing the only thing I can think of is if someone wanted to push a pipe over the fitting. It is a large diameter for sure. Bolts have a smooth shank before the thread, screws are threaded all the way up - just saying 🙂. That bimini looks a bit shady to me 🙂 A vice, the most useful tool ever 🙂 Screwing Stainless to Aluminium this is the stuff - Tef gel / PTFE thread sealant / lubricant 20cc 1oz Syringe plus brush.

Hey guys great video! Just a warning for anyone watching this about cutting aluminium with a grinder, it can clog up and cause the blade to fracture big bang! Great to see a woman working an angle grinder and show actual ~engineering insights. As the alumin(i)um (Al) is soft, it will not be too difficult, but the rotational direction of the disc can help you or work against you. That's the understanding "we" need to develop. As to the metal file, its teeth have a direction/orientation. They will cut into the Al in one way and "sweeten" it in the other. Always use the file in the cutting way and it will stay sharp longer. So push lift pull back, set down and push again. If you want to "sweeten" edges, use a finer file the same way. Or fine sanding paper.

The purpose is to spread out the stress of the bolts in the deck that is applied by the forces of the sails being held by the winch. They don’t make a “good” rivet gun, just less bad. I think Zach learned the dangers of that one the hard way. I cringed when I saw Becca holding the piece that Zach was riveting, worried that she might be its next victim. Magnitudes safer than that one you have, but still not without hazards.
