at this point, the best way that James can show his loyalty and appreciation to the Club is by taking a massive pay cut. If I'm not mistaken, he is one of the few players still on the former Chelsea pay structure. Reece James is a good player, the problem is he is always injured. Since the start of the 2022-23 season, he has only started 25% of Chelsea’s matches… that is simply not enough to put him in a category of great or amazing. I feel really bad for him as a young man and as a Chelsea player, if he had a healthy season, he could go down as a Chelsea Great, but for now, he is on the level of ‘good’, not great.

James has missed over 120 games throughout his career at Chelsea. That is horrible, and I feel bad for him, but Chelsea aren't an infirmary, so his role needs to be reduced to a smaller role or we move him on.

RJ will learn to adapt to his body signals post surgery. Each player is unique. There will be a variety of setbacks. He has not played much in over a year. Gusto if healthy will slot in comfortably. Furthering his development in the inverted role and finishing. With no Gallagher or Chilwell and Fernández not regularly in the first team, captain and vice captain onfield/dressing room leaders continue to be problematic. Fortunately, Chelsea can afford to safely withdraw and gradually return him to the first team when suitable. Too good and too important a player for club and country.

He is no doubt our best defender and player but we can progress as a team everytime we have to reintegrate a player into the team. I might get hate but its time to cut our losses and sell him. We let so many academy products go, latest being Gallagher, and know we just have to stand by Reece as a club and fan base. He's a special case at the club. What does it say about us if we just want to toss him too? Fully acknowledge his injury issues. He is worth so much more at the club for intangible reasons. He and his sister. You can't pretend that marketing angle is not huge to the club.
