Listened this on Spotify instead on here. But Reed is A+. Insane how his co-authored book wasn’t even mentioned. Highly recommend the book to all.

As a season pass holder at Pow Mow who does not live in area lots of interesting stuff here. I love new lifts coming on board, but the on mountain facilities are limited and I think amenities may influence the long term finances and real estate. If the resort is not crowded and the owners have express lift access anyway, then why make part of the mountain private? 2 of the 3 restricted lifts are hardly used anyway, so not convinced about that aspect. I also don’t think Epic and Ikon caused an increase in the skier population on its own. Its just gotten more popular in general, and ski vacations for a family are expensive regardless of ticket prices. Ikon are and Epic has definitely changed some skier behavior, but mostly its caused everybody to pay up front, like the subscription service Reed is talking about. Walk up prices were way cheaper before the passes. And Powder Mountain benefits from those high walk up rates because thats what they charge on day passes. So Pow Mow is economically free riding on pricing structure of Epic and Ikon.

Great guest. What I most appreciate is how he seems like a real human being; sad that this mode is so rare these days. Compare this guy with any one of our corporate overlords (Musk, Dimon, Dalio, Bezos, Zuck or whichever finance spokesperson you see, they come off as Vulcan's in comparison with this guy; he seems more like a Buffet or Soros, someone just doing their best in business or the markets and strangely, somehow, avoiding the worst aspects of the corrupting tendency of wealth and power). Perhaps what's most remarkable about this guy is he doesn't need to run the biggest thing, grow forever, or take it Mars, he says he's as happy running his ski resort as he was growing Netflix; he also repeatedly mentions long term friendships/relationships through his career and speaks to the importance of liking and valuing the people he works with. That's some pretty advanced stuff in our dark times.
