Lovely shots from a nice variety of angles. Interesting to see this opening and closing.

Thanks Hayden. Shame this didn't operate when you came down so you could see it for yourself. I was glad it was operating this time given I wiped my footage of it operating last time I went!

Having been over and under the bridge many times, I am surprised few people are aware of it's use. I guess a bit like Tower Bridge, very seldom are you in the right place at the right time. If you do this again, and your camera is capable, try zooming in on the track end, and you may just see the bridge being lowered. This is done to secure the line and allow the locks to be engaged. I know it is only an inch or so, but just imagine the weight the hydraulics have to raise and lower the whole structure. there is another bridgd exactly the same at Somerleyton not far down the line on your way to Lowestoft.

Very good video Chris. I have been thinking of videoing the twin lift bridges at Seaway St-Lambert.in operation.

Thanks Ian. On a regular day it is opened twice.

Quite often it would seem, given that it opened 3 times while I was there. Thanks Richard.

very good interesting to see the bridge in operation and good that there is plenty of demand so no risk of it seizing up for lack of use

I think you'll find that this is not Peto's bridge, that one was a cast iron single track bridge and that was demolished when the present day structure was built in 1904. This was required due to the doubling of the line. The first bridge was to the left of the present structure and the single line ran through the centre span of the overbridge. When it was doubled, they slewed the line to become the DN line over the bridge, while the UP line had to have the side portal dug out and a retaining wall built. Oh, and take it from me it swings a lot more than twice a day! Last year it swung close to 1600 times and most of those are in the summer months. not uncommon to have 10-12 swings a day in high summer! Well done in capturing it on the move. Looks different on the outside!

Yes Mark that's right. Still it wasn't a wasted trip as I got a few shots of the bridge in operation.
