Scuba diving more than 1000 times from the coral reefs and underwater pinnacles of Thailand's Similan Islands, Phuket, Phi Phi Island and Hin Daeng, to Myanmar's Mergui Archipelago and Burma Banks, I encountered everything from manta rays to seahorses, whale sharks to shipwrecks. @@ericastier1646 I'm not sure that bankers have quite as close ties with the human race destroying animals habitats and just plain driving them to the brink of extinction, but you're right about humans devastating effects on the world and the animal kingdom in general. When I was a young kid I watched a lot of nature documentaries. I especially loved the filming done by Jaques Cousteau and his crew on the Calypso. The general theme throughout all of the films was positive and showed the thriving different animal communities and their habitats. But that is completely gone now. It really breaks my heart to watch today's documentaries because the theme has changed to the population is dropping in almost every single species on the planet. In the rainforest they are saying that there are species that are going extinct before we even learn of their existence, every single day. The climate is changing everywhere and when we start to look for the causes, it links directly to us! And one last rant. It's ironic that what sets us apart from the animals is that we have the ability to reason, animals do not. Yet they have never destroyed the habitat that they live in. We can think about our actions and how they will affect our future and yet we still choose to destroy the only earth that we have faster than ever before. Why?

I loved the footage of the whale shark! Many years ago, a friend had a spiritual experience with a whale shark: she was guest on a shrimping boat owned by a family member. A whale shark swam up beside the shrimp boat, seeming curious. The shark was HUGE, longer than the boat. My friend was so taken by the nearness of the shark and leaned over for a better look. The shark rolled slightly to see her better. The made eye contact, just a couple of feet apart. My friend said it was like making eye contact w another intelligent being. She said time seemed to stand still and she got goosebumps! Glowing Bio-luminescent algae on the shark's skin made it seem even more mystical. She told me that was very touched by this experience.

Ex-merhant marine and most sailors can entertain you for days on what they have seen at sea. I had a personal experience like your friend but this was a great white and as I was standing by the fish plate looking at nothing particularly. When looking down along side the ship was the biggest shark I had ever seen and it had turned on its side looking up at me. You won't believe this but it's black eye was as big as a 20" tire.

I've never uttered, "WOW" so often in any wildlife documentary. If you don't watch this 2-hour underwater video you are going to miss out! TOTAL WOW. My absolute favorite is Jonathan Bird's Blue World because of the human intervention and human reaction with all the alien life beneath the waves. But I think I shall have to send this video/documentary to Jonathan and his team as an FYI. Mind-boggling that we fear aliens from outer space when we have every single type of lifeform living within the same specifications all of us adhere to right here on this planet. I remember watching documentaries like these on TV. What great nostalgia! I really enjoy watching the shows that talk about the fauna of an area and not just one specific species; although those (especially Amazon documentaries) aree good too. I subscribed man! I absolutely love this and your other long video. They helped me through a terrible illness last year. I kept them looping during the night when I was unable to sleep well because of the pain. No matter what point I woke up, I was interested enough to pay attention to the video and they helped me focus away from how I felt enough that i could relax even after watching multiple times. I grew up on the coast and marine life fascinates me. I love how you tell the proper names of everything and the photography is fantastic. The music? There's one that I'm not fond of but for the most part, I like it.

Im glad to see on the other comments tht u are better, but your right its great how they identify all the dif species n the camera work is great. I also liked tht they mentioned how divers at night can confuse all the fish, it seemed like they wanted to be sure not to bother them anymore than necessary.

This is the very best sea life documentary I've ever seen. I watch every sea life doc. I can find, this one was done so beautifully & perfectly, and covered more information about each sea creature than any other sea life doc. Also the photography is so well done, the colors are so vibrant & clear, best I've ever seen. I absolutely love the location chosen, it is pristine, most gorgeous reefs, just perfect. Masterfully made! I think the only thing that could have made this better would've been David Attenborough lol. The music is amazing and eccentric, yet perfectly suited for the documentary. One of the greatest nature films I have ever watched (and I've been watching them since I was a small child)!

I attended a seminar which the speaker was speaking of working with Corals, the underwater environment. I was really interested in this field. I am a senior citizen now & seriously I need to go on a dive! Oh and I know am a Docent in a Science Academy best time of my week!

Thank you! I enjoyed this documentary immensely! 2 things I'd like to mention: Sometimes the current on the bottom of the reef looks like it's the wind blowing through the coral and the plants and the wildlife.. Some of the most beautiful marine creatures are the deadliest creatures.

Marine life looks nothing like this anymore this is all internet if you went to see what it look like it would hurt your feelings. Global warming has destroyed those beautiful reefs and now they're dying their bleached there's barely anything for the sharks to eat because the fish can't hide so they cannot multiply. What's in the next 30 years they'll probably be no marine life at all if we don't do something now to fix it

It is. But have you noticed how even good documentaries never spend more than a few seconds on one species? If you stare at animals they can be quite boring in the long run, unless you are really patient. So docus switch constantly. I like the idea of marine biology, and nature studies in general. But the reality of it can involve a lot of waiting around for something to happen. I'm patient with certain things, but waiting hours, days or weeks for wild animals to do things it might be interesting to film or photograph is not one of them. That's why I like documentaries about it more than the real thing really. It saves time. So, so much time.
