Okay, I'm nowhere near setting up a reef aquarium, yet. However, the way you presented this upload gave me more insight. Great product demo.

That skimmer looks very nice to the eye. Nice you ended with up with 1.5 gallons of more water. That's a benefit. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comment bro. Adding more water volume to any system is always a good thing, especially for a nano reef.

Beast of a skimmer! I really like the size of the collection cup. I wish all skimmers were adjusted using the airline, my eshopps psk75 is sometimes a pain to dial in and has to be very accurate otherwise it doesn't skim enough or a complete wet skim and the collection cup can't handle that!

Thanks bud. Yeah, the collection cup is massive. My only complaint is the noise. Hopefully it will quite down after it breaks in. I haven't forgot about your shout out. It will be in the next video of the 25. I appreciate the comment.

I'm currently battling noise on my system. The reactor I have online is driving us up the wall. The tank is located right by our couches. I have solved the problem somewhat, but I am working on a better solution. Next I need to decide whether to buy an entirely new MP10QD or just upgrade my drive to QD. I bought the pump used, so I am leaning towards a full replacement. Always battling something!

I had this skimmer about a week and I think it does great, I'm already emptying dirty protein out of my cup a lot. However, I constantly have water pouring through that little overflow hole into the return side. It doesn't seem to be affecting my skim, but something tells me it shouldn't be doing that normally. Any Ideas?

Interesting how the skimmer pump changed the whole dynamic of your fluctuating compartment... Ur sump is jam packed. Nice review.. Don't know if u addressed it or not.. But what precautions did they build in or you taking if the skimmer overflows? That's #1 reason I've never used the hob.. Im sure the trade off for additional volume and function were deciding factors...

Thanks for the comment CJ. The collection cup is massive, and I have it set to pull a dry skim. That's not to say that an accidental overflow couldn't occur. It would be easy to tap the collection cup and thread in an elbow with a line running back into the filtration chambers. The return chamber of the skimmer relies on gravity rather than a syphon. As an extra precaution an emergency overflow could be installed. I went with an HOB, because I couldn't get an "in sump" skimmer to fit that was rated high enough. The Tunze 9004 wouldn't fit as well as the other brands that I looked at. I'll keep you guys posted if there are any mishaps. I know the back is packed, but all the equipment is essential to keep the tank running at its best. 👍🏻

I almost forgot to mention that nobody has noticed the reactor configuration on the inside. I figured you'd be the one to spot the modification. Let me know if you can figure out what I did.

+cyberaquarist yea tapped the top inch of the cup with a elbow back into the tank would be a great idea... Polyfilter pads can make a skimmer go nuts if they aren't rinsed ... I have noticed that with mine at least. I missed the modification it's hard to see... Looks like u made it into some kind of bio pellet reactor .. Maybe that's the need for additional skimmer functionality? I'm getting ready to make a vid on comparing all in ones vs sumps.. Getting my thoughts together on it now... The reason your having to go with a hang on will def be part of the conversation.. Keep an eye out

+CJ'S AQUARIUMS I used a straw cut to length to hold down the top two sponges compressing the Phosguard. That way I can crank up the flow to max on the reactor. I can use the recommended amount of Phosguard which only takes up about 1/3 of the reactor and prevent any tumbling of the media. You know I'm a Pond Matrix kind of guy over bio pellets. LOL The poly filter pads that I mention in my vid are just Eshopps WD300 pads cut down to size. Nothing more than mechanical filtration. I'll definitely be on the lookout for your video. I try not to miss a single episode. I've been filming the second video of Reefing Fundamentals today. Something happens in the video that I'm sure you'll get a kick out off.

+cyberaquarist aha! I seen the red tube but I didn't see the media... Makes sense now. I keep forgetting I purchased the smaller size by mistake. So I pack it phosguard/sponge/thin layer carbon/sponge... They only thing I hate is the sponge filtering the flow getting clogged way before my media is ready to be changed... Wondering if u have the same prob?

Hi Cyber! Very cool setup, looks very clean. What do you run in your media reactor? Biopellets, GFO??
@cyberaquarist8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shane! I run Seachem's Phosguard for PO4 control. It's the only form of PO4 media that I've ever used on this tank. I appreciate the comment.

does your ato keep your sump area at a constant level? BTW I have been using this skimmer on my 120g mixed reef with excellent results
@cyberaquarist8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment William. Yes, my JBJ ATO keeps the water level very consistent. The water level in the chamber that the float switch is in fluctuates about one inch at the most.

Ok then this skimmer should perform well it is incredible that this hob can keep my 120g mixed reef so clean get a very dark thick skimate

How is this skimmer working out for you?
@cyberaquarist8 жыл бұрын
HR PUFFINSTUFF The HOB 1000 is awesome. It produces a very dark skim mate, and I can go a couple weeks before having to clean the collection cup. It never sends micro bubbles into the display when using the return bubble guard. NO3 started to creep up towards 2 mg/L after running this tank for over two years, but the level has dropped back to undetectable once I started using this skimmer. It has never malfunctioned once, and it is extremely quite. I would go with this skimmer again in a heart beat.
