I want to thank you for doing this video. You did a great job talking about the benefits, and cons regarding a Planted Tank. I just picked this used Marineland Emperor PF 280B at one of the local Fish Club Meetings. It also had 2 each of the Filtration Media in the same box. I cleaned it up and it works great. I had a Salt Water Tank back in 1980 until 2005 when I moved, but it was a Marineland Penguin with 2 Bio-Wheels in it. From the other customers that frequent that store, the customers talked me into getting the Marineland Penguin dual Bio-]Wheel. So, I do agree with your statement above about the Bio-wheel in a Salt Water Tank. Again, thanks for a great review. Well done. This is my first time here.

Honestly, I believe that the lifespan of Amano shrimps is seriously underestimated in the hobby. I bought just two times Amano shrimps on my life, when I was 15 and then again when I was 22 because I just had 3 left from my first purchase. Well, I am 30 and many of my shrimps are still alive. It just seems weird that in the hobby they say that they last between 2-3 years

I guess it’s possible. Aquarium inhabitants like this we still have lots to learn about. We don’t know for absolute sure how long they live in wild if not preyed upon. And usually tank life is why many aquarium species last 2-3 years. It’s not usually near as good stable water quality as wild habitat. I don’t find it impossible it’s that old I do find the not growing thing weird. I had a amano live 5-6 years. Only died due to a move had to move houses moved tank and she was old and a couple weeks after move I think stress was too much for her. But she was freakish big. Like 3+ inches easy not kidding a monster. Looked more like a fan shrimp or vampire shrimp just not a buff as vamps get. She was massive. Everything in tank was scared of her😂. I say scared because she was also a bit aggressive and yeah they can get pretty aggressive. She would steal live food away from fish and other shrimp. Steal a blood worm right out their mouth! Chase them down! Maybe she was so big be she LOVED meat. Would go crazy for blood worms, snatch brine right out the water column whenever I would feed fish. I have a 2-/2 inch one in my nano 15g tank right now. Probably about 2 years old. Also a beast that loved meat. Really they would eat most anything but if they get used to live food they go nutty for it. Turn into predators. The two largest oldest Amanos I have had like swim crazy all over like all happy when the live food gets dropped in. I will video it next time and post it . But yeah that’s the weird part to me is the size. My old gal was a massive beast. Freakish. Folks who knew shrimp would trip out when they came over my house because at first glance thought thought it was a massive filter feeder shrimp.

@cyberaquarist Appreciate you sharing your review and love that feeding ring you constructed! I am looking for a feeder that would dispense floating flakes and sinking shrimp pellets together at the same dispense. Would this one work for that purpose or any recommendations? thx!

My screw jacks came from Home Depot(looks exactly the same). The directions on the box said "If the Jack is supporting a wood floor at the top to install the larger diameter post on the top and the smaller diameter pipe with the adjusting screw at the bottom." They didn't explain why. FYI. Great video!

Hey! Thanks for the vid! How long is the longest youve left home with this on? Ill need to travel for about 5-6 weeks and a sitter isnt an option, but im concerned about my dry pellets becoming spoilt as i live in a humid city+ the tank moisture. A friend should drop in once for a quick water change but that's about it so I'm trying to find a reliable product

Hi, I bought maxspect R420r. Just quick asking, it can't be completely turned off automatically, isn't it? I tried to set the program for example at 9pm A 0% B 0% but it is still on with only blue light only about 3% overnight. Did I do wrong? Thanks

I bought two Amano about eight years ago and recently got interested in lifespan as I still had one that kept on going. The crazy thing is I bought two, ended up with three (?) and now have just one (i think, another could be hiding though). I also bought 12 "wild" neon tetras, maybe 9-10 left who are now at last 5 years old. I have 40 ltr tank but a huge Eheim 3 filer in cabinet below. I use Easy Life Filter Medium for the water, nothing else special (my water is very hard) . Ive been pretty hands off over the years, just tidying and water changes etc . I think the oversized filter has had a huge positive impact and the water treatment I have used has also helped I think. I bought two siamese algae eaters same time and one still going strong , Recently Ive not been as on it as I should be but am back on top of things now. Also had lots of success with small shrimps but only with cheaper ones which then interbred. Anything I paid big bucks for didnt last long. Bottom line, if a guy says he's got a ten year old shrimp then that's what he has an he will be as surprised as I am.

I've been trying to get out of the fish keeping hobby for a few years lmao, I bought 2 amano shrimp 5 years ago, the male managed to get inside the filter about 3 years ago and met an ill fate, but the female is five+ years old now and the only thing I have left. Moved her and some plants into a small 2.5 gallon. Kinda sad but I'm not in a position to keep fish anymore. Maybe they live longer if they don't mate or molt offten?

7 years ago was about when I got my amano along with a couple White Cloud Mountain minnows. The minnows are gone, but the shrimp is still going at it. Weird how the expected lifespan is so short when so many live so long

I think my amano is also that old. We moved into this house in 2013 and I set up my tank soon after. I got a betta, a dwarf pleco, a few amanos, and a nerite. All the first occupants are gone. First year, an amano jumped out and I couldn’t find him until months after, dried up under the couch. Another one decided to jump out last year. The last one survived a few tank disasters and outbreaks, and is still going strong. I wake up every day expecting a dead shrimp but dude is still eating and molting like nothing can affect him. To my surprise, I didn’t get him from a fancy lfs but from a big box pet store. 😂
