My tanks been going through a high nutrient spike. My sand bed I think is the culprit so I've been doing extra water changes and just trying to vacuum the sand out. Also ordered a bunch of snails. I do feed a lot but it's usually not an issue, I think when I ran out of tdo pellets the food I started using contributed to the spike. I have like 16 fish in a 100g and I feed like 3 frozen cubes daily along with 2 types of pellet foods. Trying to do smaller meals now as well..

Hi Nick, I guess it depends on what you believe high nutrients to be? That being said, If you want to reduce nutrients on the quicker side, you have to do large water changes of 50% a few days apart. As well as vacuuming your sand bed. With a 100G, it’s a bit of a pain in the ass. For what it’s worth, you are feeding a lot for 16 fish. Cutting back is a good idea, and it. won’t effect the health of your fish. 👍🏻😊

@TOMReefer yea a couple days ago I'd say 80+ on nitrate lol. I've done 2 water changes and today it's gotten down to about 50. It's improving but yikes

Hi PopHoudejr, I’m using 2 Ai prime Sol. 1 Ai prime 16HD and 3 Kessil A80. I used these because I had them from other tanks and various other reasons. I explain in my series of making and setting up the 75. 👍🏻

Hi AI, thanks! *Polyps will do that. mine have gone months at times and not opened. Investigate your parameters , your phosphate, level and nitrate and calcium in Alkalinity. And PH! See if something is really off. Also don’t touch them during this Dormant phase 👍🏻

I am also curious! I just started dosing Phyto to my tank about 6 weeks ago. I add 3mL every other day to my 45ish gallon tank. My corals seem to be a lot bigger and the polyp extension is nuts! I am loving how it adds to the biodiversity in my tank as well.

Hi Brandon, I’ve experimented with making my own and dosed for a short time. I’ve heard positive things about dosing phyto. Just watch your nitrate phosphate levels while dosing. Great to hear you see a difference in your zoas.👍🏻😊

If the sand grows algae and dino, can it be siphoned?

Hi Ryu, you can siphon it, but it grows back. Diatoms can be starved out or by other competing algae or organisms. This is the cycle of diatoms. Or they can be eaten by using hermit crabs and various snails 👍🏻

@@TOMReefer I have put hermit 1 and turbo snail 2 in my 20 gal aquarium. is that enough? I've also reduced the duration of my light to 8 hours. and I don't have a nitrate and phosphate test kit. thank you for answering it

During this diatom stage you need 1 hermit snail per gallon at least. This will speed the process up. Reducing the duration of the light really doesn’t help. The tank has to go through this phase

Marine tanks would be much more stable and healthier with a 4inch deep sand bed. KZbinr Father Fish channel explains it really well.
