@@michaelherndon1444 how isn’t it simple because he is using higher end equipment? You can do the same with lower end equipment that doesn’t cost as much. It’s a simple setup only thing that is more advanced would be the calc reactor.

So sorry to hear about Jake's sudden passing :( Jake was a friend of mine that my store hosted along with Bob Fenner, James W. Fatherree, and a couple other speakers, back quite a few years ago. I'm known as Kevinpo in the reefing world. Jake wrote very kind words about tiny Aquatic Dreams in Spokane Valley WA. He also made a beautiful video of one of my tanks. He contacted me just a couple years ago for an article about the Green Bali Slimer coral I had, wanting to know the lineage. Unfortunately I had it for so many years I couldn't give him a definitive answer. My late condolences to Jake's family. Best regards, Kevin Pockell

Jake, two things. I know you see this tank all the time, but in my 27 years of Reefing, this is some of the nicest looking SPS, LPS, and Softies I've seen. Absolutely stunning tank. Second, the Radion Gen 4 was the perfect light. I've seen countless tanks using these and they all look great. I would use those over the Gen 5 and 6 any day. Thanks for all the content, never gets old.

I have a standard 55 gallon tank setup as a peninsula... talk about tight space... 5 plus years. My 1st tank. 20 gallon homemade sump and refugium. Started with the cheapest equipment possible on Amazon a d have been slowly replacing over the years as necessary. Just stepped up from cheap black box lights to ai primes...huge difference. Built a little control board. Want a controller...and a real peninsula aquarium or cube next. Always loved peninsula style tanks. Mine serves as kind of a half wall between rooms. Definitely nicer to look at from one side but eventually I'll fill it all out. It does allow you to buy alot of coral. My biggest mistake was not making my rock work more custom. I have a hanging garden style scape going on with just 3 big rocks touching the sand bed and everything else is elevated. Wish those rocks had holes for swim throughs as the ones i have arent always enough flow wise and i just plopped the 3 biggest rocks carrib sea sent me without any thought of breaking them, making a flat base, drilling holes or just buying the lifeshape rock they sell that does all that. Its a mixed reef. Mostly lps at this point. During the pandemic i lost a ton of acros and haven't got around to or had the heart/cash/stomach to replace them all. Nice zoa and euphillia gardens. Working on some gonis too. Its expensive and time consuming but i enjoy trying to keep these fragile creatures that are only found in the most exotic warm water reefs in the world thriving in a box of water in my apartment.

What do think is the most beneficial length of time for lights to be on in a mixed reef. My acropora are still mostly frags . I run the raidon gen 5 blues two xr15s over a 3ft red sea tank . I run my lights 8 hours at 75% with ab plus program. No modifications to the program. No peaks of white or intense blues. Just a ramp up and a flat straight line on the mobius app then a ramp down. Should I change that? Rest in peace jake. I'm going to miss watching your videos. Your memory will be kept alive though all of us in the hobby for as long as people keep fish and corals in aquariums . "FOREVER "

Hi, first time viewing from England uk. I wanted to ask why you did not use any coral sand on the bottom of this particular tank? I always assumed you needed it for the base of marine tanks? But it really made me think differently about marine setup, and I'm going to be a new subscriber so able to view other setups. Excellent video.

I'm new with reef, as I know we have to have media in order to grow beneficial bacteria to reduce NH4/NO2/NO3/PO4 but where are those? how can you guys keep those value so perfectly with minimal of devices? I'm so impressed.
@ReefBuildersVideo2 жыл бұрын
No you don't have to have biomedia to grow bacteria unless you have a fish aquarium that you feed heavily, all the surfaces and the live rock are more than enough for a reef aquarium

Tank is looking 🔥 other than the fin erosion. Corals look amazing! Glad you addressed the fin erosion on the tangs. That is one of the reasons I came out to Reefstock. I have a yellow that looks like absolute hell. Your tangs look 10 times better than mine. Sure would be nice to find out what actually causes this! How to prevent it and hopefully how to reverse it one day. It sucks as the yellow tang is one of my favorite fish in the trade.

What is the toadstool on the right hand side down at the bottom? Would be nice to spend more time showing the corals individually, comparatively to much time on equipment basics. Discussing a bit more about them. Size started, size now (how long since placed, how fast they grow). Why locations chosen, relationships to what’s around them, what other corals, interactions. All that being said, this is a spectacular mixed reef tank. What media being used?
