I was 8 yrs old in 1955, and lived at 3780 Monterey, off Dexter. I remember the drug store with a soda fountain on Dexter. Went to Durfee Jr. High, Cass Tech and graduated from Wayne State Univ. I have many fond memories of Detroit and shopping at J.L. Hudson's, hanging out at the Historical Museum and the Art Institute, and buying fried shrimp at a local Shrimp Shack on the week-ends.

This was the era of my mother and father in the their 20 something young Romance era, they both Relocated from 2 different Southern States, they met in Detroit, During the mid 50,s. They looked good too, classic Americana at its peak.

They went to Edgewater park and the state fair in Detroit Mi.

And drove Michigan Ave in from Wayne, then stopped off at University of Michigan, then back to the Alpine motel in Inkster (it's still there). After the waterfront I think that's the brand-new I-94 from Southfield heading east. Bet I rode that same Tilt-a-Whirl in the 70's.

Thanks for sharing ! Gosh Darn, I remember our family summer vacation’s. Dad always had a 8mm movie camera, my mother had all the movies and slides transferred to VHS many year’s ago. I then had 5 copies made on DVD for my brothers a few year’s back.

Has anyone noticed how clean the sides of roadway's are.... That's when people wouldn't throw trash on the ground or out the window.... Thank you for sharing.... Very enjoyable

Coleman Young’s corruption destroyed Detroit. My grandparents came to Detroit in the 30’s and told me about what Detroit was like back in the day. It was a nice place.

In fact, Coleman Young was NOT Detroit's worst mayor - but the as the White Flight hit, budgets had to be slashed to pay for services. This post is being typed with A White finger.

@@vickiegrant3325 It wasn't even Kwame. It was the flight, period. You can't pay the infrastructure cost on a city built for 2 million with only 600,000 people.

The Alpine Motel in Inkster still has the same sign. Nice footage of the Super Constellation! 5:33 Veterans Memorial Building. Still in use. 7:54 Ford Rotunda. Removed from a World's Fair. In 1962, Workers doing repairs accidently burned it to the ground, lasted less than half an hour. The latter half of this film appears shaky, chances are that the film was loose on the supply spindle.

Great memories of the way things were...women in cotton dresses, men with white shirts, pants, many with ties. Generally, people in shape instead of 100 pounds overweight, or more. A bygone era...#MAGA.
