I just bought this mower. I noticed the manual on this mower says max of .75 inches. (Greenskeeper 25 inch with Honda engine) However, when loosing the bolts and start turning the mico height adjusting bolt. I realized those micro height adjusting bolts can make the mower cut more than it. In fact, I set up the height to .75 using a level and tape measure and it increased to .85 after retightening all the loosened bolts. When I took it out to do a trial patch in my backyard, the clutch belt would become loose and disconnect from the pulley. I tried 3 times, putting the belt back on and would come right off. So I guess my question is the clutch tension changed when going higher on the mower cut and should I not put this mower about .75? Seems like even though manual says it goes to .75 that the micro height adjusters allow the mower to cut a lot taller that that. A response would be huge, as I watch all your videos and bought this particular mower because I love your passion for this mower. You do great work. Thanks again.

Beautiful lawn, but how do not have any weeds? I can't get rid of weeds, crabgrass is a real problem too, plus I have bermuda but other kinds of "good grass" in other spots, I'd like it to all be bermuda, would you suggest i completely kill everything in those spots and plant the bermuda, or can i overseed and hope the bermuda will take over. thanks for any suggestions

Doc, my yard is about as hard as concrete because we haven’t had rain in 2 weeks. Plus our city has implemented a water restriction so we can only water 2 days a week. What are thoughts on doing a liquid aeration to loosen up the soil so when I do water it soaks in instead of running down the street.

Do cycle watering. Ten minutes per station then come back for another 10.

Doc as much as I love the pro reel mowers I would love for you to look at some of the push mowers if they are doable for 3-5k sqft. Also look into something like the Gardena Accu Rechargeable Cylinder Lawnmower 380 Li. This comes in at about half the cost of the start of the top tier big ones you got (~$500 USD), and are found on amazon. Have a good weekend doc! :)

Doc...what do you think about products like Hydretain to help with drought like conditions? I'm following your calendar and putting down PGF, Humichar, FUNGICIDES, And Insecticides, but I'm still getting a browning.
@HowTowithDoc4 жыл бұрын
WATER... is about the only thing that will cure it. And yes... it's not cheap. My lawn only has one browning area and it's due to lack of water. You can try hydros... but test them on a strip vs non treated. I think you'll find that they don't help enough to cure severe rain shortages.

Great vid Doc. I have one question, how much lbs per 1000 ft of chicken feed do you put on the lawn. With a 4 lbs per 1000 ft of biochar.? Thank you for spreading the knowledge. I moved to north Georgia From Ca. Was growing fescue in Ca, now here is all Bermuda. Using your vids I am dominating the "mean green" in my neighborhood.

I put 100 lbs down on about 10,000 sq feet last time. So.... 5-10 lbs per 1000

Is there any specific reason you cut your grass so short besides preference? I think I've heard you say you cut the back at half an inch before. I personally prefer Bermuda grass at 1.5 inches during normal conditions and 2 inches during drought.
@HowTowithDoc4 жыл бұрын
1/2 to 1.5 is the correct height. Just prefer shorter as it's easier to maintain and looks better.

@@HowTowithDoc I'm currently at 2" in North Texas. I have a Toro rotary, Fiskars manual reel and just picked up a new/used McLane 25" 10 blade that needs some TLC. What is the best way to get down to 1"? Use rotary to take the inch off? Problem is, my yard definitely has some bumps and ruts (first lawn leveling has been done though) and expect I will experience scalping. So, do I just deal with the scalping and at least it will be at 1" to maintain going forward? Great videos, great guide! Keep up the great advice for those of us with GrassOCD!
@mikeyoung9304 жыл бұрын
I REALLY want a reel mower, HOWEVER....My concern is, will it leave scalp marks? my lawn is relatively flat, but bumpy. ..... Cutting at about 1 3/4" with a rotary mower now ...any lower and it leaves ugly swirl marks when the wheel hit the 'dips'...... I really want to get below 1" but not sure I can without doing a leveling project.
@HowTowithDoc4 жыл бұрын
Both Barb's and the WW lawns are so bumpy that you head hurts when riding a Deere. With the slower Mclanes there are never issues when cutting about 1"

@Dylan-gt6xc4 жыл бұрын
@@HowTowithDoc Okay. So, If I had existing grass and now have some newbie sprouts from my recent seeding, do I need to wait for the newbies to be stronger? Or is it okay to mow at a higher setting and mulch the grass? People tend to say no to cutting until a few weeks. I dont see the logic if my blade is set for 1.5 inches or so to just help maintain the lawn. That shouldnt affect the new seed right?
