Julius Erving Era of Excellence was a 20 minute VHS promo tape given out to Philadelphia 76ers fans in 1987. Shared for historical purposes. I do not own the rights.
------
Julius Winfield Erving II (born February 22, 1950), commonly known by the nickname Dr. J, is an American retired basketball player. Regarded as one of the greatest and most influential basketball players of all time, Erving helped legitimize the American Basketball Association (ABA)[1] and was the best-known player in that league when it merged into the National Basketball Association (NBA) after the 1975-76 season.
Erving won three championships, four Most Valuable Player Awards, and three scoring titles with the ABA's Virginia Squires and New York Nets (now the NBA's Brooklyn Nets) and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers. During his 16 seasons as a player none of his teams ever missed the postseason. He is the eighth-highest scorer in ABA/NBA history with 30,026 points (NBA and ABA combined). He was well known for slam dunking from the free throw line in slam dunk contests and was the only player voted Most Valuable Player in both the ABA and the NBA. The basketball slang of being posterized was first coined to describe his moves.
Erving was inducted in 1993 into the Basketball Hall of Fame and was also named to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time team. In 1994, Erving was named by Sports Illustrated as one of the 40 most important athletes of all time. In 2004, he was inducted into the Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame. - Wikipedia

Great tribute about a guy who influenced every basketball player from 1974 and up. Definitely myself. Cats underestimate Doc's ability in his prime, since we've witness Jordan and James, but a 1976-79 Doctor J would've command dominance if he was on the floor with those 2 players.

Happy Birthday to my basketball hero "Dr. J" Julius Erving! I'm 52 yrs old and he's been my favorite basketball player since I was 7yrs old. I actually got a spanking when I was 7 because I put my hands on my little hips & said to my mom.... "I'm gonna marry him when I grow up!"😂 My mom politely got the belt & married my butt with it for being fass!!!😂😂 Without Dr J there would be no Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Derrick Rose, Charles Barkley, etc. Thank you Dr. J for being a hero to myself & so many black Americans all over the world. God bless you!

Doc carried the ABA into the NBA, then saved the NBA until Magic and Larry could take over. But, after all of that, he still had some gas left and won an NBA championship (thanks, Mo!). Love ya, Doc.

Dr j didn't win a title alone, so he shouldn't be trying to get full credit of winning a ring alone. He was dependant on Cheeks, Malone, Jones and many other players. This shows you what kind of selfish player he was, when today he's talking about others doing just the same.
