I turned 19 in the year of Puff and the warnings of the Vietnam War were surfacing. I went to that war and was disabled and retired from wounds five years later. I was in college athletics and two years later was at Kansas University on a track scholarship. In the meantime, the '64 rights bill was signed into law. In '68 both ML King and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated. Student antiwar marches were well underway by the end of the '60s. I'm now 80. It was one hell of a decade. Thanks for remembering some of the good music of that period.

Yes 1964... a wonderful time to be alive! 1964: Three civil rights workers murdered in Mississippi during "Freedom Summer;" Race riots in Harlem and many other U.S. cities; U.S. military forces launched attacks on North Vietnam in response to an "alleged" attack on a U.S. destroyer off the Vietnamese coast (turned out to be an LBJ lie); Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa was convicted of fraud, conspiracy and jury tampering; 1964 was indeed a pivotal year in American history... the beginning of the end of the end of the "American Dream."

I didn't have the photographic memory skills like my brothers, I was smart enough to know I was not so smart. At the age of 16, I made up my smallest mind to leave my home island just like floating on the Pacific Ocean for Tokyo having Roppongi. I skipped night high school English class and went to a British pub at the Roppongi-crossing to sing English songs. I suffered from lack of time, but I had some money to hold records including this song,
