Fun fact. This movie is often shown in law schools because, among all the movies and TV shows set in courtrooms, it gets it the most correct. Devin from Legal Eagle did a breakdown of it. It's shockingly well done.

One of my favorite things about the movie is that there really was no conspiracy, no ill will in the case. Everyone was honestly trying for the outcome they considered right, and the initial misunderstanding was an honest one. The judge was a stickler, but he's supposed to be, and he came around and congratulated Vinny in the end.

I loved MArisa Tomai's character's transformation when she was on the stand and she, finally, realized where Vinny was going with his questions. She went from Mad to excited in one moment. And I think that part of it was not , just, that she was helping, but that Vinny put so much trust into her and her ability to figure out the critical evidence in her picture.
@Oleoay
@Oleoay Жыл бұрын
The other thing is that Vinny was also a mechanic, so he also understood the meaning of the tire tracks i.e. it was a Pontiac Tempest and not a Buick Skylark. That's why he told the sheriff sitting in the gallery to put in the search for the Skylark. But as a lawyer, he can't testify himself for legal reasons (you can't be an advocate and a witness/expert in your own case) along that it would be considered a biased witness so it would be less convincing to the jury. That's why he has his fiancee testify because he knows she'll come to the same conclusion he did.

@@d3vp131 I grew up in Brooklyn and Long Island. My father grew up in Little Italy, NYC. He could not properly pronounce anything with a t-h at the beginning or end of a word. Like Vinny, he would say "yoots" instead of "youths", "teet" instead of "teeth" and "toot" instead of "tooth". Words that began with t-h like "those" would become "dose". It drove my mother crazy trying to get him to pronounce these words.

What I love about this is that there's no real bad guys in this movie. Everyone is just a person doing their job, the judge is doing his job, the prosecution - everyone is a good guy within their job-description (apart from the court appointed lawyer) and the only bad thing you can say abotu them is that they were wrong and didn#t look for alternative murderers. This is just a feel-good movie to me. It's funny and cute and smart and it ends well and nobody was a terrible person. I love this :-)

Great Reaction ya’ll. I think what the prosecution really had was a confession from both of them, “I shot the clerk” and “I knew he did it, I just waited in the car.”

Never heard of Joe Pesci referred to as the home alone guy. Lol! Most people refer to him as the mob guy, Goodfellas guy, or casino guy. It's nice watching you guys discover these classics and see your natural reactions to plot lines because you guys know nothing about the movie. It's probably more fun for you as well. I love going blind into a movie, especially if it's a good movie. Keep up the good work

This is one of my favorite movies ever. My friends and I, most of us NYers of some sort of Italian descent, quote it all the time. As some have said, Marisa Tomei won an Oscar for this movie. In the 90’s, the joke was that they read the wrong card and that she didn’t deserve the award. I’m glad that time has been kind to her performance. She’s magnetic in this movie and deserved the nod from the academy.

We love this movie! When you’re from NY you really get the way they talked, dressed, argued and the accent is overdone but great! Marisa Tomei and Joe Pesci were so great! Don’t worry us New Yorkers don’t understand too many people from the south! LOL!

This is another one of my most favorite movies EVER!! I saw that a lot of lawyers actually watch it and rate it very high on authenticity of legal proceedings! When the judge goes through to vet Vinnie, all of that is actual procedure. It's such a good movie. I've probably seen it 2 dozen times. I watch it every time I come across it. Y'all are the absolute BEST!! Please never stop making these videos.

One thing I really appreciate about this movie is that the prosecution lawyer, while certainly adversarial to Vinny as an opponent, wasn't a jerk or had it in for Vinny in such a way that would have made him feel like a one-dimensional villain. He was actually fine with hanging out with Vinny and spending time with him and getting to know him; just two guys.

FYI, despite being a comedy and while there are some liberties taken, they actually show this film in law school, because it's one of the most realistic depictions of the trial process and a perfect example of how to question witnesses on the stand.

My husband was a litigation paralegal for some years. The prosecutor moved to dismiss all charges because he knew he was going to lose with that information. A lot of court attorneys do eventually run for some public office, and think about what it would look like if he sent two innocent kids to prison or even to the chair. The movie is very, very accurate where it comes to criminal courtroom procedure. Now Vinny has to get himself a good paralegal to talk to witnesses and take depos.

BJ, the Judge was played by Fred Gwynne, who played Herman Munster on, "The Munsters." And, funny you should mention Frankie Valli in reference to Joe Pesci because Joe Pesci was childhood friends with Frankie Valli, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Massi of Frank Valli & the Four Seasons - and he introduced the three of them to the fourth member, Bob Gaudio.

Mitchell Whitfield who played Stan also played Barry who was Rachel's ex in Friends. Bruce McGill plays the sheriff. He played D-Day on Animal House and was in Matchstick Men and Cinderella Man among other things. The man who played the public defender was in Short Circuit. The man who played the witness with the 5 minute, magic grits was in War Games and The Mask of Zoro. Almost forgot, the automotive expert also played Mr. Nimziki, Secretary of Defense in Independence Day.

The judge (Fred Gwynne) was in Pet Sematary, and starred on Car 54, Where Are You? and The Munsters. I loved Marisa Tomei in Oscar (1991) and as Aunt May in the last 3 Spider-Man films. She also co-starred in The Wrestler (2008). Ralph Macchio now stars on Netflix in Cobra Kai as The Karate Kid 25 years later. The guy who claimed he could make grits too fast was Kevin Costner's commanding officer in Dances with Wolves. I loved the public defender (Austin Pendleton) in What's Up, Doc? (1972). This film is shown to law students as a great example of courtroom and trial procedure.

I haven't sat through this movie in quite some time, but when I saw it in the theater back in '92, me and my girlfriend at the time almost choked we were laughing so hard! If you guys want to see a straight up dramatic courtroom drama, and one of the best movies of all time, you must see 12 ANGRY MEN (1957) starring one of the greats, Henry Fonda, and eleven of the greatest supporting actors who ever lived! The actor playing the judge, Fred Gwynne was one of the main characters - in very heavy make-up/costume - in the 1960's TV sit-com, "The Munsters" (along with its spin-off movies such as "Munster Go Home"); & prior to this, in the 1950's he starred in the TV sit-com, "Car 54 Where Are You." I believe that "My Cousin Vinny" was his last acting job as he passed away shortly thereafter.

It is SO funny that you said Vinny looked like he should be sitting next to Frankie Valli in his red suit, because Joe Pesci is friends with Frankie Valli in real life. He actually helped found the band The Four Seasons. The movie Jersey Boys goes into the details of the whole thing. It's dramatized, but it's still fairly accurate
